  4. I didn't say it wouldn't be. It wasn't to downplay the seriousness of what is happening. It wasn't to minimize the deaths. It was simply to place things in perspective for people who are acting like death is a novelty. It isn't. Over 2.5 million people die each year in this country.

  9. He said it could be a possibility, not the best case scenario. Can you even comprehend the difference. You have been non-stop with your doomsday scenarios since this thread began. This is what happens in a society where everyone is a "victim," coddling people everytime something happens they don't like, and providing safe spaces to retreat to whenever reality is too much to deal with. When real adversity comes along it is nothing but histrionic handwringing and finding someone to blame.

  11. They never do, Bob. For instance, the 2.8 million people that died in this country last year didn't contribute to the economy this year. That's generally how it works.

  13. How is it helpful to keep whining about what you think SHOULD have been done. No country was prepared for this. No leader was prepared for this. Outside of a few outliers, there are no countries with any significant number of cases that are faring any better than this country is right now. That's the truth. China lied to the entire world, with the WHO as its mouthpiece and nobody was ready for what they were about to face. Now we are in it. The crisis is here and how we respond is the measure of who we are. Maybe it's the fact I have spent almost my entire adult life as a public servant in the military and law enforcement; but, whatever the reason, I seem to have little tolerence for people that do nothing but panic or complain incessantly from the sidelines during a time of crisis.   14. I am well aware of the fact they are ahead of us. Whether or not, you want to admit it, the travel bans and measures put in place have contributed to the delay of the spread here. That delay has allowed us to take measures to increase to manufacturing of needed medical supplies, erection of temporary hospitals, and other steps neccessary to prevent our medical systems from being overwhelmed to the point you are seeing in other countries. Why don't you quit complaining and pointing fingers. It isn't helpful to anyone.

  17. I didn't have a good relationship with my father when I was young and we had no communication with each other for over thirty years. I wanted to have some kind of relationship with him before he died, so, I reconnected with him. Unfortunately, by that point he was suffering from vascular dementia and we didn't have a chance to truly reconcile. He passed away a short time later. My wife knew how much I struggled in reconciling things with my father and believed I might find some comfort and peace visiting a medium. I had never done anything like that before (or since) and I had always been skeptical of anything in that realm because I hadn't experienced it myself. I went to a medium recommended by someone and didn't even give my correct last name when I made the appointment. She had no information about who I was and, during the session, I literally gave her no help at all - poor woman. The amazing thing is, she spoke about my father at length and described him and our relationship (particularly when I was young) in the kind of detail, and in such a way, that I believed she was genuine. I still have the recording and listen to it now and then. My wife was right, it did bring me some comfort and peace. I used to be skeptical of prescience/psychic abilities or experiences unless there was empirical evidence it was possible. Now, I believe it is possible until I am presented with empirical evidence that it is not. As a fellow Air Force alum, when did you serve?

  22. I dislike any attempt at twisting facts into what you want them to be. I tend to be consistent in that way.
