Report: Sammy could return this season!
ChanOverChin replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No doubt that is good news for the Bills and their chances for making the playoffs this year. Lynn is doing it with mirrors with the WRs that he currently has on the roster. It has to be one of the weakest WR corps in the entire league without Watkins, yet Rex and Lynn have somehow found a way to win. -
Good topic. The Bills do need help at WR with Watkins out. They are also without Salas, Easley, and Listenbee as has been mentioned. Currently we have a WR corps of: Woods - Proving to be a very reliable WR, but still not a #1 WR. Goodwin - Give him some jet sweeps and some post patterns. He's not a possession receiver. He doesn't have great hands. He is fragile for sure. He's more of a #3 or #4 WR playing as the #2 WR. Hunter - Loads of potential. Love his height and speed. Can he be consistent in getting open and catching the ball?? Lots of questions, but certainly a guy worth taking a chance on. We need him to come through big time with Watkins out. Could be a good #2 WR. Powell - Has potential. Good speed/great burst. Needs to be consistent. Is a #5 WR. Tate - Purely a ST guy, but can fill in when needed. The Bills definitely need help at this position. Anybody know Easley's or Listenbee's status?? Word is that the Bills could get Watkins and Salas back by Week #11. I wouldn't mind seeing Whaley bring in another vet WR for at least until Watkins gets back.

Where is FireRex and his constituents??
ChanOverChin replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The difference now is that the top teams in the AFC are vulnerable. Denver no longer has a proven QB. Pittsburgh's secondary is porous. Cincy is not the same team they were last year. Indy, KC, SD, Oakland are all beatable. Miami and NYJ are 1-4. -
Where is FireRex and his constituents??

Hey FireRex, I'm just pullin' your chain. Calm yourself young man. Not everyone wants to fire the HC as soon as something goes wrong. It's just aggravating for me to hear that so often. Rex Ryan is not a neophyte like Doug Marone. Ryan has been an NFL coach for two decades. He's been a very successful NFL DC, and he's actually taken an NFL team to the playoffs. That's reason enough to cut him some slack and give him some time to prove what he can do with the Bills WITHOUT having to deal with impatient fans calling for his head. All that accomplishes is the unnecessary creation of a negative atmosphere. Bills beat Pats 16-0: With or without Brady, still a very impressive win. The Brissett-led Patsies did beat Houston just one week prior 27-0. Anytime a Bills coach gets over on Belichick it's a good thing. Bills beat Cards 33-18: Pummeled and berated the mighty Carson Palmer and his slew of speedy WRs along w/ stud RB D. Johnson. The Cards were once thought to be a top 3 team. Bills beat Rams: Rams were 3-1. They have a talented roster. Gurley and Austin will give teams fits. Their defense is ultra-aggressive under former Bills HC G. Williams. The Bills have a 3-2 record after playing two home games and three road games. That tilts their schedule in their favor. They can and should beat their next two opponents (SF and Miami), which would get them to 5-2. Then we see what the Bills are really made of when the Bills get the Pats at home. If the Bills win that game they will finally have an inside track on not only making the playoffs, but also winning the division outright. Keep in mind that Ryan has been able to be successful without the likes of DT M. Dareus (best defender), Sh. Lawson (R1 pick), R. Ragland (R2 pick - expected starter), RB K. Williams (ate himself off of the team), WR/ST ace M. Easley, OLB M. Lawson, RT S. Henderson (former starter) all out up to now. He has had to rely on guys like OLB L. Alexander (mostly an ST player), ILB Z. Brown (journeyman), and CB N. Robey-Coleman (UDFA). With Dareus and Henderson back this week things are looking promising. S A. Williams is finally getting healthy, which is big for the defense because he's a difference-maker. DE Sh. Lawson, who should be a big contributor on defense, returns for Week #7 vs Miami. There is still hope that WR Watkins and Salas return for Week #11. That all bodes well for the Bills and their chances for making the playoffs this year. -
Just sayin'. The Bills have now beaten the Patriots (4-1), the Cards, and the Rams (3-2). It's looking like a two horse race in the AFCE with NE at 4-1, Buffalo at 3-2 (with the head to head advantage over NE and the second game vs NE at Buffalo), Miami at 1-4, and NYJ at 1-4. Upcoming games include SF at Buffalo and at Miami, two very winnable games for the Bills. Then the Bills play a big game vs NE at Buffalo, which could greatly decide their fate in the long run. BTW, the Bills will have added Dareus, Henderson, and Sh. Lawson to a team that is already on the rise. It's amazing how things can turn around when you have a lil faith.

Should the Bills move on from Dareus?
ChanOverChin replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A resounding NO. You don't give up that easily on an impact player like Dareus. -
A. Lynn himself is calling for the Bills to bring back K. Williams. he has stated that the Bills don't have the bruising RB that they need...and K. Williams fills the bill. Regarding M. Lawson.....you bring him back because he's still a very good player. he was suspended just like K. Williams, not because he can't play. Just imagine the Bills being able to get DT M. Dareus, OT S. Henderson, RB K. Williams back, and LB M. Lawson back right away while adding DE/OLB Sh. Lawson in a few weeks. Potential cuts: RB R. Bush or RB J. Williams (who could be placed on the PS), OC Ikard, OT Ola, reserve LB Humber, TE G. Christian, OLB McCray.
-
Because he's not a WR, duh!! Just because Clay can be moved to the outside on occasion doesn't mean that he should now play WR. The Pats do it with Gronk all of the time. It's a way to exploit a mismatch. However, the Bills need Clay to play the TE position because he's the best that they have at that position by far.
-
Get a grip. Kar. Williams was no fluke last years. He scored NINE TDs for Pete sake!! Williams, when healthy and with his mind right, is a stud RB. He will supplant Gillislee as the #2 RB at some point. I love Gillislee as well, but Williams gives the Bills a real thumper to complement McCoy. This is a big deal getting Williams back!!
-
Rumor. Karlos is back in town.
ChanOverChin replied to Billschinatown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
K. Williams is a dynamic player. He would give us something we don't have....a big RB for short yardage and goal line situations (RB Jon. Williams is not nearly as good). It's rare to have a RB with his size and speed combination. McCoy and Williams make a great combo at RB. The Bills could then try to move R. Bush, who doesn't seem to have a role with the team. -
Stephen A Smith- responds to last week's critique
ChanOverChin replied to dawolv's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Smith is a fool. He should just eat his crow with his big fat mouth and shut the f*ck up!! The Pats were still beating everybody they played with Garappolo and Brissett. They just beat Houston with Brissett 27-0. People were saying they were unbeatable....that they would go undefeated for Pete's sake!! Then Belichick plays against Rex's defense and gets his *ss whipped. The Bills don't just beat the Pats they shut them out on their home turf. That hasn't been done BTW since 1993 (that's 23 yrs for those of you keeping track). You have to watch the Belichick conf. after the game to understand fully just how embarrassed Belichick was to be so thoroughly beaten by Rex and the Bills. I thought the man was going to cry. He can hardly speak. His answers are a joke. -
Rex and his Bills totally dominated Belichick and the mighty Pats.........on their home turf. No other team had even come close to competing with the Pats previously. Give Rex some credit. That was quite an effort by the Bills. It's not often that Belichick is embarrassed like that. It looks like Rex's decision to fire Roman and promote Lynn to OC was indeed an outstanding move. It has changed the outlook for this team for sure. Things are really looking up. The Bills should get Kouandjio, P. Lewis, Salas back healthy. Dareus and Henderson will also be back from suspension for the next game vs the LA Rams. Sh. Lawson and M. Easley should be back for Week #7 vs Miami. BTW, the Pats were ranked the #1 team in the league prior to the game with the Bills. Not anymore. Mitchell and Brissett ran through the Bills' DB drills, not once, but twice in order to stir up some sh*t. It was their way of saying " We don't respect you". The Bills took exception and let them know about it. That's all that happened. Robey confirmed as much after the game.

Whaley is in fact a very good GM. He didn't draft Manuel. That was old man Nix. He can't help it that Watkins can't stay healthy. He's one of the few GMs that we've had who is not afraid to maneuver. He has had some very good drafts. The grass is not always greener. There's a lot to be said for continuity.

Reasons to believe it'll be Jacoby Brissett this Sunday?
ChanOverChin replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it's going to be Brissett. The Pats aren't going to rush Garapollo back when they know they can win with Brissett (i.e. they just beat Houston 27-0 with Brissett). Garapollo was the #2 QB last week so he could play in a pinch. I think he'll be the #2 QB again this week. With Brissett at QB NE is forced to change their game plan. They're no longer a quick, short passing team. The Bills are going to have to get a heavy dose of L. Blount in this game. If they can prevent him from having a big game then they can force Brissett to make some big plays....and that's probably their best chance to create some turnovers and ultimately win the game. -
I think the Bills need to bring K. Williams back. it's difficult to find a big back with his type of speed and athleticism. He's a stud. The Bills don't really have a big back for short yardage and goal line situations. McCoy is a great back, but he's not great in short yardage situations. KW is a great complement to McCoy. I would go with McCoy, KW, Gillislee, and Bush OR McCoy, KW, Gillislee, and J. Williams if the Bills believe that Bush is washed up. Gillislee is a good RB. They're not going to cut him. J. Williams is unproven and I don't think the coaching staff has much confidence in him at this point. If KW were to be resigned JW may be moved to the PS.

Watkins apparently said on Twitter that he is go to go for this week. He plans to test his ankle later this week, but is expected to play vs the Pats this Sunday. That's good new for us because we're going to need him in order to have any chance at the Razor. The Bills currently are last in the league in passing yards. Hopefully, Sammy can be a big contributor this week and help us to beat another top 3 team in the league.

BillsFan11, "Tyrod is Michael Vick in his prime? You're saying he needs to play like Michael Vick in his prime, or he is like him? Cause Vick was unbelievable when in his prime." I think Tyrod has the potential be just like Vick in his prime......and that is truly saying something because Vick was a top notch athlete and standout QB in his day. The Bills obviously think so too since they signed him to his most recent big money contract. Is he Vick in his prime now?? Probably not. He has a lot to prove, but he certainly has the athletic ability, speed, and arm strength to be just like Mike. I've seen flashes. One thing they do have in common for sure is that both played QB at VA Tech and were big time playmakers in college. The key is for OC A. Lynn to put Tyrod in situations where he can win with his feet because he's not your prototypical drop back passer NFL QB. I think most teams would prefer to have a prototypical NFL QB, but when you don't have that player you have to find ways to succeed with what you do have. With Tyrod, I think you have to consider moving the pocket more often than you usually would with a proto NFL QB because when he's outside of the pocket he's not contained and now he's capable of being a dangerous runner. Someone who can take it to the house, which most NFL QBs can't do. Most LBs are not going to be able to track him once he has broken contain. Tyrod is especially dangerous when he's out of the pocket because the defense doesn't know if he's going to run or pass the ball at the last second as he approaches the LOS. That is an advantage that Lynn needs to exploit. Rex is counting on Tyrod very heavily to work out for him. If he does, I think Rex will be around for a long time. If he doesn't, that could obviously be a big problem for Rex.

FireRex, I was as disappointed as anybody to see us start out 0-2. Two losses, each less than one score. Time to fire the Head Coach!!!! My guess is that if the Bills can get their core players back soon (guys like Glenn, Watkins, Darby, Dareus, Sh. Lawson, S. Henderson, M. Easley and even C. Anderson and G. Salas) you're going start thinking seriously about changing your super clever pseudo-name. The difference now is that the team is playing with great confidence and motivation. They now know that they can beat one of the best teams in the league. They have an OC that understands that controlling the tempo of a game gives his team an advantage and that Tyrod Taylor is a unique talent who needs to be put in situations where he can win with his feet just as often as with his arm. My main point of contention with you is that I think it would be very unwise to try to blow up the team by firing Rex based upon three 2016 games. Rex has shown that he can coach an NFL team into the playoffs (he's proven in that regard) so he needs to be given the benefit of the doubt until he at least gets his core players back on the field for a few games, if not for the entire 2016 season. Firing the HC is always a risky proposition. You fire Rex and there's no guarantee that the Bills will be able to hire somebody better. Prospective proven NFL HCs are not exactly crazy about applying for the Bills' HC gig. Starting from scratch will set this team back another three years.
-
So now you expect the Bills to beat the Pats in NE or Rex is a horrible HC?? I mean c'mon man. The rest of the league can't beat the Pats, but the Bills have to in order to vindicate Rex. It's just unfortunate for the Bills that they have had to deal with HOF HCs within their division for so many years. First it was D. Shula. Then B. Parcells. And now B. Belichick. The point of this thread was simply to point out that Rex Ryan is a very capable NFL HC. Capable of beating the very best that the NFL has to offer. Even with the deck stacked against him (i.e. with so many of his best players out), he managed to beat one of the top three teams in the entire league. The Bills controlled the game from the beginning. Rex's defense forced five 3-and-outs in a row to start the game against a very high scoring team with probably the best play caller in the league. It was Rex Ryan vs Bruce Arians and Rex won.......and it wasn't even close. It's easy......extremely easy.............to say the Bills suck, the coach sucks, fire the coach. But firing the coach means starting from scratch and I really don't want to do that at this point. if this team can get back the vital players that I mentioned above and soon they can make a run at the playoffs with Rex as the HC. Hey FireRex, why don't you ask Carson Palmer what he thinks of Rex Ryan's defense???
-
FireRex, you're obviously not a Rex Ryan fan as your pseudo name would imply. Please read Observation #1 once again and let it sink in a lil. No NFL HC is ever going to blame losing games because he has had to go to war without so many of his best players. I just thought I would point it out for those of you who don't pay much attention to such things. To beat the mighty Cards WITHOUT Watkins, Glenn, Dareus, Darby, et al????? Seriously????!!!!!!
-
Just when we all had left the Bills for dead they play one of the best games in their history. Howie Long had the Cards as a lock to win vs the Bills. My observations regarding Tyrod Taylor: I don't care what anybody says, Tyrod needs to run the ball. Not necessarily on a designated running play, but there needs to be some read-option plays and when he goes back to pass he needs to take off and run when it's there. I'd even has a called play to send 5 receivers deep and let him run it. His best weapon is his feet!! Tyrod is not the type of QB to throw for 300+ yds on a regular basis, but he can get you 200+ yds passing and 80-90 yds rushing. To me, Tyrod is Michael Vick when he was in his prime. And that's how he needs to play. If he plays that way the Bills are capable of beating anybody. They just proved it by beating the Cards, probably a top 3 team in the entire league. Other observations: 1. The Bills beat the Card minus Watkins, Glenn, Darby, Dareus, S. Henderson, Sh. Lawson, C. Anderson, G. Salas, and M. Easley (plus M. Lawson, K. Williams). That's pretty unbelievable. 2. They should get Watkins, Glenn, Darby, Anderson, and Salas back vs NE this week and then Dareus and Henderson back for Week #5 and Sh. Lawson and M. Easley back for Week #7. 3. Rex and his coaching staff outcoached Arians and his. 4. Lynn made a difference as the new OC. Changing the tempo really helped. 5. The Bills players played with a lot of confidence and motivation for this game. 6. S A. Williams is back. He looked weak in the first two games, but he was back to his dominant self in this game. Great to see!! 7. K. Williams, Graham, and Gilmore really stood out. 8. McCoy can be a real difference-maker when he wants to be. 9. The O-line was dominant. 10. Rex's defensive pressured Palmer well with some complex schemes. I especially enjoyed when Graham and D. Williams blitzed from the left side to sack Palmer. 11. There is real hope that Rex can turn things around. Firing Roman and making Lynn the new OC was a bold move, but it looks like it was a brilliant one. Lynn seems to understand the players better and that changing the tempo of the game is a good way to help his team.
