The 'offseason' has officially started.

Or, at the very least, until the end of the draft? -
Nothing wrong with it as long as you don't just cherry pick the bad...

I'm sure we'll hear about players they've liked that were busts in 3...2...1...

Ideal Day 2 & 3 from Uncle Kirbs

Stating something that occurred, and then wondering why it occurred, without any attempt to actually find out just doesn't feel very insightful or thorough. It certainly does not prove that it was because of a lack of belief in Allen's abilities. That conclusion, or insinuation, is intellectually lazy at best

I can think of two... Your point is taken. Great rookie seasons, even without injury, do not always translate into great careers -
2018 NFL Draft - Day 1 Debrief
billsfan1959 replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are entitled to your opinion and certainly, are entitled to be disappointed. However, EVERY FO has "bungled" draft selections. And for every bad decision made, I could probably show you 2-3 good decisions made by the same FO. None of it has any bearing on whether or not Allen becomes a franchise QB. There are too many variables to consider. It is not just the Bills who have missed on QB selections. Since 1997, there have been 56 quarterbacks taken in the first round, less than 35% have won a playoff game and less than 35% have career winning records. In that same span, there were 33 QBs taken in the top 10. Excluding the four that have been in the league less than three years: 44% (13) have career winning records 44% (13) have won at least one playoff game 37& (11) have one more than one playoff game 20% (6) have won more than three playoff games 10% (3) have won more than 5 playoff games 17% (5) started at least one super bowl 6% (2) have won at least one super bowl That is the reality of drafting QBs. NOBODY knows which ones will be good and which ones will be bad. Only time will tell. There will be plenty of time to attribute blame and hold people accountable if he doesn't succeed. Until then, let's just hope he is one of the good ones. -
Good post. However, as to point 4, I think everything Beane has talked about since he arrived in Buffalo, regarding a franchise QB, fits Allen (for the most part): Big, strong, pocket passer with mobility, etc. I think he believes Cam Newton was a great selection for the Panthers (and I think most posters on this board would consider him a franchise QB) and I believe that is who he had in mind when he drafted Allen. Outside of Lamar Jackson, Allen might very well be the most athletic QB and has the arm to make every NFL throw. As to the accuracy issues, it is interesting that Newton has a career completion percentage of 58.5. Time will tell. However, I have absolutely no problem getting on board with the pick!

2018 NFL Draft - Day 1 Debrief

That may be so. However, to cherry pick a few bad selections by former front office personnel to indict the current regime and an entire profession regarding a process that is, at best, an inexact science, is. IMHO, intellectually lazy. -
2018 NFL Draft - Day 1 Debrief
billsfan1959 replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually, the people who picked Allen did not pick Maybin over Orakpo, or Wittner over Ngata, or EJ Manuel. Do you even follow your own team? Also, you want to dismiss the expertise of people who do this for a living when it comes to picking someone you don't like, yet rely on the expertise of people who do this for a living to quote them in the negative aspects about Allen. Make up your mind. -
2018 NFL Draft - Day 1 Debrief
billsfan1959 replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. However, IMHO, if he had literally done nothing in college to indicate success at the NFL level, he would have never even been in the national discussion of top QBs in this draft. Yet, the consensus opinion of the people who do this for a living is that he was not only a first-round talent, but a top 10 talent. He may very well end up being a bust; however, to declare him one at this point is ridiculous - and to say he literally showed nothing in college to indicate success at the NFL level is beyond absurd. -
Actually, you led off your post with that point, so, fair to respond to it. I think judging any 15/16-year-old kid on a handful of tweets with no context is silly. As to the rest of your post, I think Allen is going to surprise a lot of people.

And somehow he managed to be drafted in the top 10 in the NFL draft. Oh, to be such a loser.... -
Well written post, my friend. The FO did what most fans wanted them to do in going after a franchise QB. We all have our opinions on which QB in this draft we wanted; however, not one of us has any idea which ones will be good and which ones will not. They took their shot on a QB who was one of the few legitimate 1st round talents in this draft. I second you in welcoming him to Buffalo and wish him all the best.

And fans like you believe every opinion you have is superior to any opinion anyone else may have, and throw childish tantrums whenever someone disagrees with you. You can continue to be as aggressive, condescending, and obnoxious as you want in asserting your opinions, they are still merely opinions - no more valid than any other opinion on this board.
