Jim Kelly (93) vs Josh Allen (19)
billsfan1959 replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was not talking about when he came into the league. I have been talking about this year and, so far, he has been the darling of the NFL and talked about for League MVP. The truth is, over his last 5 games, he has been averaging 190 yards per game passing with 5 TDs, 5 INTs, and 4 Fumbles. He has increased his carries during that time to 15 per game and 93 yards per game. I like Jackson and, like Allen, I think he is progressing. However, those are not numbers worthy of League MVP, particularly at QB. He has primarily been doing it with his legs over the last six weeks. Like I said, nothing wrong with thta as he is doing what he needs to do to win. But, let's be honest here. When ALlen was doing that same thing over the last six games of last year, there were a lot of critics, and you were as vocal as anyone, saying he needed to become a better passer and not rely on his legs, and that it was not a sustainable way of playing QB. I'm not any more critical of Jackson than I am about Allen. But, I am consistent. -

Yep, it does; however, he did most of that damage with his feet. Nothing wrong with that - but, as a passer, he is closer to the bottom of the league than the top. When Allen was doiong that last year, the same people applauding Lamar now were saying that Allen needed to become a better QB with his arm then. Just pointing out the fact that he doesn't take near the criticism that Allen takes as a passer, even though, since the second game of the season he has steadily declined. -

And seven of Lamar Jackson's TDs came in the 1st two games. Since then, 5 TDS, 5 INTS, 4 Fumbles. But hey, he is at least in the discussion for League MVP. -

Well, I'd say you are more than qualified to know one when you see one... -
Schein doubles down on Bills...

@Kirby Jackson did nail it and my son and I both have been big fans since the pick. We have had a discussion about getting him the ball every game in which he has been healthy. During the 1st quarter yesterday, he texted me, “Finally!!!!!” -

Yes. -
Why? It is a fools errand. You cannot compare two things with completely different variables and reach any sort of meaningful conclusions. Differrent players, coaches, gameplans, conditions, play to play scenarios and situations, etc., etc. etc.... We beat the Jets, who beat the Cowboys, who beat the Eagles, who beat us. What exactly does that say, other than on any given Sunday (Monday and Thursday)...?

I rarely agree with BringBackOrton (no offense intended ); however, I think the analyses on Jackson tends to be a bit on the rosy side and I am not sure why. He started out well this year. Over his first 3 games, he averaged 287 yds per game with 7 TDs, 0 INTs, and 0 Fumbles. He also averaged 9 rushes and 53 yds per game with one TD. Over his last five games, he has averaged 190 yds per game with 5 TDs, 5 INTs, and 4 Fumbles. He has gotten worse in pretty much every passing metric (and it is not just stat reading, I have actually watched 3 of those 5 games - and he did not look good in the passing game). What has incresed over the last five games are the numbers in his rushing game. He has averaged 15 rushes and 93 yds per game with 4 TDs. I think, his play right now, from a passing perspective, is closer to the bottom of the league than the top. He is making plays; however, at the moment, they are primarily with his legs and I am not sure his overall success is sustainable in the style of play I am seeing right now. What I will say is this: Like Allen, I think it is too soon to reach any definitive conclusions and he is winning.

As someone who rarely complains about, or criticizes, this team. I think it is absolutely fair to question how Singletary could average around 6 touches a game until yesterday. I don't care what round he was drafted in or how many teams passed on him. It was clear he was a natural playmaker. He was not injured the first two games and, by all indications, he has been 100% since his return from his injury. If you want to give them the benefit of the doubt, feel free. However, to say they should be complimented for not really using him until yesterday is really going out of your way put a good spin on it.
-
You're right, he should be fresher for the second half of the season. Still, Singletary is a natural playmaker and should have been featured in this offense from the first game. If I thought it was related to injury at all, I would be more understanding. However, I don't think it was. On an offense that needs playmakers, I just don't understand how they failed to incorporate, perhaps, the biggest playmaker.

It took Peterson 1 quarter to recognize what Singletary brings to the game and it took our coaching staff 5 games. Hopefully, he remains featured in the gameplan from this point forward.
