How much have Bills improved??
ChanOverChin replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I absolutely agree that for the Wildcat to have any success you have to have the threat of the pass, which means that you actually have to throw the ball out of the Wildcat formation in order for then opposing LBs to respect it. You need to throw it even if the passes aren't successful. The last thing that a LB wants is to have B. Smith throw the ball over his head as he's running with the ball towards the LOS. -
How much have Bills improved??
ChanOverChin replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Keep in mind the point I was making revolved around the players that missed most of the season last year that should be available and able to make a big impact this year. Spiller wasn't one of those players. I certainly expect big things from him this year. T. Choice was one of those players. Gailey loves what Choice brings to the table. He runs hard, catches the ball out of the backfield very well, and is another solid veteran RB to add to the mix. J. White is a just a big huge question mark as a RB, although not a bad ST player. Choice is going to make the team over White for those reasons. The list above is almost a listing of all new players being added to this year's roster since guys like K. Williams, for instance, missed so many games. Just getting K. Williams back for good is a huge upgrade. eball has explained above why B. Smith is bound to make a much bigger impact this year. New QB Coach, Mark Lee, is the inventor of the Wilcat so you can bet that he is going to find ways to best use Smith. That can only help make the Bills' offense tougher to deal with. As Gailey has said himself, just having the Wildcat in your arsenal forces the opposing to team to spend time preparing for it, which means they can't spend as much time preparing for the regular offense. -
Players added for 2012 season: 2012 Draft picks: CB Gilmore CB Brooks OLB Bradham MLB Carder LT Glenn LT/RT Sanders OC Asper WR Graham K Potter Significant 2012 Free Agents: DE Mario Williams DE Mark Anderson QB A. Corp QB A. Tanney SS Howell Beyond these additions, the following players missed significant time last year, but should be able to be key contributors this year if they can stay healthy: RB F. Jackson RB T. Choice TE L. Smith WR M. Easley WR D. Jones WR D. Hagan OC E. Wood DT K. Williams DT T. Troup DT D. Edwards DE S. Merriman MLB K. Sheppard OLB K. Morrison SS/OLB B. Scott CB T. McGee CB A. Williams That's 9 + 5 + 16 = 30 players + 1 (B. Smith - who was greatly underutilized last year, but won't be this year) = 31 players who could either make significant contributions this year or provide a noticeable upgrade in depth at their respective position. From the group of 31 players that I've mentioned above, here are the players that should contribute the most, ultimately leading the Bills to double digit wins and a 2012 playoff berth: DEFENSE: Mario Williams M. Anderson Gilmore K. Willams A. Williams S. Merriman K. Sheppard T. Troup K. Morrison B. Scott OFFENSE: RB F. Jackson RB T. Choice TE L. Smith WR M. Easley C. Glenn E. Wood Special Teams: Brooks (ST) Graham (ST) Bradham (ST) Carder (ST) Howell (ST)

Projected 53 man roster with some tough choices: QB: Fitz/Young/Smith RB: Jackson/Spiller/Choice FB: McIntyre TE: Chandler/Smith WR: Johnson/Nelson/Graham/Easley/Hagan/(B. Smith)/Martin OT: Glenn/Hairston/Pears/Sanders OG: Levitre/Urbik/Rheinhart OC: Wood/(Urbik) LS: Sanborn K: Lindell P: Moorman DE: M. Williams/Anderson/Merriman/Kelsay/Moats DT: K. Williams/Dareus/Edwards/Johnson/Troup/Carrington OLB: Barnett/Morrison/Bradham/Scott/(Moats) MLB: Sheppard/Carder CB: A. Williams/Gilmore/Florence/Brooks/McKelvin/McGee SS: Wilson/Howell FS: Byrd/Searcy Young vs Thigpen - Young is a much better athlete and someone that Gailey could make into a productive player. Thigpen is a very poor NFL QB. Choice vs J. White - Choice runs hard and is a weapon out of the backfield. White hasn't shown much as a RB, but can play ST. L. Smith vs vet FA - Smith is mostly just a blocker who isn't much of a receiver. Vet FA TEs Shiancoe or Scaife would be better options. Hagan/Jones/Easley vs Martin - All 3 will be in danger of being cut if Bills prefer Martin's ST prowess. Easley/Hagan stay. Jones has aligator arms. B. Smith plays WR too. Ideally, the Bills pickup a vet WR since Hagan and Martin are average WRs and Easley is a big question mark. Asper vs C. Brown vs Jasper - The best backup OC makes the team, which leaves Jasper out in the cold. Bills elect to cut all three and utilize Urbik as their backup OC. Carrington vs Heard vs K. Moore - Carrington has the greatest upside and can play both DT and DE. Enough said. C. White vs B. Scott - Scott covers TEs from the LB position and can play SS. Scott stays. Ideally, the Bills seek to add a vet LB to their LB corp as well. McGee vs McKelvin vs Rogers - Very tough call. I'm going with McGee and McKelvin for now because they have more experience. Both should be better with a much improved pass rush. Howell vs ?? - Howell is my surprise pick to make the final roster based upon his smarts and toughness. He's an outstanding ST player. Bills need a backup SS as well. The Bills are already looking to add Young to upgrade their backup QB position. Will they seek to upgrade their WR/TE/LB positions via FA as well??

Will Moats make the team?
ChanOverChin replied to Buffalodave83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Moats will make it based pon his pass rush ability alone. I don't know how well he fits into the 4-3 type OLB, but he can certainly be used as a situational pass rusher. I expect that our DEs will be Mario Williams, M. Anderson, S. merriman, C. Kelsay, and A. Moats with moats being used primarily as a third down pass rushing specialist to spell the other four at times. The Bills may also use more than two of the five mentioned above in obvious passing situations, much like the Giants like to do. Guys who can get to the QB are too hard to find, which is why I expect the Bills to find a spot for Moats on the final roster. -
As of 4-28-12, here is our best 53 man roster: QB (3): Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tyler Thigpen, Brad Smith RB (3): Fred Jackson, CJ Spiller, Tashard Choice FB (1): Corey McIntyre WR (6): Stevie Johnson, David Nelson, Donald Jones, TJ Graham, Derek Hagan, Marcus Easley TE (1): Scott Chandler (David Nelson) OT (4): Chris Hairston, Erik Pears, Cordy Glenn, Zebrie Sanders OG (4): Andy Levitre, Chad Rinehart, Kraig Urbik, Mark Asper OC (2): Eric Wood, Colin Brown -- DE (4): Mario Williams, Mark Anderson, Shawne Merriman, Chris Kelsay, (Arthur Moats) DT (5): Marcel Dareus, Kyle Williams, Torrell Troup, Dwan Edwards, Spencer Johnson, Carrington OLB (3): Nick Barnett, Kirk Morrison, Nigel Bradham,(Bryan Scott) ILB (3): Kelvin Sheppard, Tank Carder, Chris White CB (6): Aaron Williams, Stephon Gilmore, Terrence McGee, Drayton Florence, Leodis McKelvin, Ron Brooks, S (4): Jairus Byrd, George Wilson, Bryan Scott, Da'Norris Searcy (Ron Brooks) -- ST (3): Rian Lindell, Brian Moorman, Garrison Sanborn Important Notes: 1. This team is pretty darn good as is. There is a lot more depth this year when compared to last year. 2. Ideally, we need a better backup QB to replace Thigpen. If Fitz goes down we'll be in trouble. 2. Ideally, we could use another proven TE. Visante Shiancoe and Bo Scaife are both available. 3. WR Martin is a stud on ST so he could push his way onto the roster ahead of one of the WRs. 4. A. Moats is a pretty good pass rusher in obvious passing situations. He makes the team for that reason. 5. We're a little thin a LB with only six. B. Scott doubles as a safety and cover LB so he makes seven. However, it might be wise to replace C. White with a vet LB. How about somebody like James Farrior?? 6. I love what the Bills did to bolster their O-line, but it might be wise to sign proven LT Marcus McNeil to tutor the young LTs and help keep Fitz healthy for one year. Here would be our roster with a few proposed, realistic changes: QB (3): Ryan Fitzpatrick, Colt McCoy, Brad Smith RB (3): Fred Jackson, CJ Spiller, Tashard Choice FB (1): Corey McIntyre WR (6): Stevie Johnson, David Nelson, TJ Graham, Derek Hagan, Marcus Easley, Martin. TE (1): Scott Chandler, Visante Shiancoe (David Nelson) OT (4): Marcus McNeil, Chris Hairston, Erik Pears, Cordy Glenn, Zebrie Sanders OG (4): Andy Levitre, Chad Rinehart, Kraig Urbik OC (2): Eric Wood, Colin Brown -- DE (4): Mario Williams, Mark Anderson, Shawne Merriman, Chris Kelsay, (Arthur Moats) DT (5): Marcel Dareus, Kyle Williams, Torrell Troup, Dwan Edwards, Spencer Johnson OLB (3): Nick Barnett, James Farrior, Kirk Morrison, Nigel Bradham,(Bryan Scott) ILB (3): Kelvin Sheppard, Tank Carder CB (6): Aaron Williams, Stephon Gilmore, Terrence McGee, Drayton Florence, Leodis McKelvin, Ron Brooks, S (4): Jairus Byrd, George Wilson, Bryan Scott, Da'Norris Searcy (Ron Brooks) -- ST (3): Rian Lindell, Brian Moorman, Garrison Sanborn Notes: I replaced players on the above roster as follows: 1. QB McCoy for Thigpen. Word is that McCoy may be traded. 2. LT McNeil for Asper. Proven vet LT needed more than rookie backup OG. 3. WR Martin for D. Jones. Martin needed for ST. I like Hagan better than D. Jones. 4. LB Farrior for C. White. Proven vet LB could help show the way for the younger LBs. 4. TE Shiancoe for Carrington. I don't like cutting Carrington, but the Bills need a second TE more than they need a sixth DT. Your thoughts??

I don't see the Bills trading for Umenyoria because of his age and the large salary that he will demand. The Bills already have M. Williams/Anderson/Merriman/Kelsay and their hefty salaries.

Wannstedt = Difference-maker!!
ChanOverChin replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The point is that it took someone with the know how and experience of a Wannstedt to bring a simplified approach to the Bills that he knows will work. Last year, the Bills didn't know what alignment they were playing on defense. They played a lot of everything and that just doesn't work because too many guys are thinking about their assignments rather than just reacting to what's in front of them. Wannstedt has greatly simplified things by going to the 4-3 and basically asking his front four to pressure the QB and occupany blockers for the linebackers. But that alone wasn't enough. He still had to have Gailey have enough confidence in him to make the move back to the 4-3 and believe in Wanny enough to ask the front office to spend $100M plus on two guys who can rush the passer from the DE position. Wannstedt may not be a HOF coach, but he's respected by the players and he's been around the NFL long enough to know what works and what doesn't. He understands the importance of keeping things simple so that players can use their God-given ability to its fullest. We don't need a HOF coach to make it to the playoffs and actually win the Super Bowl. But we do need coaches who have a wealth of NFL experience and know how to be able to put players in the best possible situations to succeed. I think the Bills have that now with both Gailey and Wanny. -
Gailey to Wannstedt in the off-season: "You've been around the NFL a long time, so what's it going to take to get us into the playoffs in 2012"?? Wannstedt: "Two things. A four man front that can not only pressure the QB, but also get sacks and cause turnovers all by itself AND an experienced Defensive Coordinator who can run the 4-3 to perfection". Gailey: "You're the closest thing to filling the second item. Would you consider the Bills' DC gig"?? Wannstedt: "Only if you'll allow me to do things my way. And that means going out and getting not one but two pass rushing DEs" to team with Kyle and Marcel". Gailey: "Let's get it done"!!

There's talk that Kalil could slide out of the top 10.
ChanOverChin replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills would take Kalil in a heartbeat at #10 overall. What a Godsend that would be for the Bills. -
I think the Bills can get Keuchly at #10. If they trade out of that spot I think they would be taking a calculated risk. the Cowboys are known to covet S M. Barron who is quickly rising up draft boards because he's believed to be a dominant SS and the talent at S drops off sharply after he gets drafted. Thus, teams in need of a difference-maler at S are likely to overpay to get him. I think Barron will be a top 10-12 pick. A team from the back of the line (i.e. not in the top 12) will likely trade up to get him. there appear to be two players that teams are willing to trade up to get: QB Tannehil and S Barron. Bills fans should pray that these two guys last until the #10 pick because there will definitely be teams offering to trade up to obtain these guys. because Tannehil is a QB, I don't think that he'll get past the #8 spot, but barron could make it to #10 and that would put the Bills in an enviable position.
-
The Bills have solidifed their D-line, but are desperate for a 3 down LB to play in their new 4-3 defense along with fellow LBs Barnett, Sheppard, Morrison, and Moats. Keuchly could start ahead of Morrison as an OLB along with Sheppard and Barnett. Keuchly's versatility and productivity at a position of great need gives the Bills the most bang for the buck. The only question is, do the Bills take Keuchly at #10 overall or do they roll the dice and trade back a few spaces to pick up more picks and THEN take Keuchly?? The Bills won't take an OT at #10 overall because the value is not there at that spot, but Keuchly has good value at #10 and even better value at, say, #14 overall. There is a big dropoff at LB after Keuchly so the Bills would be wise to take him when they can. Some think that S M. Barron will be the pick at #10, but the Bills don't need a SS with G. Wilson on the roster. Wilson is viewed as as one of the top two or three safeties in the league so why would the Bills use their #10 pick on him when they have a glaring need at LB. Instead, expect the Bills to use Barron as bait to obtain more picks from teams bidding to obtain his services and then use their pick to draft the versatile Keuchly. I'd like to see a trade back with Dallas for their R1 (#14), R2, and R5 picks. The Cowboys would trade up to Barron, whom they covet very much. The Bills would get LB Keuchly (an instant starter) along with R2 and R5 picks. That would give the Bills the following 12 picks in the 2012 Draft and NINE picks in the first five rounds: R1 (LB Keuchly), R2a, R2b, R3, R4a, R4b, R5a, R5b, R5c, R6, R7a, R7b.
-
Why Barron because Peter King likes him?? Instead, what will likely happen is that the Bills will either take Keuchly at #10 or trade down and then take Keuchly.

DrD's Mock Draft and 53 Man Roster
ChanOverChin replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nice job. Well done. I'd like to see the Bills draft as follows: QB-1 R4-Cousins (desperately need a real QB behind Fitz to develop) WR-1 R1-Blackmon LT-1 R2-(need a starter) OC/OG-1 R6-(need a backup OC) TE-1 R7 OLB-1 R3/R7 MLB-1 R5 CB-2 R4/R5-(need bump & run cover guys) My 53 man roster: QB: Fitz/Cousins/B. Smith RB: Jackson/Spiller/Choice FB: McIntyre TE: Chandler/L. Smith WR: Blackmon/S. Johnson/Nelson/Hagan/Easley LT: R2/Hairston OG: Levitre/Urbik/Rheinhart OC: Wood/R6 RT: Pears/Young K/P/LS: Lindell/Moorman/Sanborn DE: M. Williams/Anderson/Merriman/Kelsay/Carrington/(Moats) DT: K. Williams/Dareus/Sp. Johnson/D. Edwards/Troup OLB: Barnett/Morrison/R3/Moats MLB: Sheppard/R5/C. White CB: A. Williams/Florence/McGee/McKelvin/R4/R5 S: Wilson/Byrd/Scott/Searcy Bubble players: R7 TE, J. White, Martin, Roosevelt, C. Brown, Jasper, Heard, R7 OLB, J. Rogers. -
I really like the trade down, which is almost a must for the Bills. I'd like to see the Bills get a CB earlier than in R4, however. We could use someone who could compete for a starting spot along with A. Williams, D. Florence, and T. McGee.
-
Here's a look at the 28 Bills players who were on the roster last year, but who missed too many games (either due to injury or possibly weren't quite ready) to make an impact for the 2011 season: Offense: RB: F. Jackson/Spiller/Choice. TE: L. Smith. WR: D. Jones/Easley/Hagan/Roosevelt/Aiken. OT: D. Bell/S. Young. OC: E. Wood. OG: Rheinhart/Jasper. Special Teams: K: R. Lindell. Defense: DT: K. Williams/T. Troup. DE: S. Merriman/K. Moore/Carrington. MLB: K. Sheppard/C. White. OLB: K. Morrison/Batten/Eddins. CB: T. McGee/Rogers/Corner. It's almost like all of these guys are being added to the roster this year because so many of them were not able to contribute in at least half of the games last year. We're talking about possibly having TEN major contributors like F. Jackson, CJ Spiller, K. Williams, S. Merriman, E. Wood, Rheinhart, K. Sheppard, K. Morrison, T. McGee, and Lindell for an entire season unlike last year when so many of them either were injured early on or didn't get to play very much for whatever reason. On top of that there are TEN highly regarded players like M. Easley, T. Troup, Carrington, Rogers, D. Jones, Hagan, C. White, L. Smith, T. Choice, and Batten who could be big contributors this year as well. Add to that free agent pash rushers DE M. Williams and DE M. Anderson. That's a lot of new players for 2012. If the Bills are able to maximize their TEN draft picks to fill their remaining major needs such as LT, CB, OLB, WR, backup QB, backup TE, backup MLB we could be looking at the new AFC East Champion and a definite 2012-2013 playoff contender. While it's unlikely that all of these guys are going to make a positive impact for the Bills this year I think there are enough to put us on a path to the 2012/2013 playoffs.

Bills' Draft Plan to make the 2012 playoffs
ChanOverChin posted a topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the Bills are smart they will continue to stockpile their defense with the best players available to them. With a much greater emphasis on defense (you can already see the positive affect that Coach Wannstedt is having) they can finally knock off the Pats by winning the AFC East and subsequently qualifying for the playoffs. The best possible scenario for the Bills would then be the following: 1. Sign LT D. Bell prior to the draft. He can get the job done at LT and allow the Bills to concentrate on improving the defense. 2. Draft a top notch CB at #10 overall (i.e. D. Fitzpatrick) or even better, trade down a few spots, take the CB at that position and acquire a late R1 pick for our first R4 pick (essentially our R1 (10) & R4 picks for possibly R1 (14) & R1 (27)). We could then do the following: R1 (14) - Draft CB D. Fitpatrick (this fills a big need and gives us more depth at a very important position; quality cover CBs are a must vs NE's receivers). R1 (27) - Claim WR M. Wallace and forfeit the pick to Pittsburgh. This fills another big need and allows Gailey to stretch opposing defenses because of Wallace's trmendous speed and big play ability. The Bills will not be able to obtain a bigger impact player than Wallace for thier offense at this spot. R2 - Draft QB Osweiler. Take best player available and fill another important need (i.e. a solid backup QB and the QB of the future for the Bills). With nine picks the Bills can afford to take a QB at this spot. They need somebody with more talent than Thigpen to develop for the future behind Fitzpatrick. R3 - Draft an OLB. Fills a need. Bills would then have Barnett, Morrison, R3, and Moats at OLB. R4 - Draft a S. Fills a need. More depth/talent is needed at S. R5a - Draft a TE. Fills a need for a second TE to backup Chandler. R5b- Draft a LT. Fills a need for another LT even though Hairston can play LT and RT. Can't have too many guys who can play LT. R6 - Draft a MLB. Fills a need for a backup spot behind Sheppard. Bills would then have Sheppard, C. White, and R6 at MLB. R7 - Draft an OC/OG. Fills a need behind Wood. Even if the Bills don't sign another FA (and it seems more likely that they will), the roster would look like this: Offense - 23 QB: Fitzpatrick/R2/B. Smith. Solid depth and good versatility. Could still sign an undrafted FA QB to develop. RB: F. Jackson/Spiller/Choice. It would be ideal to pick up a big back for short yardage/goal line situations. B. Jacobs is still available. FB: McIntyre. Good FB. Very good ST player. TE: Chandler/R5/(Nelson). Would rather take an extra LB or S than keep TE L. Smith (better depth/better ST) otherwise Smith would be the thrid TE. WR: M. Wallace/St. Johnson/Nelson/Easley/Hagan/(B. Smith). Martin/D. Jones/Hagan fight for fifth WR spot. Martin could win the fifth spot for ST reasons. Tough call at this point. LT: Bell/R5/(Hairston). OG: Levitre/Urbik/Rheinhart. OC: Wood/R7. RT: Pears/Hairston. Special Teams - 3 K/P/LS: Lindell/Moorman/Sanborn. Solid group. Defense - 27 DE: Ma. Williams/M. Anderson/Merriman/Kelsay/(Moats). Moats can be a situational pass rusher. DT: K. Williams/Dareus/D. Edwards/Sp. Johnson/Troup. OLB: Barnett/Morrison/R3/Moats/(B. Scott). MLB: Sheppard/White/R6. CB: A. Williams/R1/Florence/McGee/McKelvin/Rogers. SS: Wilson/R4/Searcy. FS: Byrd/B. Scott. -
Nix is obviously still on the lookout for new talent. He signed WR Buster Davis tonight to add more depth to our WR position. This may have been done as an insurance policy for the oft injured Easley. Davis' talent and 4.4 speed is enticing. Hopefully, there will be more signings on the horizon. The Bills could use a vet OT for sure.

My 53 man Roster as of 8-3-11..... OFFENSE (25): QB (3) Fitzpatrick, Thigpen, Smith (Smith's versatility is huge) RB (3) Jackson, Spiller, White FB (1) McIntyne TE (3) Chandler, S. Nelson (Pistol offense doesn't have much need for a TE; vet TE K. Boss would be a nice addition in place of TE S. Nelson) WR (6) Johnson, Evans, D. Nelson, Parrish, Easley, T. Jones (Jones is a very good ST player) OG (3) Levitre, Urbik, Wrotto, Rheinhart (Bills like Levitre, Urbik, and Rheinhart; Wrotto can play both OG & OT so he gets the nod for now) OT (4) Bell, Pears, Wang, Hairston (there's a big need for a vet OT addition; vet OT addition would replace Wang) C (2) Wood, Handgartner DEFENSE (25): DE (4) Dareus, D. Edwards, Sp. Johnson, Carrington NT (3) Williams, Troup, Jasper OLB (4) Merriman, Kelsay, Moats, Maybin, Batten (Moats will ultimately play OLB because he can contribute this year as a pass rusher; Maybin is better than Coleman; Batten is a young pass rusher with good size who can play OLB and ILB and contribute on ST) ILB (4) Davis, Barnett, Sheppard, Torbor CB (5) Florence, McKelvin, McGee, Williams, Corner SS (4) Whitner, Searcy (I expect Bills to re-sign Whitner) FS (1) Byrd, Wilson SPECIAL TEAMS (3): P (1) Moorman K (1) Lindell LS (1) Sanborn Practice Squad (8): QB L. Brown, RB (from another team), WR Roosevelt, OG/OT Howard, NT Heard, OLB Coleman, ILB C. White, CB Rodgers. Synopsis: I expect the Bills to re-sign SS D. Whitner, add an OT (waive OT Wang and add him to the PS), and add a TE (possibly TE K. Boss, which would cause them to waive TE S. Nelson). TE is not a high priority in the Pistol offense that Gailey runs with Fitzpatrick at QB so keeping only two TEs is not out of the question. Players on the bubble will be S. Nelson, Wrotto, Rheinhart, Wang, and Batten, but lack of high quality competition at their respective positions works in their favor. Not a terrible roster overall if Dareus, Barnett, and Merriman stay healthy all year and contribute like they're capable of. Big needs for the future would be more beef on the D-line and O-line, a franchise QB, and a dominant run-stuffing SS. Your thoughts??

A lot will depend upon how some players perform this Thurs. vs the Lions, but my best guess at the final roster is as follows (with comments): OFFENSE (25) QB: Edwards, Fitzpatrick, Brohm (Fitz has looked good and Brohm can be the third string develpmental guy; L. Brown moves to PS) RB: Spiller, F. Jackson, Lynch, Simpson (Spiller may have earned himself more carries; Simpson is talented and experienced and can return kicks; the Bills will need four RBs if Gailey plans to play his top three as much as he is indicating; Bell moves to PS) FB: McIntyre (he's more than just an ST guy; he can block and catch) TE: Stupar,Foschi,S. Nelson (Nelson won't count for the first four games due to his suspension, which may open a roster spot for Hardy) WR: Evans, Johnson, Parrish, C. Jackson, Hardy, Nelson (Nelson is still not a shoe-in to make the roster, but the numbers are in his favor; Hardy will need to show something vs the Lions) OT: Bell, Green, Meredith, Wang, Chambers OG: Levitre, Wood, Howard, (Chambers) OC: Hangartner, (Wood) SPECIAL TEAMS (3) K: Lindell P: Moorman LS: Sanborn DEFENSE (25) DT: Stroud, Edwards, Carrington, S. Johnson, McCargo (they need to keep at least seven DLs so McCargo barely makes it) NT: K. Williams, Troup OLB: Torbor, Maybin, Kelsay, Ellis, Coleman (Bills should probably take Corto for ST as their 53rd player, but Gailey will likely go with a young player like Coleman that he can try to develop instead) ILB: Mitchell, A. Davis, Posluzsny, Moats CB: McKelvin, McGee, Florence, Youboty, Corner (Lankster gets beat too much) SS: Whitner, Scott FS: Byrd, Wilson. PRACTICE SQUAD QB L. Brown RB J. Bell WR N. Roosevelt OC Gaddis DL Duncan LB D. Woods CB Lankster TE (FA pick up)
-
It's like I said after the 2010 Draft was completed, the Bills are tanking it this year in order to be able to acquire a top 3 pick next year (i.e. the year of the franchise QB!!). They will draft their franchise QB next year with a top 3 pick and then look to shore up the O-line for him next year with veteran players. That appears to be the plan. No way do the Bills compete this year.
-
My prediction for the 53 man roster at this point is as follows: QB - Edwards, Brohm, Fitzpatrick RB - Jackson, Spiller, Lynch, Simpson FB - McIntyre WR - Evans, Johnson, Parrish, Hardy, Jackson, Easley TE - Nelson, Stupar, Schouman OT - Bell, Green, Meredith, Wang OG - Wood, Levitre, Chambers, Calloway C - Hangartner DE - Stroud, Edwards, Carrington, Johnson, McCargo NT - Williams, Troup OLB - Kelsay, Maybin, Torbor, Ellis ILB - Mitchell, Posluszny, Davis, Moats FS - Byrd, Wilson SS - Whitner, Scott CB - McGee, McKelvin, Florence, Corner, Lankster K - Lindell P - Moorman LS - Sanborn PS - Bell, Roosevelt, Nelson, L. Harvey, Batten, D. Woods, T. Brown. Notable Cuts - Schobel, Ellison, Youboty, Corto. Surprise Players: Ch. Jackson, Lankster, Stupar, Calloway. Batten is good enough to make it, but is injured. Woods and Corto could make it for ST purposes if the coaching staff puts a high priority on that. Ch. Jackson, Lankster, and Stupar have stood out in OTAs/camp thus far among the bubble players.

We've definitely got some very good players at LB this year. I'd like to see Schobel play this year just to see how he would perform as an outside pass rushing LB. The Bills will be better with Schobel than without him. Either way, I expect the Bills to take NINE LBs because LB becomes the key position in the 3-4; it also strengthens the ST. With Schobel, LB corps looks like this: OLB: Schobel Kelsay Maybin Torbor (can play OLB and ILB and ST) Moats (better suited for OLB than Batten) ILB: Mitchell Posluzsny Davis Torbor (can play OLB and ILB and ST) Batten (better suited for ILB) That's a very strong group of LBs people. Extras: Ellis Harris Coleman Corto. Without Schobel, LB corps looks like this: OLB: Mitchell Maybin Kelsay Torbor (can play OLB and ILB and ST) Moats (better suited for OLB than Batten) Harris ILB: Posluzsny Davis Torbor (can play OLB and ILB and ST) Batten (better suited for ILB) That's still a pretty strong group of LBs people. Extras: Ellis Coleman Corto.
