  1. Agree. IMO, it was a mistake to not have a veteran presence for Allen from the beginning. Water under the bridge now; however, definitely a good thing to have going forward.
  2. Yeah, we will never know what he would have done had he not been restrained and I certainly do not want to indict him on speculation. Still bothers me that he had to be restrained at all and that he touched her in any way - even given her aggressive behavior. However, given what I do know of the incident, I agree with you that his release was as much about PR issues as it was about what he actually did. I think he did enough to warrant a suspension and I wouldn't disagree with their decision if it truly was based solely on his behavior and if that same standard applied to all of their players. Always good takes, Alphadawg7.
  3. I cannot comment on what happened to precipitate what occurred in that hallway, as all of the information (from interviews and other investigative activity) gathered by the police has not been released, and it is silly to try to reach any definitive conclusions before knowing all the facts. Like everyone else, I did see the video. Technically speaking, both Hunt and the young woman could have been charged with simple assault based solely on the video evidence. People can debate whether any charges should have been brought against either one; however, the prosecuting attorney(s) clearly felt it wasn't worth pursuing. They make those discretionary decisions all the time. The young woman was clearly acting aggressively in the video, so, to a certain degree, she clearly has some culpability in what transpired. I don't give her a free pass. Having said that, I have a bigger issue with Hunt. He could have simply walked into his room and called hotel security or the police to have the young woman removed from the hotel. He didn't do that. Instead he chose to react aggressively and, IMO, he crossed the line. What bothered me the most is that Hunt had to be physically restrained, which means he was no longer able to restrain himself. He reached a point where his rage was greater than his self-control, and I am not so sure that things would not have ended up a lot worse had he not been restrained. That young woman does share some culpability in the escalation of events; however, there is nothing that young woman did that justified Hunt putting his hands or feet on her. He was never in any physical danger from this woman. While there were no serious injuries inflicted, it doesn't minimize the fact that he crossed the line when he touched her in any way. The fact that he reached a level of rage that caused others to have to physically hold him back from going after a woman is actually more disturbing to me. So, I have no problem with whatever discipline the NFL or his team would want to hand out. I agree with you that it is hypocritical of the Chiefs to release him while keeping someone like Hill on the team. I do believe there should be consistency in these things and that discipline should be based on the facts - not on PR issues.
  4. Hunt's behavior did not rise to the level of what Ray Rice did. However, Rice's behavior shouldn't be any kind of a "standard." Hunt was no victim here. He is a grown man, an NFL athlete, with an entourage around him, and was never in any physical danger from this woman. She was certainly aggressive; but, Hunt had every opportunity to just walk in his room, close the door, and call hotel security or the police. He didn't do that. Instead he chose to be physically aggressive in response. Did he inflict serious bodily harm? No. However, I am not certain he wouldn't have had he not been restrained. IMO, what he did, while not resulting in any serious consequences, crossed the line. He should be suspended.
  5. So difficult to understand why your girlfriend came at you with a knife....
  6. Not to mention at least 3 drives would have been extended on 3rd down plays, two in Jax territory, creating more offensive opportunities for Allen and more scoring opportunities.
  7. I'd sooner have Marcel Marceau And he's dead
  8. Perhaps you do not see so well
  9. Gliding down the field McKittrick finds the endzone Who is that? They ask
  10. And, of course, we all know that McKittrick is an Anglicized form of Mac Shitrig, originating from the Gaelic form of the Old Norse personal name Sigtyrggr, which means "True Victory." So, it all comes full circle.
  11. It would have to be a category 5 hurricane
  12. I am not referring to his ability when I refer to his "rawness," but, rather the fact that he didn't play against the level of competition the others faced, he did not have the opportunity to play with NFL caliber talent around him, and it was a bigger leap for him than the others. Outside of that, I agree that, once I saw him play at the NFL level, I thought he was everybit as capable as the others.
  13. Good write-up OP. I have liked what I've seen from Allen since preseason in terms of potential. I saw improvement in him in all of the areas I was looking for in yesterday's game. A long way to go; however, he is headed in the right direction. While the NFL has become a passing league and the rules now facilitate better QB play, it is still difficult to come in and have a very high level of success as a rookie. Some do, most don't. There are so many variables that come into play. Probably the three top variables, for me, are supporting talent on OL and skill positions, defensive strength of opponents, and readiness to play at the NFL level. Rosen and Mayfield were probably the most ready to play, followed by Darnold, Allen, and Jackson. Allen and Rosen have the least surrounding offensive talent, followed by Darnold, Jackson, and then Mayfield. Allen has played the most difficult schedule with an avg opponent defensive DVOA ranking of 9, followed by Darnold (13), Rosen (14), Mayfield (20), and Jackson (28). I'm one that thinks this rookie QB class has the potential to eventually produce some very good QBs. I don't know yet which ones will or won't. However, given Allen's "rawness" coming into the league, the lack of surrounding offensive talent, and the strength of opposing defenses he has faced, I am happy with where he stands in relation to the others and the progress I saw yesterday. I am looking forward to seeing what he can do the rest of the year.
  14. Their defense was 6th (7th passing) in DVOA. They are very physical and they played very well yesterday. Such a deliberately misleading comment.
  15. Sort of a pointless argument to me as there is no way to know if the "successful" players, that sat any length of time before playing, would have been less successful had they started immediately - just as there is no way to know if those "unsuccessful" players who started immediately would have been more successful had they sat for a while.
  16. Clearly, the OP was referencing the supporting cast on offense. So, the answer to your question would be no.
  17. I am not emotional and you have every right to your opinion, critical or otherwise. My point was that the very first thing you quoted from the game yesterday was the stat line and how that stat line would not win divisions or playoff games, and was not reflective of franchise QBs, or that kind of potential. IMO, (1) that stat line didn't accurately reflect the play on the field yesterday and (2) that stat line literally has no relevance to how good or bad Allen will be in the future. There has been plenty to criticize about Allen's game this season; and there were things in yesterday's game that could be legitimately criticized (as with virtually every player in virtually every game); however, yesterday's game was not the game to use as any sort of evidence that he cannot become a franchise QB. That is my opinion. You are entitled to yours.
  18. If you are hung up on the stat line for this game as an indication of bad play or his potential in the future, then you clearly see only what you want to see. There was absolutely nothing in the game yesterday that indicates Allen doesn't have the mental/cerebral abilities to be a good QB in the NFL.
  19. Stats do not win games - plays win games. Allen is a rookie who hadn't played in five weeks and with 24 total quarters of NFL football under his belt. The stat line you quote does not accurately reflect his play in this game. We wanted to see improvement in his game and we saw it. He made better decisions, got rid of the ball quicker, moved in the pocket better, was more accurate, led the team on drives of 54, 68, 75, and 86 yards, and made the plays he needed to make against a Jags defense that played 10 times better than the jets defense the Bills faced two weeks ago. He has a long way to go; however, he played very well without a strong running game and under duress on a lot of his drop backs. I saw some of the improvement I wanted to see and I am excited to see what he does the rest of the year.
  20. I certainly am not touting Allen as a franchise QB; however, he was pretty impressive in his first game back, after 5 weeks, and against a very, good defense. There is nothing "clear" about quoting a stat line to describe Allen's play today.
  21. Shhhhh…. That kind of talk is going to make some posters very angry
