Buffalo's new stadium - will Super Bowl be played in it?
billsfan1959 replied to WotAGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are only three things that I want to see: (1) New, stable ownership that keeps the team in Buffalo, (2) a new stadium for the fans of this team, and (3) a return to playoff caliber football. I could care less if Buffalo is ever considered for a Super Bowl. My guess is that, in the long run, a Super Bowl would end up costing the city money that could be better spent elsewhere - for the people who actually live and work there. Economics is not my area of expertise. So, I may be wrong in that respect - and always willing to listen to any sound arguments to the contrary. -
Golisano to bid on Bills & propose new WS staduim

Interesting topic and I truly do not know where I stand on the issue of legalizing marijuana. I am a retired FBI Agent and work for myself consulting primarily on murder (real crime) trials. However, during the middle part of my career, I ran drug task forces for a number of years. Admittedly, I didn't deal with the casual users of marijuana. I dealt with organizations trafficking in cocaine and, later on, meth. I did deal with some Mexican Cartels trafficking in marijuana; however, the drugs were secondary to the murders, kidnappings, etc., that are always part of these organizations. I did interact with street level drug users purely from an intelligence gathering perspective. I provide this background only to offer a foundation for the following responses. After working in the drug world for 11 years in the above capacity, to me, marijuana compared to powder cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin, meth, PCP, etc., is like comparing apples to oranges. I have no moral opposition to the legalization of marijuana. I do not subscribe to the "slippery-slope" theory in terms of the subsequent legalization of other drugs. I also look at the idea of marijuana being a "gateway" drug much as I do with the idea that violence on television and in video games leads to violence in children and young adults: Generally speaking, research shows it is not true; however, for specific individuals it is true. I am a big believer in personal responsibility. I am also a big believer in looking at things realistically. The reality is this: (1) The vast majority of people use alcohol in a responsible manner and they would probably do so with marijuana. (2) Marijuana is much like cigarette and alcohol use in regard to physical harm. The casual user is probably not going to suffer major problems. Habitual use can cause severe health problems just as habitual use of cigarettes and alcohol. (3) For a minority of people, marijuana can be psychologically addicting. In the end, most of the reasons I hear to not legalize marijuana are pretty specious - but I am still trying to decide where I stand. As a side bar in response to a couple of posts I read: I never arrested anyone, nor do I know of any other law enforcement officer arresting anyone, so that the prisons in this country could profit.

There is nobody, you included, that has any idea how this will turn out. Everyone has an opinion and that is all they are at this point: Opinions. You are welcome to your opinion and to lay out the reasons you arrived at your conclusion. However, to think you and the other "few intelligent posters" "need" to explain anything to the rest of us, and that we somehow lack the insight and intellect to grasp it - just because we might disagree - is nothing more than arrogance

What could they have done in the draft
billsfan1959 replied to Luxy312's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And we would have had to trade up for Evans as well. If we were going to trade up for a receiver, I would choose Watkins over Evans. Whether or not we should have traded up at all is a pointless argument at this time. We will know in a year or two... -

Bills Roster Talent NOT COUNTING QB
billsfan1959 replied to Doug Flutie Band's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love how a thread assessing roster talent that specifically says, in capital letters, "NOT COUNTING QB," still manages to be a thread about assessing the talent (or lack thereof) of the QB... -
That would be interesting; however, I wonder how intellectually honest they would be. I read an article by Kiper a couple days ago where he went back and assessed the grades he gave to all teams after the 2013 draft. I know you will find this hard to believe, but he felt he was pretty much spot on with almost every grade...

The unbridled optimism and enthusiasm of your posts during this draft have been so refreshing... Thanks so much -
WR Stevie Johnson traded to San Francisco 49ers
billsfan1959 replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We can debate Stevie's level of ability as a receiver. We can debate his contributions on the field in general and in the clutch. We can debate the impact of his off field antics. Which ever side of the fence you fall on regarding these issues and others - or whether or not you even like him - he played hard and he played through injuries. Most importantly (to me at least), he loved this town and loved this team. For that alone, it shouldn't be that difficult to set aside whatever opinions you may have of him, show a little class as a Buffalo fan, thank him, and wish him well. Good luck to you Stevie. Thank you and I sincerely wish you the best -
RD1, Pick #4: WR Sammy Watkins - Clemson

Nice to see your posts are consistent with your avatar... Therapy might be a worthwhile investment -
I pretty much stand behind what I wrote with no corrections needed, thank you. You are cetainly welcome to your opinion. However, my opinion is that Russell Wilson, while talented, was not the difference between Seattle getting to and winning the superbowl - and not getting there and and not winning it.
-
Seattle's pass blocking was the worst in the NFL last year; however, their run blocking (after adjustments) graded out 9th in the NFL and they were 4th in rushing yards. The real difference here is that they had a defense that gave up just over 270 yards a game (1st), 14 points a game (1st), were 1st in interceptions, were 4th in forced fumbles, 3rd in first downs allowed, 8th in opponents 3rd down conversions. Russell Wilson certainly made plays with his feet and his arm behind a pourous offensive line when he had to drop back to pass - but he also had some pretty bad plays and games, as all young quarterbacks do. I think he has talent, but he has not had to carry that team in any way in his first two years in the league. Let me see where he is at in five years - and particularly when he has to carry an average team.
-
Do you mean "Who is the next quarterback with above average skills that will end up on a team with a monster defense?"
-
My heart hurts today and my thoughts and prayers go out to the Wilson family. Some of my fondest memories revolve around the Bills: From the first game I attended in 1968 with my father, through many games watched with close friends and family, to taking my son to his first game - and seeing him develop and carry that same passion for the Bills into adulthood. May you rest in peace Mr. Wilson. I will always be grateful to you. You were the one who made those memories possible.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion; however, It's never really a good idea to speak for everyone else...as if it is a foregone conclusion that everyone else agrees with you.

Sammy Watkins, worth trading up for? What cost?
billsfan1959 replied to MClem06's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believe the Bills have a lot of talent on the team and finally are in a position where they also have some decent depth as well. This is a deep draft with the opportunity to add a number of quality players. IMHO, this is not the time to give up draft picks - if anything, it is the time to move back and acquire more picks wherever possible and reasonable. This might possibly be the most important draft for this team in quite some time. We were still just a 6 - 10 team last year; however, there were a lot of good signs if you evaluated things realistically, objectively, and within context. If Whaley & company do well in this draft, then we could have the core of a very strong team for the forseeable future. I am willing to believe this FO is different than what we have experienced for most of the last fifteen years, and I like what they have done so far. However, for me, this draft will go a long way in telling me whether that belief is warranted or not. -

Revis a Patriot / Bucs cut Revis

I could care less that they signed Revis. The only person on the Pats that concerns me is Brady.
