  1. 2012: In 3 WR sets - 101 carries for 6.9 YPC; Less than 3 WR sets - 60 carries for 5.5 YPC (62% of his carries in 3 WR sets) 2013: In 3 WR sets - 63 carries for 5.3 YPC; Less than 3 WR sets - 128 carries for 5.5 YPC (32% of his carries in 3 WR sets) 2014: In 3 WR sets - 36 carries for 6.4 YPC; Less than 3 WR sets - 36 carries for 1.4 YPC (50% of his carries in 3 WR sets) Interestingly, running up the middle this year was the weakest part of the Bills running game (particularly in 2 TE sets), which is not surprising, given the play of the guards. Spiller averaged less than 2 YPC running up the middle and about 5 YPC outside the guards, yet, 30% of his runs were up the middle in 2 TE sets. Another interesting point, Spiller's YPC up the middle drastically improves in spread formations and was the case in 2012. 2013, and 2014. In fact, Spiller ran up the middle in almost 40% (82 carries) of the plays in 2012. However, most of that was out of 3 WR sets and he averaged 6.5 YPC - the highest average in the NFL up the middle in 2012.
  2. It doesn't matter if Ryan went through 100 offensive coordinators in the past, any discussion of them in regard to the Bills in 2015. Is irrelevant. None of them are going to be the offensive coordinator for the Bills, Greg Roman is. His success over the last four years is pretty well documented and he is generally regarded as a very good OC. The overall record for his team last year was 8-8; however, he still had some good offensive numbers. So, if you want to talk about Roman, then it would be relevant. BTW, if you want to point out what his team's record was last year, why don't you try to be a little objective and mention his team was in the NFC championship game in each of his previous three years?
  3. I don't have a problem at all with Rex as HC and having his hands all over the D. As for Rex being as clueless as Doug regarding the offense, I would probably agree with you there. The difference as I see it is that I believe Rex understands his limitations on the offensive side of the ball, as opposed to Doug, who thought he was a much better offensive mind than he is. Rex has been known for allowing his coaches to coach (and I don't believe that was the case for Doug on the offensive side of the ball), he just didn't hire good offensive coordinators. I do believe that Greg Roman is a good offensive coordinator and I don't know if his hire was a "collective" decision or solely Ryan's - but I think it is a much better hire than his previous offensive coordinators. So, for me, the real question is how good will Roman be as an OC with the Bills. I think Rex will let him coach. If Roman does well, this team will be much better. I think what I like about a Ryan/Roman combination is the sense that the bills, collectively, have the potential establish an identity similar to what we have come to see with the Ravens and the Steelers over the years: Tough, physical football on both sides of the ball. I hope anyway Go Bills!
  4. I don't think I have ever read a post of yours where you were not giving a "big thumbs down" to the Bills about something...
  5. I didn't know they were the Offensive Coordinators for the Bills in 2015... Because that would be the only way a conversation about them would be relevant to the Bills in 2015
  6. Actually, Urbick graded out well at RG in 2011, 2012, and 2013. So, what does Marrone do? He doesn't play him for half the year and, when he does, he plays him at LG, where he graded out much worse. Why? Because he is playing Pears at RG instead of RT where he at least had graded out as adequate in 2011, 2012, and 2013.
  7. 11 INTS and 7 Fumbles in 9 games in Philly, which would project out to 20 INTs and 12 Fumbles for 16 games. 20 INTs would have been the most and 12 Fumbles would have been the second most by a QB in the NFL this year. He also would have been projected to throw 25 TDs for 16 games which isn't bad; however, not enough to offset 20 INTs and 12 Fumbles (close to his average of 17 INTs and 14 Fumbles in each of his previous 4 seasons). IMO, that is not competent QB play.
  8. Bortles' first 14 games: 58.5 completion %, 11 TDs, 17 INTs, 69.5 QB Rating EJ's first 14 games: 58.6 Completion %, 16 TDs, 12 INTS, 78.5 QB Rating I wouldn't say 10x greater...
  9. IMO, his limitations as a pocket passer are worse than EJ's. No for me.
  10. Roman's rushing offenses finished in the top 8 (3 in the top 5) each of his four years in SF. We need to improve the O line and running game first. Then I would like to see what Roman can do with EJ and whoever else is on the roster this spring. I look at what he did with Alex Smith, who, IMO, is the kind of QB that fits a team with a strong defense and strong running game: 2009 (Before Roman) 11 games, completed 60 % of his passes, with 18 TDs, 12 INTs, and 81.5 Rating 2010 (Before Roman) 11 games, completed 59 % of his passes, with 14 TDs, 10 INTs, and 82.1 Rating 2011 (With Roman) 18 games, completed 61% of his passes, with 22 TDs, 5 INTs, and 92.1 Rating 2012 (With Roman) 9 games, completed 70% of his passes, with 13 TDs, 5 INTs, and 100.4 Rating Then Harbaugh decided to stay with Kaepernick after Smith was injured 2012 62% of his passes, with 14 TDs, 5 INTs, and a 99 Rating 2013 58% of his passes, with 24 TDs, 11 INTs, and a 88.7 Rating 2014 61% of his passes, with 19 TDs, 10 INTs, and a 86.4 Rating Now, Kaepernick might be the most athletic QB in the NFL; however, IMO, he has serious flaws as a pocket passer I think Roman did all right with developing young QBs. If any QBs for Buffalo, in a four year period, completed over 60% of their passes for 92 TDs, 36 INTs, and over a 90 Rating, we would be ecstatic...
  11. I posted this in another thread in response to a poster who said Roman has done very little in developing QBs. I thought it appropriate to this thread: Roman's rushing offenses finished in the top 8 (3 in the top 5) each of his four years in SF. We need to improve the O line and running game first. Then I would like to see what Roman can do with EJ and whoever else is on the roster this spring. 13. I like Chan Gailey. I do not think he was a good head coach; however, I do believe he is a good offensive coordinator. He also is a decent man whose heart was genuinely here while he was coaching. I like for good things to happen to good people and I wish him well if that is what he wants to do.
  14. One could hardly call the offense he played in with the Jets "wide open," particularly his first few seasons. Maybe this year with Philly. It doesn't seem to matter what style of offense he plays in, he consistently turns the ball over. Again, if it happens in a wide open style where the QB is putting up a lot of points, I could live with it - but that isn't Sanchez.
  15. Top ten in both fumbles and interceptions every full season he has played. He played only 9 games this year and, had he continued on the same pace, would have finished in the top ten again in both interceptions and fumbles. I could live with it if he offset it with 30-40 TDs; however, he averaged 17 TDs for each of his four full seasons. No thanks.
  16. My problem with Sanchez is that he is a turnover machine. He played 4 full seasons from 2009-2012. He finished in the top ten in interceptions and fumbles in all 4 seasons. For those seasons, he averaged 17 interceptions and 11 fumbles. I could live with that if he was putting up 30-40 TDs per year. Unfortunately, he only averaged 17 TDs during those seasons. He did that as the ultimate game manager in an offense under Rex Ryan that could not have been more conservative. This year in Philly, he played 9 games and had 11 interceptions, 7 fumbles, and 14 TDs. That put him on pace for 20 interceptions, 13 fumbles, and 25 TDs for a full season. No thanks
  17. Well, in truth, about the only way a running back could get out of the backfield in Marrone's offense would be to shoot his way out....
  18. I agree that there is a greater chance that CJ returns if it looks like the Bills are putting together a good offensive coaching staff, particularly an OC or HC that has a history of putting together strong run games and/or maximizing the talents of skill players. I do not believe CJ should be the feature back in an offense; however, he is still a guy that can give you those one or two big plays a game if utilized properly. If he decides to leave, you can bet the teams you mentioned, as well as a few others would love the chance to have him on their teams. Is it really all that surprising to people that when you run a back, with the skill set of CJ, between the tackles, in 2 TE sets, behind an offensive line that graded out as the worst run blocking unit in the NFL, over, and over, and over - that he would continually have 1 yard runs?
  19. No need to be sarcastic or condescending. I was only expressing my opinion, worth no more or less than anyone else's. At this point, neither one of us has any idea what it would require to obtain Glennon in a trade - and I never advocated giving up "major goods." I think that Tampa Bay will probably draft Winston or Mariotta, keep McCown, and Glennon "might" be available in a trade for a "reasonable" price. If that were the case then I wouldn't mind making the trade. In other words, if, by some chance, he would be available in a trade that would be reasonable for the Bills, I wouldn't be opposed. Again, just my humble opinion. Nothing to go hitting your head against a wall over...
  20. I have said this in many other threads: I believe EJ Manuel performed as well as "most" QBs do in their first 14 games - and on a par with other QBs we could reasonably acquire this off season through free agency or trade. He severely regressed this year; however, I will not reach any conclusions about him until I see what he can do under a competent offensive coaching staff and behind a competent O line. As for other QBs. I have broken down the game logs of QBs the Bills could potentially acquire to compete with EJ. IMHO, Mike Glennon has performed the best in his opportunities and has as high a ceiling as any of them. I certainly would not mind at all if Whaley found a way to trade for him to compete with EJ.
  21. Let's look at the last 7 games of the year. Beckham is targeted 94 times with Eli Manning as his QB, while Watkins is targeted 50 times with Orton - who, quite honestly, had severe accuracy issues over the last half of the season. My guess is that, if they traded circumstances, the results might have been reversed. However, comparing the circumstances of these two this year is like comparing apples to rocks...
