Yes, the one and only Bill Cowher. Bill Cowher is easily the best HC choice. But the Bills won't get him unless they offer him the power to make all player personnel decisions. That's because he knows what it takes to win, but won't get there unless he has a strong say in whom to sign, whom to waive, and whom to draft. Taking a chance on all of these no name college coaches that are being bandied about, most of whom have only been successful for a few years and only at the college level, would be a huge, huge mistake. The NFL is a totally different game from that of the college game. It takes NFL experience to succeed at the NFL level. One would be wise to select a HC who has actually succeeded at the NFL level. How about a HC who has actually competed with the likes of B. Belichick and outcoached him/beaten him in an actual NFL game or five????? If N. Saban, probably the best college coach alive, could not succeed at the NFL level, what in the world makes any of you think that all of these current no name guys that are suddenly coming out of the woodwork would?? It's laughable. So very laughable.

Let's face it, the Bills are not going to be a winner as long as R. Wilson owns them. He doesn't know who to hire to run the organization......and that's the all-important first step. Nix has proven to be way in over his head. He's just now thinking about bringing in a franchise QB?? Are you f'n kidding me???? If all of you longtime Bills fans really want the Bills to succeed then Wilson needs to follow this plan: Step 1: Sell the team to somebody who really cares about Buffalo and the Bills, namely Jim Kelly. He'll obtain the financial backing that is required. Step 2: Bring in someone who has been around the NFL for a decade or more as a head coach who has been successful to the point of dominating the competition (i.e. he has a proven formula for winning) as your GM. That person could be Bill Cowher. Let Cowher make the player decisions with the aid of a GM Asst like Doug Whaley, who would perform most of the GM duties in concert with Cohwer. Step 3: Make Cowher the new Head Coach of the Bills as well. Sure he wouldn't take the job before, but now he would be GM and HC with Kelly's and Whaley's support. He would be in charge of all player decisions. He would possibly have the #3 pick overall in the 2013 draft to boot to help rebuild the Bills HIS way. That's more than enough incentive for Cowher to seriously consider taking the job. He has to be bored out of his mind with what he is doing now. Step 4: Cowher could then retain Gailey as his Offensive Coordinator and require Gailey to place much more of an emphasis on the run game. I believe Gailey to be one of the very best offensive minds in the NFL. I think Cowher does too. Gailey may be a below average HC, but he's an above average OC. He's also a very good friend of Cowher's and would seriously consider working for him again. Step 5: Cowher will hire a Defensive Coordinator who deploys a 3-4 mainly to utilize the zone blitz. His defense will be bigger, stronger and more athletic than what we have now. Step 6: Bring in a franchise caliber QB. This could be via trade or via the draft. This is an essential step towards being able to compete and actually win on a long term basis. It may mean trading away picks and veteran players to get that franchise guy. If so, then so be it. Get the franchise QB, even if it means taking a step backwards. We cannot and will not win without a franchise QB. Fitz is clearly not the answer. He might be a decent backup QB though. Step 7: Build the roster much the same way that the Pittsburgh Steelers have built theirs. Franchise veteran QB, strong running game, outstanding defense that aggressively pressures the QB on a regularly basis. Cowher knows the way. If you give him the resources (both the money and the talent evaluators that he needs) he can get the job done. Under the conditions that I have described above, Kelly can and will convince Cowher to run the show for the Bills.........and the Bills will win again. Maybe even win a Super Bowl or three. The Bills will never be able to compete with the likes of Bill Belichick (who we need to actually beat because his team is in our division) unless they make such a move. Belichick is too crafty, too competitive, too sneaky. Too willing to do whatever it takes to win (yes, even cheat, which has been proven!!). I really don't give a gosh darn if you agree or disagree with me. This is what needs to be done......and soon.........before it's too late!!!!

Bill Polian on what it takes to win
ChanOverChin replied to LiterateStylish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills fans who think Nix is the answer deserve what they get. And what they're getting is a team that has become an embarrassment (i.e. a big fat helping of steaming sh-t). How does it taste Buffalo?? How much more can you take Buffalo??? Nix can't build an NFL team anymore than the laugh riot that is "DrinkTHEKoolaid". Nobody suggested bringing back Levy, Buttmunch. BTW, W. Phillips was actually the last Bills HC who actually had a winning record (and YOU are mocking HIM). If Ralph would not have forced Phillips to play Rob "just duck every time you drop back to pass" Johnson over D. Flutie, Phillips might have actually led the Bills to a Super Bowl. Seriously though, believe it or not there is actually a guy who is available who has the experience, the connections, and the know how to get the Bills to leave behind their embarrassing ways and get back to the playoffs/Super Bowl. And you'll never believe this, this guy actually likes Buffalo and would probably be willing to be their next GM if given the opportunity (imagine that). Buffalo Bills fans meet William Q. Polian........for the second time................the answer to your prayers. -
Bill Polian on what it takes to win
ChanOverChin replied to LiterateStylish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Quit wasting time with Nix and bring in Polian while he is still available. Nix can't draft, he grossly mismanages funds, and he doesn't know how to build a roster. He's a 70+ yr old neophyte. Get him outtahere!!! He's feeling his way in the dark with your money Ralph!!! Polian will know whom to hire and whom to fire. He will bring in a smart HC who can relate to the players and who will in turn hire quality assisitants. He will go after a franchise QB as a top priority because he knows that you can't compete against the teams in the NFL who have one (i.e. the Patriots) if you don't have one. He will build a strong, dominating defense. Give Polian the keys. Show Nix the door. I can't make it any simpler for you than that. -
Does Wannstedt have a clue?? Has he been away from the pro game as a game plannertand gameday decision maker too long??How can the Bills not blitz at least one player straight up the middle to get in Hasselback's face on 4th and 9 with the game on the line?? You had to know that Tenn. was going to have to throw the ball into the end zone on that play and that a pass was surely going to be made. Why not rush Hasselback's throw or obscure his vision??There's not a team in the NFL that doesn't blitz the QB as often as possible........save for the Bills..........especially in the red zone!!I'm disgusted with Wannstedt's decision making and with the way the Bills lost this past Sunday.Changes are going to be made very soon if this continues.

Bills Worked out Donte Stallworth Today

Bills Worked out Donte Stallworth Today
ChanOverChin replied to cmjoyce113's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Stallworth worked out for the Bills on Monday, 9-24-12. He's not a great WR anymore, but he might be able to help. We need something besides Johnson, Jones, Smith, and Graham. Your thoughts?? -
Adding RB J. White after losing WR D. Nelson?? Really?? The Bills only have S. Johnson (at 90%), D. Jones (average to below average), Martin (on the roster to be a ST gunner), Graham (rookie who the coaches weren't confident enough to activate in Week 1), and B. Smith (more of a jack of all trades, master of none). At TE, Chandler is dependable, but L. Smith and D. Dickerson are both below average by comparison to other NFL TEs. RB F. Jackson will be out for a month. This is not a stellar group on offense. It needs help.........desperately. On the positive side, Spiller looks like he's ready to explode. Give him the ball early and often. He's a TD waiting to happen every time he touches the ball. I say it's time to explore some new options to make up for the lack of talent at WR, Stevie's bum groin, and the loss of our offensive MVP for awhile. Bring in WR Burress. He is better than all of the WRs we have on our roster, including Stevie (at only 90%).. Bring in TE C. Cooley. He is a 10 yr vet who is a very dependable receiver and a first down maker. Bring in a vet LB for pete's sake. Our LBs were terrible vs the Jets and they don't exactly have a great offense. Bring in a vet CB. The coverage vs the Jets was horrendous. Sanchez was able to release the ball when he wanted to almost every songle time because the coverage was just flat out awful. If we can't cover the opponent receivers for at least 2-3 seconds then our pass rush will never have a chance. Disagree with me if you want. The Bills weren't just beaten by the Jets, they were dismantled. They were embarrassed. They simply did not measure up. Changes need to be made and soon or this is going to be yet another very disappointing season. I feel sorry for Fitz because he probably has the worst receiving corps to work with in the entire league. With Stevie at only 90% even he is only an average player.

WHO's OUR 8 INACTIVE FOR SUNDAY ?
ChanOverChin replied to jupiterreef's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I expect it will be: T. Jackson (not ready to contribute) C. Brown (on roster as a safety net for Wood) A. Carrington K. Moore C. White D. Howell D. Dickerson. B. Smith or Dickerson will be a tough call, but I think the Bills really want B. Smith to play. Our active 46 for Week 1: QB: Fitzpatrick/Thigpen/B. Smith RB: F. Jackson/Spiller/Choice FB: McIntyre TE: Chandler/L. Smith WR: S. Johnson/Nelson/Jones/Graham/Martin O-line: Glenn/Levitre/Wood/Urbik/Pears/Hairston/Rinehart/Young K: Lindell/Potter P: Moorman LS: Sanborn DE: M. Williams/Anderson/Kelsay DT: K. Williams/Dareus/S. Johnson OLB: Barnett/Moats/Scott/Bradham MLB: Sheppard/Morrison CB: Gilmore/A. Williams/McGee/McKelvin/Rogers S: Wilson/Byd/Searcy Looking at the active roster, I have to wonder if veteran TE C. Cooley would be a better option over TE L. Smith and also whether a guy like WR P. Burress would be a nice shot in the arm once T. Jackson assumes the #2 QB role with QB T. Thigpen being released. Eventually, TE Cooley for TE L. Smith - Cooley has always been a very reliable receiver. QB T. Jackson for QB T. Thigpen - Thigpen is just not good enough against top notch NFL competition. WR P. Burress for WR R. Martin CB Brooks for TE Dickerson. -
The key to the game is protecting Fitz from Rex Ryan's blitz happy defense. If the Bills can do a good job of that and get Jackson 10-15 touches the Bills will win. I expect the Bills to be able to generate a very good pass rush with their front four. They will sack Sanchez 3-5 times in this game. Bills win 24-13.
-
I agree that Thigpen should be cut right now. Why fart around with this guy anymore?? Young needs the reps. B. Smith is not a great passer........we know that. But Gailey obviously likes utilizing the Wildcat with Smith at the helm. The main reason is that he likes that opposing teams have to use a portion of their game prep time having to prepare for it.

Who are the Bills 9 D-Line?
ChanOverChin replied to NC Bills Brigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The locks: Ma. Williams/Anderson/Dareus/K. Williams/Kelsay/Sp. Johnson Merriman and Edwards aren't locks only because they have large salaries, but I say both will make the final roster. That's eight pretty darn good DLs. Heard and Carrington and Moore could be fighting for one more spot. Troup won't be kept because he's not healthy and hasn't been able to show what he can do. Because Heard hasn't been healthy I don't think he will make it. Thus, it will come down to Carrington and Moore for the final spot. Carrington has the edge because he can play both DT and DE, but Moore is really starting to come on so it's too tough to call right now. -
B. Smith can play WR so that gives us six. Plus Spiller can also play in the slot and Chandler gives us yet another pass catcher. Easley just hasn't done enough yet. he has to do more to make the team I think. Do you take a 6th WR over Carrington, who is very young and can play both DE and DT?? Sanders and S. Young could battle it out for the 8th OL spot or the Bills may keep both guys. Right now Sanders has a lot to prove. Has Dickerson done enough to make the roster?? Not yet he hasn't. You can tell what the Bills really think by how they play these guys in preseason. if the no name guys like Dickerson don't get much playing time, don't get the chance to play with the 2s or enter the game after guys like L. Smith, Onubun, Caussin, and others then I'd say they're in trouble.

As of today, I would project the following Bills roster for the start of the 2012/2013 season: QB: Fitzpatrick/V. Young/B. Smith RB: Jackson/Spiller/Choice FB: McIntyre TE: Chandler/L. Smith WR: St. Johnson/Nelson/Jones/Graham/Hagan OL: Glenn/Levitre/Wood/Urbik/Pears/Hairston/Rinehart/S. Young/Sanders K: Lindell/Potter P: Moorman LS: Sanborn DE: M. Williams/Anderson/Merriman/Kelsay DT: K. Williams/Dareus/Edwards/Sp. Johnson/Carrington OLB: Barnett/Moats/Morrison/Bradham/Scott MLB: Sheppard/McKillop/Carder CB: Gilmore/A. Williams/McKelvin/Brooks/Rogers/McGee S: Wilson/Byrd/Searcy (Scott) The guys that I'm not so sure about and who were added last include: TE L. Smith/RB T. Choice/DT Carrington/OT S. Young/OT Sanders. These guys are definitely not safe yet. Other players who could take their place include: RB J. White/TE D. Dickerson/WR M. Easley/OC C. Brown/DT Heard/WR R. Martin/FA WR/FA TE/FA OT. Basically it's those ten players plus three potential late FA signings fighting for the last five spots on the final 53 man roster. I think the Bills WILL look to sign a FA or two or three (like they did with LB Barnett last year) to improve their roster once final cuts are made by all teams. How do you feel about this roster?? Can we knock off NE with these guys??

Gailey: "I think everybody's genuinely excited. And they have a right to be, I believe." It's not night and day, but it's night and dawn. Because I believe daylight's coming." I don't think we would have heard those words from Gailey two years ago or even last year. But this year I think he knows that he and his coaching staff have much more to work with and that the team finally has turned the corner and is ready to contend for the division title, a playoff berth, and who knows what else. "Because I believe daylight is coming." Those are some sweet words right there.

Morrison will make the team even if he doesn't start at OLB. He can play MLB and ST so he gives us good depth. B. Smith will be our #3 QB unless Thigpen really starts to show something, which to me is highly doubtful. The Bills have the Wildcat Guru in the fold now so expect B. Smith's Wildcat skills will be better utilized this year. BTW, V. Young is really starting to come on. It has taken him longer to learn the Bills' offense than expected but he's finally getting there. His natural athleticism is too good to ignore, which is why he will make the team as our #2 QB over Thigpen. Troup would make the final roster as the fifth DT, but he's not healthy and my guess is that he won't be healthy enough to make the final roster. I'm hopeful that the Bills will put him on IR or the PUP list to keep him around until he is finally healthy. At WR, I currently have Hagan over Easley. St. Johnson/Nelson/D. Jones/Graham are all virtual locks. If the Bills only keep 5 WRs then I think Hagan makes it over Easley. if they take 6 WRs (and they definitely might), then I think Easley would be #6 (although don't discount R. Martin because he is a decent WR and an excellent ST player). McKillop is a guy who is flying under the radar. I think he makes the final roster over C. White because he can play MLB and is an excellent ST player. He's also a tackling machine and Wanny really likes him. If that's the case then we take long time vets Barnett, Morrison, and Scott and a nice group of hungry younger guys in Sheppard, Moats, McKillop, Bradham, and Carder. The Choice vs J. White competition is still to be decided. I originally thought that Choice would win out easily, but I have to admit that White outperformed Choice in the first preseason game. Still, I think that Gailey favors Choice because he's much more familiar with him, knows what he is capable of, and knows that he will need a dependable #3 RB during the season. We will see what happens.

NFL RUMOR: Bills close to waiving Vince Young
ChanOverChin replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It sounds like Thigpen's brother-in-law started this rumor. Total BS. Thigpen blows. He's not even an average NFL QB. Young has had his issues but is by far a better athlete and a better NFL QB. He has a far better winning record (31-14) than even Fitz. LET'S LET THE PRESEASON GAMES DETERMINE WHO THE BEST QB IS. My guess is that Young's athleticism alone will convince the Bills that he is the better backup QB option. -
Interesting tidbit regarding Wannstedt.
ChanOverChin replied to ChanOverChin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it's much more important to be able to see what the opposing offense is doing.........and then adjusting to it..............than being able to get in someone's face. Like it has been said, the various position coaches will be on the sideline to continuously talk to the players. We need Wannstedt's expertise and experience to make the right defensive play calls and to find the right personnel matchups. Those are the things that will make the most difference. -
The Bills DC will be in the pressbox on gameday where he always has been as a DC with such teams as Dallas, Oklahoma State, etc. What are your thoughts on that?? I happen to think that that is very wise. He will be able to see how the opposing offense sets their formations much better from above than on the sideline. He becomes much more of a matchup type coach from the pressbox perspective. This is where I think he will prove to be the most valuable. He has a lot of NFL experience as a DC, and as a result, has learned how to best utilize his defensive personnel. I think we will see a lot of specialized packages from him as a result. I'm especially looking forward to Wanny matching wits with Belichick/Brady. It's extremely valuable to have a DC who has comparable NFL experience to that of Belichick.

Redskins game officially not a sellout
ChanOverChin replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
See the replay of the game on Friday at 4 p.m. on Ch 212. I've already got it set to record. NFL Network will show all preseason games on Ch 212 in the days that follow the day the game is played. You can see all of the Bills' preseason games if you have DirecTV (on Channel 212). -
I'm especially anxious to see Gilmore, Glenn, Dareus, Merriman, Ma. Williams, Sheppard, A. Williams, Fitzpatrick, V. Young. Gilmore - He has been hyped beyond belief........already drawing comparisons to Revis. Will he be the shutdown corner that we desperately need?? Glenn - Is he better than Hairston?? Is he ready to be a starting LT in the NFL?? Will he look a out of place or will he fit right in?? Dareus - I expect a monster year from Marcel this year. With much better players around him he will blow up anyone who tries to block him 1v1. Merriman - He's put in the hard work to get himself back to where he once was. I'm anxious to see if he has the explosiveness that he once had. Will he stand out as a pass rusher?? Ma. Williams - We probably won't get to see much of him this week. I'm excited to see what he brings to the table. We know he can be a force rushing the passer, but can he stop the run?? Can he set the edge vs running plays to his side?? Will he be a visible leader on the field?? Sheppard - Wannstedt said that this guy is taylor made for his 4-3 defense. I want to see that for myself. Will he position himself well to make plays?? Can he shed blockers and get to the ball carrier before he turns up field?? Will he be directing players or will he be taking direction from the vets?? Will he be a tackling machine and draw comparisons to Wanny's former Miami MLB Z. Thomas?? We just don't know at this point......haven't seen him play much. A. Williams - This guy is a smooth athlete and has good size for a CB. I thought he showed some play making ability last year before he got injured. I want to see that he show signs of confidence on the field and that he belongs as a starting NFL CB. He will certainly be an important player for us. Fitzpatrick - He threw way too many INTs last year (the most in the league). I'm interested to see if he actually has improved his mechanics under guru QB Coach Lee. Is he confident and is he directing everybody on offense. Does he have a rapport with one or more of his receivers?? Does he show poise under pressure?? V. Young - Never thought I would ever see him in a Bills uniform. He's definitely a stud athlete so I'd like to see signs of that. Can he throw the ball accurately on a consistent basis?? Does he know what he's doing?? Will he play like a guy that wanta to stick with the Bills as their #2 QB??

Thanks SJ. I think I bring a different perspective than the post that you reference.
