Because EJ Manuel and Josh Allen are the same person, with the same mental and physical attributes, etc. Such a lazy analysis. Most posters are saying he is a rookie who showed promise in his debut. Hardly qualifies as any kind of mania. To say, "It makes total sense that someone who thought he was trash to maintain that opinion after today" is ridiculous.

Then don't ignore if it you can't. Just share it in one of the 5000 Mahomes threads that already exist.... -
[Edited Title] Patrick Mahomes Looks Great

But what I really want to know, right now, is how is Mahomes doing so far? I haven't seen anything posted on this board about him.... -
Resting Dawkins and rotating the offensive linemen every series certainly does not appear to have been a plan conducive to QB success in that game. I am not sure what the test actually was (although I do have my theory); however, it was clear that the coaching staff put Allen in situations that were more difficult than they had to be. I agree with you: Allen did impress given the circumstances.

Right. Last year was about getting rid of players that didn't fit their vision and salaries that they believed were not warranted or were detrimental in building the team they want. This year was about finding their franchise QB, eating the dead cap money, and filling positional needs the best that they could. Next year is about adding more talent through the draft and free agency, building the foundation of a competitive team, and continue to build/remain competitive each year thereafter, primarily through the draft. The team was very fortunate to make the playoffs last year and, anyone paying attention, should have been prepared for a team that will struggle this year. Hopefully, they are successful. If not, we will be starting over once again in 2020/2021. I do think they will be more competitive this year than they showed in their opener; however, I am under no illusions about how good this team will be. Personally, I will be happy if Allen demonstrates growth and and franchise QB potential to begin building around next year.

I get the point of the tweets - just not sure I agree that it was more coaching than personnel. For example, Doug Farrar being perplexed about plays designed for Peterman to be an anticipation thrower, when he is "not an anticipation thrower," is ridiculous. Peterman is awful; however, about the only good quality he has (which seems to only manifest in preseason games) is to throw with anticipation. The lack of talent and execution on the field Sunday at QB, OL, and WR was pretty self evident. I think I will give Daboll more than one game before I join the lynch mob...

Allen may struggle this year if he has to play; however, he doesn’t strike me as one who would lose his confidence - no matter how difficult those struggles may be.

I don't really have a problem with McDermott's responses. He is always going to be, to some degree, composed, measured and thoughtful. I'm not sure it is a reflection of his ability as a coach, it is just his public style - whether we like it or not. Personally, I could not care less about what he says or how he says it during public interviews. I am more interested in the product on the field. We have a team where talented players have been jettisoned for various reasons (whether or not we agree with the reasons) and a dead cap hit of over 50 million -leaving the team with holes throughout the roster that they could not adequately address this year, and a QB situation that was going to be troublesome until (and unless) Allen develops. This was always going to be about next year when they have cap space, draft picks and their franchise QB in place. Last year's success had more to do with luck, a weak AFC, and McDermott's ability to get his team to over achieve - more than anything else. Yesterday's game was a complete failure from top to bottom. But, to be honest, it didn't seem that much different than the Saints game last year when, at the end of the 3rd quarter it was 37-3, with the Saints having over 400 total net yards and the Bills having less than 100 total net yards along with two turnovers. It is not a good team - certainly not any better than last year's team. However, I don't think it is a team that is as bad as what was on display in yesterday's game any more than I thought last year's team was as bad as what we saw in the Saints game. I believe Mc Dermott will have this team playing better next week. But it is going to be a long season and next year is going to be the litmus test for this coaching staff and front office. Whether we like it or not.

The Bills were responsible for starting his career...and now for ending it...

Peterman will never live down the 5-pick half . . .

1st INT: That ball should be caught 100 out of 100 times at the NFL level. 2nd INT: Agree he should have taken a sack and live for the next down. 3rd INT: Hit in the middle of a throw on a three step drop - more on the O-line than on him. 4th INT: Hit in the middle of a throw on a three step drop - more on the O-line than on him. I have never been an advocate for Peterman; however, IMO, he took far too much blame for that performance. -

1st Int: Off the hands of Demarco. Good throw while running for his life in the face of three rushers 2nd Int: Underthrows receiver. Couldn't step up in pocket as he was being hit by two defenders. Good read (man was open), but ill-advised throw as he didn't have the arm to throw off his back foot 3rd Int: Hit (in less than 1.5 seconds from the snap) during the throw 4th Int: Hit (in less than 1.5 seconds from the snap) during the throw (although this type of throw is one he typically has trouble with due to lack of arm strength) 5th Int. The receiver ran a 12 yard route and (it appeared to me) Peterman threw the ball for a go route. Can't say which one was at fault. IMHO, I saw one ill-advised throw of the five interceptions. Even that was a good read in the face of pressure. I did not see total panic, complete loss of composure, or no regard for ball security. What I saw was a combination of factors that led to the five interceptions. Peterman certainly has his share of blame and the results were clearly what they were; however, I do not believe his performance was nearly as bad as the stat line indicated. -
Ian Rapoport: "Josh Allen is not quite ready" to start

Add in the facts that (1) Dawkins didn't play and (2) the coaching staff thought this game would be the best time to shift O-linemen around every series...
