There are those that look at the flag as a symbol of the sacrifices so many have made to ensure the freedoms we all enjoy, and, that standing to honor the flag is not an"unnecessary blow job to false patriotism;" but, rather a simple reminder of those sacrifices and a chance to pay honor to all of those men and women that made them. You say they have the right to be offended when someone engages in behavior they believe is disrespectful to the flag and what they feel it represents, but then diminish their beliefs and deride them for being offended and having "delicate sensitivities." Condescension, arrogance, dismissiveness, and derision on your part seems to be vary much in the the categories of behaviors you seem to be railing against. As a 35 year veteran of the military and the criminal justice system myself, I absolutely believe in, and will protect, the right of Kaepernick to kneel during the national anthem. However, I still believe it is disrespectful. I will not personally attack him or accuse him of having "delicate sensitivities" for feeling as he does. Those that want to attack him or bring a racial element into the equation have their own issues they need to resolve. I believe they are a minority and that the vast majority of people that find it disrespectful, do so simply on the grounds I stated above. People can agree to disagree and still be respectful of one another. -
Just my opinion; however, I think most on this forum would rather read posts from cover1 than posts such as this....

Brady is arguably the best QB to play the game. It is hard to compare QBs from different eras. Montana had the advantage of playing during a time when you could keep championship teams together. Brady has primarly played in an era where rules allow for a much greater advantage in the passing game for elite QBs, even without HOF caliber receivers. Any way you argue it, he is still one of the best ever.

This. We can only wait and see. Even if he was a "known commodity" with a "proven track record of success in calling plays," the approach would be the same - as he still would be someone who was fired from his previous job. There are a lot of variables that go into a successful product on the field...

I'm assuming he means that Trucker John talks about the isssues, while refraining from being disrespectful or inconsiderate toward those who might disagree with him, or taking it to a personal level - as we see so often on this board. -

You have written post after post in this thread attacking the character of Sammy Watkins, the people who grew up in his neighborhood, the people in other neighborhoods that fall within your (undefined) definition of "trash," parents who do not meet your (again, undefined) standard of parenting skills, and any poster who happens to disagree with you. Yet, the words you utter in each successive post, serve only to suggest some disturbing characterological issues of your own. Perhaps, you might want to look up the definition of irony... -

As to the first part of your post: We do not know the specifics, nor are we entitled to them. As such, any conclusions drawn from them are mere speculation. You are welcome to do so. As for me, I don't believe there's much usefulness in that. As to the second part of your post: The answer is "no," we don't already know. If it were as simple as that, then we would have to write off anyone in life that has made serious mistakes. Human behavior is complex and risk assessment is a very subjective process. If you want to write him off at this point, feel free it is entirely within your right. I am just not ready to do so yet. -

My WHOLE POINT Is that the media can ask questions; however it is his choice whether or not he wants to provide any specific information. If he chooses not to, then his choice should be respected. It is not really a complicated concept. -

No, my position is twofold: First, you can ask him about what he did and you can comment on what he said or did. However, it is his choice whether or not he wants to provide any specifics. if he chooses not to, then his choice should be respected. Second, It seems to me that commenting on anything, in which you do not know all of the specifics, generally leads to inaccurate assumptions and conclusions. How in the world do you know whether or not he actually sought out rehab and was referred to a specialist for ADHD? How do you know whether or not the specific path he chose to take over the last month isn't the right one for him? How do you know whether or not this particular incident had more or less of an impact on him than his previous incidents? You don't. Nobody does. We will only know based on how he conducts himself from this point forward. -

Actually, it sounds very much like you think he should have to give answers and explanations about what he did or didn't do over the last month - or you wouldn't go on about the media not getting them. As I previously said, you have the right/prerogative to any opinion you desire - it doesn't mean anything to me one way or the other. I was simply pointing out that neither you nor the media are entitled to any explanation/clarification of what he did or didn't do. If your only concern is results, then why not wait and see what the results are. -

He is paid quite well to play football and absolutely should be held accountable for his actions, in so far as they impact his employment. However, whatever he is paid does not ENTITLE, you, the media, nor anyone else (with the exception of his employer - to a degree) to the details of what he did or did not do regarding treatment, therapy, or other attempts to change his personal life. You can judge him all you want and form whatever opinion you desire- you have that right. However, to be honest, the choice to provide insight and answers about what he did over the last month is his - not yours. -

Determining whether an individual is being truthful and/or sincere in any interview setting, much less a public one, is completely subjective and dependent upon many factors/variables. In the end, the only thing that matters is whether or not he refrains from engaging in behavior, from this point forward, that adversely affects his own welfare, his role with the team, and the team itself. That is not something anyone can predict from a press conference. While it is true that past behavior can often times be the best predictor of future behavior, that is not always the case. The world is full of people who have made far worse mistakes than Marcell Dareus, and who have gone on to become better people - perhaps even some of us on this board... He has to prove himself, that is for certain. I, for one, am willing to give him the chance to do so. -

It seems to be just one manifestation of a philosophy held by many on this board regarding anything negative that happens with this team: Somebody must be blamed and/or somebody must pay/be punished...in some way - and it often becomes very personal. Unfortunately, frustration and anger can bring out the worst in human nature. -

Neither defense was impressive to say the least. The Steeler offense put up over 450 yards of offense, even without a few key players, and could have put up 30 points or so had they not killed themselves. Once they are back to a full complement of offensive players and they correct their mistakes, they will be very tough to stop offensively. However, their defense is so bad that they may end up around .500. The Patriots will be contending for a playoff spot because Brady is still one of the top QBs in the game and he still has, arguably, one of the best tight ends to ever play. They will make their plays. Their defense is certainly suspect; however, Belicheat usually manages to get the most out of the defensive players he has. This week we play the Colts and first things first. With that said, I am really looking forward to next week. Ryan has one of the best defenses in the league and he has historically made things tough for Brady - even in most of the losses - with less talent. It will be interesting to see. I am one of those that wanted Brady to play. If we are going to be a legitimate contender, then we have to beat the best players/teams. I also have a lot of faith in Roman. As one poster stated earlier: It sometimes feels like Bellicheat is playing chess while his opponent is playing hopscotch/checkers/etc. I actually believe Roman is up for the chess game. Here's hoping... -

Good assessment 0P. I think the skill positions on offense are all better in terms of talent level. I think the greatest improvement on offense will be (1) The offensive line, due to positional coaching, additional experience, and influx of new talent - which, in turn will bring about greater improvement in the production at all the skill positions; and (2) Greg Roman's abilities as an OC. -
