In another post you said we beat a mediocre team and the worst team in the league. I'm assuming you meant KC when you said worst team in the league, but that isn't true if you're taking last year into account, when they won their division. So which is it? Also, since the halfway point last season, the Bills have a winning record at 6-4. Just saying.

People will see what they want to see and the rankings will reflect that. Guys who picked us as sleepers will have us in the top 10 and talk about how great the comeback was. Guys who picked us to be bottom feeders will cite how bad the defense looked and will have us ranked in the 20's.

I think you missed the point of the column if that was your takeaway

Official BILLS vs RAIDERS GAMEDAY THREAD

good start -
It might not be struggling, but it's not running effectively either. And them passing on 1st down doesn't invalidate my statement about using 1st and 2nd to set yourself up for 3rd. Bottom line is the KC running game was mostly a non factor, and didn't put them in a position to convert. The fact that their passing game was even less of a factor and didn't put them in a position to convert either doesn't change that. All I'm saying is the yards per carry stat in this game was highly misleading. If you guys come in and average 6 YPC by consistently getting 5-7 yard runs, It will be a long day for us. If you do it the way the Chiefs did, it will be a long day for you.
-
Bump, thanks for proving my point. If you don't even attempt to run the ball on third in an entire game because every third down is longer than 4 yards, your run game was not effective at converting 3rd downs. Part of converting 3rd downs is using 1st and 2nd to set up 3rd and short, which gives you a lot more options and makes things harder on the defense by not forcing you into a passing situation. The run game didn't do that for the Chiefs. I guess you're right though. The Chiefs were so good at running the ball that they only scored 7 points and had the ball less than 23 minutes.
-
Again, did you watch the game? the Chiefs were unable to convert 3rd downs on the ground or move the chains at all in the running game with the exception of the big plays, and at that point in the game the Bills were already up by 20. The Chiefs didn't abandon the run because they couldn't afford to run it, they abandoned it because it wasn't working for them early even when the game was relatively close. You also might want to check your math. 56-22=34 10-1=9 34/9=3.77 3.77<4

No, I'm not sure about it, but you'll have more trouble running the ball than you think. Clearly you didn't watch the game if you think Charles didn't have much problems. The chiefs had a couple long runs which inflated their YPC stat, but other than that they got shut down by the Bills. The Chiefs are a run first team, and the Bills held them to 18 carries. If the run game was working for them, they would have stuck with it more. If you want a better gauge of how effective their running game was, look at how many third downs they converted and their time of possession.

You'll have to imagine because they won't be getting past our front 7.

So up late and watched the Raiders

And being someone who seems reasonably intelligent (for a raiders fan at least) I would think you'd realize you left yourself wide open for an easy, although admittedly lame joke. -

You have a wide receiver on your d-line? now I'm really not scared of them -
If YOU had the power to have Brady or Fitz as qb

Very funny, but the Bills winning the Superbowl with Fitz is less far-fetched than some random fan suddenly having the power to trade him for Brady. -

Since we're talking hypotheticals, what if the Bills win a Superbowl with Fitz? would that change anyone in the "Brady all day, every day" camp's mind? -

This sounds likely. Good observation. -

The Chiefs didn't run it enough because the Bills shut down the running game. The Chiefs had no success on the ground until after they were down 20-0, when they were able to break a couple long ones because the Bills were no longer focused on stopping the run with the Chiefs clearly in a passing situation. These runs heavily skew the yards per carry average. The better stats to look at to see how much the Bills shut down the run game would be the Chiefs 3rd down conversion rate and the time of possession. Clearly the running game wasn't keeping the offense on the field when it needed to. -
Can't help thinking about week #3
Chandemonium replied to JESSEFEFFER's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Again, I'm not looking past anybody, but even if I was that'd be ok because I'm not on the team. I'm also not saying a win this week won't help the team's confidence and momentum going into the week 3 showdown with the Pats, because I think it will. All I'm saying is beating the Raiders is not a prerequisite for beating the Pats, and losing to the Raiders would not make a win against the Pats meaningless. -

This is a difficult question to answer honestly. My initial knee jerk reaction is the same as the OP, I dislike Brady so much I'd stick with Fitz. Thinking about it more, however, I realize that I disliked Drew Bledsoe almost as much and never would have wanted him on the Bills if you asked me at the beginning of 2001, but by the end of 2002 I sure liked seeing him throw for 4000+ yards in a Bills uni. While the same would likely be the case for Brady, I still don't think I would make the switch because I like Fitz a lot and it's clear that the team trusts and respects him and he's capable of getting the job done. I would think long and hard about it though. -

I'm sorry, but that's a loser mentality. Every team has bad games and loses some (except the '72 Dolphins). Sometimes, good teams even lose to bad ones (See Patriots vs Browns, 2010). I expect the Bills to win this week, but even if they don't I don't expect them to fold up like a cheap tent and get in the fetal position in preparation for their beating from the Pats. Win, lose, or draw this week, I expect the Bills to give the Pats a hell of a game next week, and wouldn't be at all surprised if they beat them. -

Beating the Pats for the first time in 7 years will be meaningless if we lose to the Raiders? Are you kidding me? I agree with the OP on this, the team has to take it one game at a time, the fans don't. Even if we lose to the Raiders, a dominating road win over a playoff team from last year and a win over a division rival who is a consensus pick among the media experts to be a top 3 team will be huge. If the Bills knock off the Pats,it will give the team a huge confidence boost and people will start to take notice, even if the Raiders beat them 100-0. That said, I'm not overlooking the Raiders and their d-line and running game have me a little nervous, but I still fully expect the Bills to win this week. GO BILLS! -
