  1. This is exciting stuff!! It's kind of ironic that we're talking about trading back so that other teams can land their franchise QB when we're not even sure if we have one for ourselves. That being said, I think putting Taylor in a better offensive system under Dennison just might make him unstoppable. I'd like to see if we could trade down just a few spots initially (possibly with Cleveland at #12 or Arizona at #13) and then make the big move to #25 with Houston or even #27 with KC. Houston is the most obvious trade partner because they are in desperate need of a starting QB. How about this potential scenario...... SCENARIO #1 1. No QBs selected #1-#9. Bills get a R5 pick for losing RB Gillislee to Pats. 2. Buff trades #10 to Arizona (who finds itself in a bidding war with Cleveland to land Trubisky) for #13 plus R2, R6, and CB P. Peterson. 3. Bills now have the following 9 picks: R1 (#13) R2 R2 (Ariz.) R3 R5 R5 R5 R6 R6 (Ariz.) 4. Cleveland selects QB D. Watson at #12. 5. Buff trades #13 to Houston for #25 plus a R2, R7, and Houston's R1 in 2018. Houston selects QB P. Mahomes at #13. 6. Bills now have the following 11 picks: R1 (#25) R2 R2 (Ariz.) R2 (Hou.) R3 R5 R5 R5 R6 R6 (Ariz.) R7 (Hou.). 7. Bills select LB H. Reddick at #25 and have also added CB P. Peterson.
  2. This is the kind of draft that you can expect to see from the Bills. They need multiple guys who can contribute right away so you can expect them to trade down at least once, if not more. That means that we're probably going to be drafting some non-high profile players.
  3. Like I said, the OP's mock draft success is mostly dependent upon how good Webb turns out to be. I say that he won't turn out to be more productive than Taylor, and thus, would not overtake him. If you're going to draft a QB then select one of the top four and hope that one of them turns into a franchise QB. If not, then resign yourself to the fact that Taylor is your guy (at least for this year) and then take a flyer on a guy late in the draft (i.e. someone like Dobbs or Kelly). Both Dobbs and Kelly could end being just as good as Webb, if not better.
  4. That mock totally depends upon how good QB Webb turns out to be. I'm not overly impressed by him. he not likely to overtake Taylor. There's no sense in drafting a QB unless he can eventually supplant Taylor. I don't like the Clemson LB either. He's too small and too slow for the NFL. He might be okay as a 3-4 ILB. The Bills will be looking for speed, speed, speed at LB for this new 4-3 scheme. I too expect the Bills to look to trade down at least once in R1, if not twice. If they're not enamored with any of the top four QBs then there is no reason for them to stay at #10 overall. That's because they could trade down to as low as #17, pick up probably two more picks, and still get a very good player at #17. They have certain needs that MUST be filled in order for the team to be competitive in 2017. Most of those needs are on defense. In my estimation they need two CBs, a S, at least one LB (depending upon where Alexander plays). They could really use an impact player on the D-line as well. On offense, they can probably get by with what they have at QB (Taylor/Yates/Jones), but will likely take a late round flyer on someone like Dobbs or even Kelly. I think the O-line is fine with the likes of Glenn/Incognito/Wood/Miller/Kouandjio/Mills/Ducasse/Groy/Henderson. I'd like to see an impact player at TE and WR. Clay needs someone to push him at TE. Watkins can't be trusted to stay healthy for very long. If he could, then there wouldn't be such a great need at WR. Holmes, C. Brown, Butler, Powell, Tate are all capable players. Listenbee could be a nice surprise.
  5. Section 122, sorry I listed Glenn as "Parker" as in "Glenn Parker". Giving away my age I guess in referencing the former Bills OG/OT.
  6. I've seen Tru projected all over the board...from #1 to #6 to #10 to #31. It's amazing how there's very little agreement about whether he's a top five pick or even a top 10 pick. We, the fans, don't get the opportunity to meet with a QB prospect like Tru, to talk to him, to see him work out in person, to talk to his former teammates and coaches, etc. We must instead rely upon the Bills' scouting to do their due diligence and then make an infirmed decision. This is a BIG DEAL folks!! We're talking about a potential franchise QB here........someone who could be a real difference-maker.......someone who could help to make us a competitive team and a playoff team once again. I would prefer to trade back and obtain more picks in this particular draft while going with Taylor as our starting QB. However, if the Bills believe that Tru is the real deal......and he could be........then I would not be opposed to selecting him at #10 or even moving up to #5 ahead of NYJ to get him. Having witnessed NFL drafts since the 1970s I can't help thinking that this could also be a big smokescreen in order to force teams like Cleveland (at #12), Arizona (at #13), and Houston (late R1) to strongly consider "giving up the ranch" to be able to select Trubisky (or the preferred QB prospect of their choice) at #10. Most NFL people seem to view Tru as a mid to late R1 pick.
  7. With the 2017 Draft coming soon here's the current status of the Bills: Offense: QB: Taylor RB: McCoy FB: DiMarco TE: Clay WR: Watkins/Holmes O-Line: Kouandjio/Incognito/Wood/Miller/Parker Defense: DE: Sh. Lawson/Hughes DT: Dareus/K. Williams LB: Ragland/Alexander/P. Brown CB: Darby/Seymour S: Hyde/Poyer Special Teams: K: Hauschka P: Schmidt LS: Ferguson KR: Tate/C. Brown PR: Tate/Hyde/C. Brown Offense: Under a new regime, McD and Dennison may be willing to give Kouandjio a shot at LT or they may decide to play Mills/Ducasse at RT. I happen to think that the O-Line is best with Kouandjio at LT. There is plenty of talent already on offense. Adding a dynamic WR and/or TE would make this offense special. Taylor running the Denver offense should be exciting because the blocking scheme is the best in the league. The designed QB bootlegs and rollouts will put Taylor in advantageous situations. Now if only McCoy, Watkins, and Clay can stay healthy for the majority of this year. Defense: A new, simplified scheme should allow the players to play fast and be much more effective. Sh. Lawson and R. Ragland are basically new additions this year since neither was able to contribute much last year. Alexander will be moved around and should be a big asset. Hyde was a very nice addition, given his leadership qualities and ability to play CB, S, and cover the slot receiver. Beyond that, there are definite holes that need to be filled, specifically at CB, S, and LB. Adding another pass rusher would be nice as well. Special Teams: Hauschka had a rough year last year, but he is still a standout kicker with a superb long distance leg capable of kicking 60 yd FGs. He's a definite upgrade over Carpenter and could win some close games for the Bills this year. Schmidt is a top notch punter and Ferguson is a capable LS. Tate is a solid KR/PR who doesn't make many mistakes. Hyde and Ph. Brown add some homerun capabilities to the return game. Given the above here are the Bills' needs by priority: 1A. CB - They need at least two to add to Darby, Seymour, and Coleman. 1B. LB - They need at least two to add to Ragland, Alexander, P. Brown, and Humber. 2. S - They need two to add to Hyde, Poyer, and Anderson. Re-sign C. Graham on the cheap. he can play S, CB, and ST. 3. WR - Ideally someone with better than average height and speed to add to Watkins, Holmes, C. Brown, Listenbee, and Tate. J. Butler and W. Powell may or may not offer some depth. 4. TE - Having two high quality TEs who can both block and receive is rare these days. How about just getting someone better than O'Leary?? 5. DT - Quality depth is needed to add to Dareus, K. Wiliams, Washington, and Worthy. 6. QB - This isn't such a high priority anymore, but we may see the Bills take a late round flyer on a Josh Dobbs or Chad Kelly.
  8. Yes. It's a no-brainer to move down from #10 to obtain more picks. The only way that I wouldn't do it would be if Trubisky is available at #10 and I thought that he was a franchise type QB. NFL Scouts BTW don't seem to think so.
  9. The drama of the draft will begin when the run on QBs begins. Will it start at #1, at #2, at #3, at #6, at #10?? I expect Trubisky to be the first QB to be drafted. SF could take him at #2. Chicago could take him at #3. There is even talk that Cleveland may forego selecting M. Garrett and take Trubisky at #1. Cleveland's HC wants Trubisky. The Cleveland hierarchy is not sold on him. He knows that he probably won't get him at #12. He could either convince the Cleveland hierarchy to take Trubisky at #1 or take Garrett at #1 and then trade up from #12 to get him. If Trubisky is still on the board when the Bills select at #10 you can bet the house that Cleveland will be offering a king's ransom to the Bills to obtain the #10 pick. That's when things will get really interesting.
  10. I see Garrett, Allen, Solomon, and Adams as elite players. These guys will be standout players 5-10 years from now. Who really knows regarding Trubisky, Watson, Mahomes, and Kizer?? I like Mahomes the best long term, but even he is no sure thing. Howard is in the next tier of elite players after the four mentioned above. He can be an asset in the running game and in the passing game. He had 200 yds receiving vs Clemson in the National Championship game. That's an elite TE my friends. NE is famous for utilizing TEs in their offense. They do it because by utilizing multiple TEs they can keep the opposing defense guessing. But they already have their franchise QB. I happen to think that there will be a run on QBs in R1, but at what point is anyone's guess.
  11. This Mock 2.0 is much more likely. I see that you now have Garrett, Solomon, Allen, and Adams in the top 10. I think the Bills will go either defense or QB if they stay at #10 overall. I would love to see S J. Adams slip to #10 overall, but the only way that I see that happening is if there is a run on QBs prior to #10. If the Bills could get one of the four players mentioned above they would be getting one of the four players that will truly standout 5-10 years from now. More likely, all four will be gone by #10 and the Bills will be faced with choosing between either LB Foster, a QB (Trubisky and Watson will likely be gone) or trading down. Given that scenario, the best option IMHO would be to trade down with Cleveland (at #12) or Arizona (at #13) to obtain a package of picks and then select either LB Foster or possibly QB Mahomes, who I think could be the next B. Favre or A. Rodgers.
  12. It's a piss poor mock draft. Why?? Because Solomon, Allen, and Adams are all marquee players along with Garrett. There's no way that all four are not drafted in the top 10. If Adams slips to #10 to the Bills I'll be a monkey's uncle.
  13. I believe that there are four QBs that will be highly sought after in R1 of this year's draft. Namely, Trubisky, Kizer, Watson, and Mahomes..........not necessarily in that order. Teams like SF, Chicago, NYJ, Cleveland, and Arizona are all in the market for a potential franchise QB. BTW, I think the Bills would like to draft a QB, but will likely pass on any QB in R1 since they have T. Taylor. That means that like any other position that is not very deep, once the run begins teams tend to panic and make a move to fill their need. Well the QB position is no different. If say NYJ decides to take Trubisky at #6 we may see teams like Cleveland and Arizona looking to move up to grab one of the three remaining QBs mentioned above. That would play right into the Bills' hands. Those teams may be willing to part with much more than they normally would to move up to #10 overall because: 1. A potential franchise QB is hard to come by. 2. The competition amongst teams willing to move up could and likely would drive up the price. IMHO, this would be the best case scenario for a Bills team that has a whole lot of needs to fill.
  14. Normally I would say "no way", but Fournette is built like a freight train and has good speed. He definitely could become Adrian Peterson in his prime. That would be a pretty dominant asset for the offense. If the Bills do that then they would likely need to trade McCoy. The question then becomes, "what could they get for him?" If they could get at least a R2 pick you might want to consider it, especially since McCoy isn't getting any younger. That all aside, the best bet for the Bills would be to trade down with Cleveland or Arizona and pick up additional picks/players to give them the right to select a QB in R1. There's a good chance that there will be a run on QBs beginning with the #6 overall pick. The Bills should be able to take advantage of that run.
  15. We don't need Gilmore, Woods or Brown. Gilmore is not an elite CB and can be replaced. Woods is a possession WR who can't seem to stay healthy for very long. I would have liked to have had Z. Brown back, but he doesn't fit the new defensive scheme very well so he too is replaceable. Based upon what the Bills' roster looks like right now I can see why the OP feels disheartened. However, there is still a lot of time to right the ship and a lot of moves that can still be made to make this team competitive this year (i.e. better than 8-8). Our biggest problem is that we have to try to beat the Patriots twice this year.
  16. Kelly will be drafted. It's ridiculous to say that he won't be drafted. Some team will definitely take a chance on him because: 1. He's just too talented. 2. He's had excellent production against top flight talent. 3. He's got good size at 6'-2" and 215 lbs. 4. He's got a big-time arm and he's mobile. 5. He's got the Kelly pedigree. I project that he'll be selected in R4 or R5. If the Bills can get him in R5 it would be a huge steal.
  17. The bottom line is that Chad Kelly is a very talented QB w/ some baggage. B. Polian has stated that he is the MOST TALENTED QB is this year's draft. That's a wow statement if there ever was one. He also happens to be Jim Kelly's nephew. Even with T. Taylor in the fold the Bills could still stand to acquire a franchise QB. The question is, do the Bills take a chance on Kelly, and if so, in what round?? I happen to think that P. Mahomes is the best QB in this draft and will prove it in future years. Thus, I recommend that they draft him if possible. He will likely be drafted anywhere from mid R1 to early R2. If they can't get Mahomes (by either trading down in R1 or keeping their R1 pick and trading back into R1), then I suggest they take a long look at Kelly, who will likely be drafted anywhere from early R4 to late R6, mostly because of his baggage, not his talent.
  18. Except the Bills WILL be make some trades. It's the best way for MickeyD to get his type of players, dontcha know.
  19. The Bills will need to be creative in this draft if they hope to be competitive this year. If they just straight select where they are now with just 6 picks (like B. Nix liked to do) I don't think they'll come away with enough good players to even come close to fulfilling their needs. Since draft picks are cheap compared to signing FAs it makes sense for them to try to trade back in this draft several times... as long as they get good value. The #10 overall pick has great value and will be highly sought after.....esp. if a team drafting behind us is in love with a certain player. It could be a guy that they view as a franchise QB for instance. I don't think I would trade down from #10 to #26 right away. I'd want to do something in between...just in case a great player falls to us. The #10 for #26 plus a R2, R3, R3 would certainly be very tough to turn down....esp. since those high picks would give us more valuable resources to trade down even further. I think we can expect the Bills to trade down quite a bit in this draft because: 1. They are a team that needs a lot of good players rather than one great player. 2. Their cap situation has forced the issue.
  20. I think we can fully expect the Bills to draft a QB this year. However, I don't think they will select a QB at #10 overall. I could see a no. of scenarios play out depending upon who is drafted in front of them in R1. If there is a player that they believe is a true star, a difference-maker, a special talent, then they will likely draft that player at #10 overall. If not, I think they will seek to trade down, but they're only going to trade down if they can get really good value. I think it may work out that they select the BPA at #10 and then trade back into the latter part of R1 to select a QB. I happen to like QB P. Mahomes and I think he may still be available at that point. I think the Bills know that they need to find a good young QB to develop behind Taylor and they will seek to draft one without giving up the farm.
  21. You can't put Sammy to good use when he's never healthy enough to be on the field. He's a great talent, but he's teetering on complete bust material at this point until he proves otherwise. And to think, Whaley only used two R1 picks and a R4 pick to get him. :{
  22. If the Bills stay at #10 overall in R1 they will select TE OJ Howard. I think he's a top 5 talent and is the type of player that only comes along once every ten years. He would greatly help the running game and would provide a matchup nightmare in the passing game. He would be the perfect complement to Taylor/McCoy/DiMarco/Clay/Watkins or Taylor/McCoy/Clay/Watkins/Holmes. I completely agree that both CB and LB are big needs, but you can't pass on great players in the draft when they fall in your lap. The draft is very deep at CB....and also at LB to a lesser degree. The Bills will draft those positions in later rounds for sure.
  23. This is so great info to know. Thanks!! Regarding Gilmore, I think he's very inconsistent. Does he have the potential to play like a Pro Bowl CB?? Yes. Does he?? IMHO, only about 50% of the time. I've seen him have some very bad games in coverage. The first game vs the Jets this year comes to mind. I also think he can be a liability vs the run. He is more slightly built compared to many CBs in the league and doesn't seem to relish tackling. If I were an opposing OC I would run the ball to his side early and often.
  24. The more you know about Howard the more you will like about him. He is by far the best TE in this draft. He played for Alabama. He is 6'-6" and 255 lbs. He is put together. He is a very good receiver, but also a very good blocker. Making the case for drafting Howard at #10 overall: I would actually prefer that the Bills seek to trade down in R1 (maybe even multiple times) to obtain additionally picks because they have so many holes, but that would greatly depend upon who they could still get in R1. They have a major hole at CB and have major depth problems all around. But a guy like Howard doesn't come around very often. Howard could actually be more valuable than a big WR (like Davis or Williams) because he would be more of a help in the running game. Having Howard and Clay on the field at the same time would NOT ONLY help to bolster the run game, but would ALSO give the offense the opportunity to be much more deceptive and unpredictable. There's a lot to be said for that. I'm surprised that more teams don't take this approach on offense because it is exactly what the Patriots do.....and you have seen the success that they have had with it. The bottom line is that Howard is a difference-maker and absolutely worthy of the #10 pick overall. He would do wonders for Taylor the Bills' offense. The Bills would need to weigh that option vs the haul that they might otherwise acquire by trading down in R1 because will certainly coming calling when it's time to select at #10 overall.
  25. Cutler would certainly be an upgrade over Manuel. He may actually push Taylor for the starting job. He may see Buffalo as one of the best places for him to become a starter again......even if it's not right away. I think it would be a no-brainer to sign him....maybe a 2 year deal at $4m/yr average. At least we would have two legit NFL QBs and wouldn't have to draft a QB this year. The benefits of that are as follows: 1. We could then trade down in R1 (maybe even several times) to acquire more picks to fill more holes. 2. We would have more time to see how C. Jones develops as a young QB. He may turn out to be a pretty good player, which would preclude the need to use a high draft pick on another young player. I think Cutler's familiarity with Dennison and the fact that the Bills are not completely sold on Taylor yet could be the deciding factor for Cutler ultimately deciding to sign with the Bills.
