  1. Apparently, Freddy didn't get the word that this is a myth and taboo around here
  2. Really not necessary and just poor taste.
  3. I won't disagree with you there. He is about the only QB available who can, more often than not, give you top 10 QB caliber performances.
  4. Agreed. I do not see the opportunity for the Bills to have a top QB in the near future. So, while they are trying to find one or develop one, keep building the defense, while overhauling the offensive line and building a strong running game.
  5. My point was, of course having a franchise QB, or even a good QB, gives you better odds for success; however, for all those people clamoring for the Bills to get one (or complaining about not having found one already) - which franchise QB should they get or should have already gotten? Anyone can state a problem. Offer a solution.
  6. I always love this talk about running out and getting a "franchise" QB - as if you can just pick one up anywhere. Below is a chart of the 2014 QBs (with the year they were drafted) that finished in the top 12 in QBR, Yards, and/or Touchdowns There are a total of 15 QBS that were in the top 12 in one or more of those three categories. Of those 15, only 4 were drafted after 2008, and only three in the last five years: Andrew Luck (in top 12 in all three categories), Russell Wilson (12th in QBR), and Ryan Tannehil (11th in YDS). Of the QBS that placed in the top 10 in all three categories, NONE were drafted after 2005. Everyone wants a franchise QB; however, they really do not come along all that often. And there are a lot of people blaming the front office for not getting a top QB. So, over the last 5 years, which top QB would you have liked for them to get? This list contains 15 starting QBS out of 32. These are ALL of the above average QBs in the NFL - and only 3 of them were available. They were not going to get Luck. So, that leaves Wilson, who 1) nobody really saw his potential and 2) has not had to carry a team yet - so, the jury is still out; or Tannehill. Of the other QBs that have been drafted over the last five years - they all have question marks and there are no sure bets. So, until the Bills find one, they better concentrate on a top defense and a top running game...
  7. A few comparison stats of QBs discussed in this thread:
  8. I wonder how this will affect any chances for offensive line coach Mike Solari to come here?
  9. They hadn't played in Pettine's defense before he got here and there seemed to be a pretty smooth transition. They hadn't played in Schwartz' defense before he got here and there seemed to be a pretty smooth transition. I don't think there will be a difficult transition to Ryan's defense...
  10. In 1972, I wrote a paper for a history class about why I thought the we should withdraw our troops from Vietnam...then we did
  11. Kaep under Roman: 2012 62% of his passes, with 14 TDs, 5 INTs, and a 99 Rating 2013 58% of his passes, with 24 TDs, 11 INTs, and a 88.7 Rating 2014 61% of his passes, with 19 TDs, 10 INTs, and a 86.4 Rating IMHO, Kaep may be the best athlete at QB in the NFL; however, he has as many issues as EJ, if not more, as a pocket passer
  12. Think Alex Smith under Greg Roman: 2009 (Before Roman) 11 games, completed 60 % of his passes, with 18 TDs, 12 INTs, and 81.5 Rating 2010 (Before Roman) 11 games, completed 59 % of his passes, with 14 TDs, 10 INTs, and 82.1 Rating 2011 (With Roman) 18 games, completed 61% of his passes, with 22 TDs, 5 INTs, and 92.1 Rating 2012 (With Roman) 9 games, completed 70% of his passes, with 13 TDs, 5 INTs, and 100.4 Rating
  13. I don't care what comes out of a press conference because what matters are the results on the field. With that said, Ryan is what he is and I have no concerns with the defensive side of the ball. The most important thing to me was always going to be who he hired as OC. Ryan is a guy that has a reputation for letting his coaches coach - but has not had a good track record with OCs. I like Roman and I don't need a press conference to know what he brings. I just want to see it on the field this upcoming year. I think Ryan and Roman together have the potential to create an identity for this team similar to what we have come to see with the Ravens and Steelers: Tough, physical football on both sides of the ball.
  14. I have to be honest and say I really have no idea about the level of talent on the roster. What I do know is this: 1) The offensive line was Doug Marrone's "area of specialty," where he spent the vast majority of his personal time during practice, and the one area I believe he was most responsible for. 2) Every veteran on the offensive line regressed under Marrone: Glenn, Wood, Urbik, Pears. In 2011 and 2012, Urbik had graded out positively at RG and, while regressing in 2013, he still graded out above average in the NFL at RG. In any event, Urbik graded out higher than any guard on the roster, so, in 2014, Marrone decides not to use him for half the year and then put him at LG, where he graded out worse. Pears was never great, but he was at least serviceable at RT in 2011 and 2012. He regressed at RT in 2013, but was still serviceable, so, in 2014, Marrone moved him to RG where Pears graded out as one of the worse in the NFL. The only lineman on the Bills that graded out worse than Pears, was Henderson, who Marrone replaced Pears with at RT. As an aside, Marrone wouldn't try Kouandjio out at guard forever because he said it was tough to move from the outside to the inside - yet, he thought it was a good idea to do it with Pears. 3) Every young player on the offensive line failed to develop under Marrone. Kouandjio and Richardson were both pretty highly rated and both, not only failed to develop, but looked completely lost. Even Henderson was considered a talent, but had character issues. He did play; however, in terms of grading per game, he never improved throughout the year and graded out as one of the worst RTs in the NFL. Maybe there is no real talent on the O line; however, when virtually every player on offense (not just the o line) regresses, fails to improve, or fails to develop, I have to wonder if maybe it is more about coaching than player ability. I will say, that I think one major problem on the player side was the lack of adequate talent at LG, which I blame management for not finding an adequate replacement for Levitre. Anyway, I truly don't know what level of talent we have on the O line. I suspect better than most think - but we need some better players at a couple of positions. I m looking forward to seeing what we do in free agency and the draft - and what a new coaching staff can do.
  15. IMO, Chan is a good hire for the Jets. I think he is a good offensive coordinator, but, beyond that, I respect who he is. Contrast the manner in which he said good bye to the Bills' players and fans with the manner in which Marrone left. He is a man whose heart was truly in this team and city while he was here. Debate all you want about his skills as a coach, and I know that results are the bottom line; however, for me, he is an easy guy to root for. I wish him well... ...but not his team
  16. My guess is Quinn ends up with the Falcons
  17. So, Let me get this straight: Harbaugh is a genius because he has a .38 winning percentage (3-5) against the Patriots with 2 playoff wins in Foxboro, while Ryan is a failure because he has a .31 winning percentage (4-9) against the Patriots with one playoff win in Foxboro?
  18. Agreed. In EJ's case, I think it is absolutely ridiculous to write him off after 14 games. I also think it is just as ridiculous to not do everything possible to make the best QB acquisition(s) this off season that they reasonably can make. EJ is going to be here next year whether people like it or not. Hopefully, he can be what this team needs. If not, there better be a viable option.
  19. Won't disagree. However, the fact is, outliers are calculated in every running back's stats. I didn't hear anybody this year saying, hey, if you throw out DeMarco Murray's fifteen 20+ yard runs, he only averaged 3.8 YPC rather than 4.7 YPC. It is what it is. And it is not just running backs. How about QBs, should we deduct those few 50+ yard passes, WR YAC, drops by WRs, etc., from their passing stats to more accurately assess them? Probably, that is why there are more advanced analyses by PFF, Football Outsiders, Pro Football Reference, etc. That is not what I was doing. I was simply responding to a poster who wanted to know what Spiller's overall stats were when running in 3 WR sets versus 2 WR or less sets.
  20. Ahh...good catch It should be 5.3 YPC in 3 WR sets and 4.2 YPC in less than 3 WR and overall average was 4.6. Still averaged over 1 YPC more in 3 WR sets. The remainder of his carries were in 4 WR sets and same average of 5.3. Should have been included. I checked, and all the other numbers are correct. Which, by the way, I am not trying to prove anything at all or convince anyone of anything.. The stats were simply in reply to a post asking what the stat breakdown was.
  21. Not sure what numbers you are referring to; however, they are what they are - taken straight out of the splits breakdown in ESPN. Take it up with ESPN's statistical Department.
  22. EJs first year: (Plays with no pressure) 64% Completion, 8 TDs, 7 INTs, 83.2 Rating (Plays with pressure - no blitzes) 43% Completion, 3 TDs, 2 INTs, 60.6 Rating (When blitzed) 48.1 Completion, 5 TDs, 1 INTs, 85.3 Rating Bortles' first year: (Plays with no pressure) 66% Completion, 11 TDs, 9 INTs, 84.9 Rating (Plays with pressure - no blitzes) 36% Completion, 0 TDs, 8 INTs, 22.9 Rating (When blitzed) 50% Completion, 3 TDs, 7 INTs, 48.6 Rating
