I'm sure memories of 2003 were flashing through his head when he got flattened by the convoy escorting big Sam Adams to a TD in week one....

Jackson, Johnson, and Fitz

Most unlikely "big three" of all time! 2 7th rounders and 1 UDFA!! -
I was a little down on TT myself in the offseason but he seems to doing better. I thought he actually impressed tonight, he almost had a safety.

Hairston to play some LT vs Lions
buffalohotwings replied to Peace Frog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought Hairston looked surprisingly fluid out there tonight. Was impressed! -
From what I saw I thought he looked pretty good tonight....the announcers even said he was holding his ground against double teams...and he made a nice play in the backfield as well. I don't think you guys are giving him enough credit!

I am pretty sure preseason games are scheduled to be close geographically, and outside the division. If you notice KC always plays St. Louis, the FL teams always play each other, same thing with the West Coast teams.

haha! like this one!

Chan 29th best coach?
buffalohotwings replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just curious....Why do you feel more comfortable with Chan as a HC than Nix as a GM? What has Nix done to make you feel this way? Personally, I think Nix has this franchise moving in the right direction, and if we falter it will likely be Gailey seeing the door before Nix. -
If you havent tuned it for an entire episode of "primetime" on espn in a decade, you might be a bills fan. If you watch an NFL yearbook team video and theres 90% personnel turnover from two years prior, you may be a bills fan If you state several times that you think next year the O-Line will start to "gel," you may be a bills fan.

Torell Troup's Progress
buffalohotwings replied to buffalohotwings's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Torell, Im sorry I started this thread and said the buffalorumblins article was alarming. Alarming wasn't the right word, and I take it back. I just have high expectations for you, that's all. The bills run D has been really bad and you becoming a starting caliber NT is going to do wonders for this defense. Im sure the addition of Wanny and Dareus, along with your core training, will lead to big things in 2011. Marcel who? Torell Troup in the houssssseee -
I have read that Troup's been working hard on his core and that he weighs 326. Has anyone else heard how the coaching staff feels about him going into this year? Anyone else have any info on how he might progress in his second year or some good stats from the second half of the year? I read a piece about his game against JAX and I found it kind of alarming that he was getting pushed around so much, especially for a guy that is built to be a NT. Aren't these the guys supposed to be pushing OTHER guys around? http://www.buffalorumblings.com/2011/5/24/2186513/torell-troup-film-analysis-buffalo-bills If anyone has studied him I'd love to hear more about him.

GRRRRRRRRRREAT Post!!! One of the plays I really liked was a spin move to pressure the LSU QB in his own endzone. He was 3-4 steps away, but made a great spin move and was on the quarterback "like that." Even though that wasnt a sack, i was really impressed by his awareness of where the QB was and the quickness in which he got to him. Really appreciate the video!

Interesting thread...I know Nix has says that we have 6 defensive lineman he feels comfortable with (1. Troup, 2. Carrington, 3. KW, 4. Dareus, 5. Dwan, 6. Spencer J)...so that tells me he doesnt see Kelsay as a key rotational lineman. So where is he gunna play, OLB? I just really hope Nix and co realized kelsay cannot play OLB. IMHO he looked awful back there last year.
-
I dont think he underachieved last year, in fact he had a "breakout" season. IMHO, I think next year the bar will be set really high this year, and with added attention from the secondary and suspect mental toughness, I think his numbers will be slightly lower, thus "underachieving." I hope I'm wrong, I certainly have been before!

What will it take for each of the following to EXCEED expectations, and therefore have a "breakout" year? **I didnt list some players like Stevie Johnson, Byrd, KW, and Fitzpatrick bc I think they already had theirs. There are others (Poz, Dwan Edwards, etc) that are not included because I think they have limited upside and are not likely to breakout** Here is JMHO on what I think each player would need to do to EXCEED expectations: Torrell Troup-be our second best defensive lineman behind Kyle Williams, be true NT we drafted him to be, disruptive player commanding two blockers Alex Carrington-be better than Dwan Edwards and get 3-5 sacks and 4-7 tackles for loss Marcell Dareus-pro bowl (I would be more than happy with less that this, but I think for a #3 pick to breakout he needs to make the probowl, see Suh last year) Danny Batten-full time starter, be as disruptive as Moats was at times last season CJ Spiller-1500 YARDS FROM SCRIMMAGE Marcus Easley-800 yds 3 TDs Shawn Nelson-550 yds 4TDs Aaron Williams-be our BEST corner by year's end, 3 pics, great tackling Arthur Moats-be best linebacker, 6 sacks, lots of pressure on QB Kelvin Sheppard-become captain of LBs, be better than Poz, and as disruptive as Moats was last year Chris Hairston-become starting RT for this year and foreseeable future Demeterius Bell-become franchise left tackle Da'Norris Searcy-win starting jobs and make 2 picks Ed Wang-win a starting job David Nelson-800 yds, 6 TDs, push #2 receiver and be clearly better than Parrish/Easley Donald Jones-600 yds, 4 TDs, become 3rd WR Aaron Maybin-consistently work into rotation, dress every game, record 4 sacks Roscoe Parrish-900 yds receiving, 5 TDs Michael Jasper-become part of rotation by years end Kraig Urbik-wins guard spot and makes it strength on team Chad Rinehart-wins guard spot and makes it strength on team Merriman-returns to form from 3-4 years ago, 7 sacks, makes teams gameplan for him McKelvin-becomes best CB with 5 picks What do you think each player needs to do to have a breakout year and exceed expectations? What do you think of my criteria for exceeding expectations for each player? Finally, which 5 do you think have the best chance of doing this? Mine: Kelvin Sheppard-I think he will be as disruptive as Moats last year and be our new captain on defense Aaron Williams-I think hell be our best CB by years end and get 3 picks Alex Carrington-better than Dwan, makes plays and gets sacks and some tackles for loss David Nelson-pushes underachieving Stevie Johnson and gets 800 yds and 6 TDs, while Stevie gets 850 and 5 Da'Norris Searcy-wins starting jobs, Donte who? Players cut from list? Ed Wang-disappoints and doesnt really show anything, another T picked up in FA, whenever that starts Aaron Maybin-they decide to cut him loose Thoughts? Feedback appreciated!!

2011 NFL Predictions...
buffalohotwings replied to buffalohotwings's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What were we with Fitz as the starter? 4-10 I think, not to mention 4-4 in our last 8 games. I think well win 6 or 7 games this year. 7 would be showing signs of progress IMHO. Our defense cant get much worse, and if Chan/Fitz the O keep finding ways to be "ok" I cant imagine we'd win less than 5 games... key additions: Wanny Dareus (If Dareus lives up to potential, I think he and KW will be a force and will make game changing plays) Shepperd (I would imagine learning curve isnt too great for a 3-4 ILB) Merriman (i dont think hell be back to his old form, but even at 75% I have to imagine that would be better KELSAY at the position last year) key losses: Drayton F (if he doesnt come back) Whitner -
