  1. My point was that the Bills simply need to hedge their bet at the all-important QB position. If I were the Bills' HC I would not want to go into any season with only Manuel as my legit starting QB. BTW, the Bills had the exact same thought, which is why they signed and paid K. Kolb. Kolb hasn't worked out so it's time to move in a new direction. There were rumors last year that the Steelers wanted to move Rberger. There will be teams that will be willing to acquire Byrd and SJ. I expect the Bills to move Byrd because he won't want to sign with them. I expect the Bills to move SJ because he's not reliable and makes too much money.
  2. If the Bills are smart they will hedge their bet and either trade for a vet QB, draft another QB or both. Nothing against Manuel, but the QB position is that important. We saw first hand last year that we MUST have a high quality QB to compete for wins in this league. I expect Kolb and his $3M+ salary to be released. That will leave us with Manuel/Lewis/Dixon/Tuel. How about a trade for Roethlisberger or Cousins?? Both be available. While you're at it, trade Byrd for high draft picks and avoid paying him $9M/yr, trade SJ for a R2 pick, release Pears and his high salary. Pay the guys that deserve to be paid the big money. We can' afford to pay Byrd $9M/yr. Nobody can. SJ has worn out his welcome and is not worth the big money that he is being paid (about $8M/yr).
  3. B. Nix traded younng stud R1 pick RB M. Lynch to Seattle for a R4 & R5 picks, which turn into OT Hairston and LB Carder, both of no longer play for the Bills. Meanwhile Lynch absolutely tears up the NFL, runs for 4600+ yds and 41 TDs, becomes a top 3 fantasy football player, and greatly helps the lowly Seakhawks to become one of the top two teas in the NFL with a chance to win the SB in the 2-13-2014 season. It's these kinds of decisions and faulty, incompetent deals that have put the Bills squarely where they are today..............out of the playoff for 13 straight years and counting. Even the Browns were able to pry a R1 pick from Indy for RB T. Richardson. But no, not Buffalo. Buffalo gets so used cleats and a box of tape for a guy is now one of the most dominant players in the entire league. Why draft Lynch when you already have Jackson and Spiller?? Why draft Lynch is you know he has personal issues?? Why do the Bills continue to waste their most precious assets (their high draft picks) on players that they're not going to keep. Nix should be ashamed of himself. Watching Lynch dominate the league and lead a once lowly team like Seattle to the promise land has to make any Bills fan extremelty sick to their stomach.
  4. First and foremost, obtain a high quality QB, vet or high draft pick. Need to hedge our bet on Manuel. The teams that are in the 2013 playoffs all have one thing in common. They have high quality starting QBs. Replace Hackett at OC with vet OC. He's just not good enough. Hire vet QB coach. Emulate what the Pats do on offense. Lots of short crossing patterns/play action. Hire a more accomplished ST coach. Trade Byrd for two high draft picks. Trade or release St. Johnson. He's unreliable, injury-prone, and paid too much. Need a stud big WR. Need a stud TE. Also resign Chandler. Need a big RB for short yardage situations. Sign or draft a stud NT, a pass rushing OLB, and a FS to replace Byrd. Sign a vet CB and draft another CB.
  5. I've seen him play a lot. He's very exciting to watch. He has a real presence to him. He loves the limelight and is not afraid to put the game on his shoulders. The Bills should have tanked to get this guy. If I were the Bills' GM I would bring him in to compete with Manuel. That would double our chances of finally landing a franchise QB.
  6. Manziel is a special player. There's no predicting how he will fare in the NFL, but I know that I would certainly take a chance on him. He will be a top 5 pick maybe top 3. Certainly not lacking for confidence. I liken him to D. Flutie, but more athletic. Very, very savvy. He could be the next B. Favre. This is a guy who is worth going after. The Bills need a difference-maker at QB more than anything else.
  7. OGs and TEs are a dime a dozen. We can improve both positions with mid level vet FAs. Drafting another QB with the potential that Manuel has or even better OR trading for a vet QB the likes of B. Roethlisberger, that's the kind of move that could very likely put the Bills in the playoffs again and KEEP THEM THERE for a significant amount of time. The Bills supposedly got the best QB in the 2013 draft, but by comparison, the top QBs in the 2014 draft may be much better. I would say to Whaley/Marrone that if you're happy with 6-10 then don't make a move at QB, but if you actually want to give yourself a chance to make the playoffs then make the move. We need somebody who can compete with Brady/Bress/P. Manning/Luck, not somebody who "seems to be coming along". I love Manuel and firmly believe that he is worth developing. I love his character. But there's nothing wrong with beefing up the depth at QB with someone who can actually compete with him and maybe even beat him out. The Bills have no hope without a high quality QB. That has to be the focus!!!
  8. To cut to the chase, what the Bills need most is a difference-maker at QB.........................................if they ever hope to mae the playoffs again. If you subscribe to that way of thinking then drafting another QB, when there are many more really good ones to choose from this year as opposed to last year certainly deserves some consideration. Is Manuel going to be a difference-maker in 2014 and beyond?? Nobody knows. He only played in 10 games. The best case scenario for us is that he turns into a great player beginning in 2014.. However, his critics would say that he's fragile, indecisive, and checks down more than any other QB in the league. If I'm Doug and Doug I'm making the decision to go into 2014 with a solid QB situation. I'm not going to play a game in 2014 with the kind of clustf--- that we had at QB in 2013. That means I have Manuel/Lewis/Tuel/Dixon, but I need a proven veteran or a high potential rookie QB in the draft. Johnny Manziel will be discussed ad nauseum prior to the 2014 draft. Some experts have him being drafted as high as #3 overall. He is being likened to B. Favre. Why would you not take a chance on a guy like that given what the Bills have at QB currently and what they have to go up against (i.e. T. Brady) to win the division and finally make it to the playoffs?? FOCUS on the position that will net you the biggest and best results is what I would do. Maybe make a trade for a proven vet like B. Roethlisberger?? Do something to give your team a chance to f'n compete!! We have a good defense now with an aggressive scheme to help us to win games. What we need more than anything else is a really good QB. Adding a TE and an OG?? That's f'n bullsh-- man!! It's that kind of thinking that has put the Bills right where they are now.
  9. If you saw the game yesterday vs Miami you saw a Bills team that can be very good......almost dominant............at least on defense. But the team is still very badly in need of a top flight, elite QB. Give us that player and we then have a chance to beat ANYBODY in the league. We need a fuggin real QB!! Keep Manuel but make getting a real QB your top priority Buffalo.
  10. I know the Bills have made moves in the past to bring in depth, but not like this. Those past moves a lot of times were just to fill a roster spot because of an injury. This regime is cutting guys for poor play and bringing in replacements. During the season we cut starting OG C. Brown, cut CB J. Rogers, cut P Powell and have made a shiittt ton of moves in season to get better. There are THIRTEEN new players on the roster today from when the start of the season and the practice squad has been nothing short of a revolving door. These guys are constantly looking to get better.
  11. It seems as though D. Whaley has scoured the waiver wire and the practice squad of every team looking for good young talent to help improve our overall depth. I love it!! I think it's something that needs to be done to be able to compete with the best. Here is a not so short list of players currenlty on our 53 man roster who were brought in AFTER the final cutdown in Sept. 2013: 1. QB T. Lewis - Has potential 2. RB R. Wingo - Has not played 3. FB E. Rodriguez - Has not played 4. OG A. McClain - Has not played 5. M. Asper - Has not played 6. OT/OG JJ Unga - Has not played 7. K D. Carpenter - Has been outstanding 8. P B. Moorman - Has been solid 9. DT S. Charles - Nice potential 10. OLB T. Powell - ST player 11. CB B. Smith - Has not played 12. FS J. Leonhard.- Has been very good.
  12. Geno has had some pretty darn good games. The first game vs the Bills and the game vs the Saints to name two. He was impressive in both games. If you were to poll experts prior to today most would say that Geno looks like the better player. EJ was absolutely terrible last week, but thankfully he looked like a solid player this week. We can only hope that he keeps getting better.
  13. I think most would have had to say that Smith was developing faster than Manuel prior to today, but after what we say from Manuel today against a very good Jets defense I think Manuel showed that he has the ability to be the better of the two long term. After today, my hope has been renewed for Mr. Manuel. While we still have an outside chance to make the playoffs (with the 2nd easiest schedule in the league down the stretch) my biggest interest will still be to see how Manuel plays the rest of this season. If nothing else we really need to find out if Manuel is capable of being our franchise QB.
  14. What these past few games have proven very definitively is that you don't win in the NFL without a high quality QB. You might come close, but you just don't win. This team desperately needs a high quality NFL QB. We hope that QB is Manuel. Kolb/Lewis/Tuel....all not quite good enough. This team could've/should've beaten NE/Cincy/KC and if they had they would be 6-3 instead of 3-6.
  15. Maybe they'll pick up a veteran RB instead of bringin up Wingo from the PS. RB I. Redman (formerly of the Steelers) is available.
  16. It was Lynch for two fourth round picks in consecutive years. It's trades like this that t put the Bills where they are today. Lynch is one of the top 3-5 RBs in the entire league.......yes, ahead of both Spiller and Jackson. Seattle has risen to one of the top three teams in the league in large part becuae of the Lynch acquisition.
  17. We need a big RB for short yardage and goal line situations. Gotta be able to move the sticks on 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1 and score the TD on 1st and goal from the 1. Manuel needs experience. Gotta have an experienced backup QB. Need a big/tall WR. Need another pass catching TE. Need another starting caliber CB. Need another pass rusher. Need the HC to manage the game like Belichick does.
  18. Byrd has royally pissed me off this year. It was painfully obvious from his interviews that his heart is not in it to play for the Bills because he and his agent believe that the Bills have screwed him over. First he holds out, then he suddenly has an untreatable condition that also keeps him off the field and gets back at the Bills. If I'm Marrone, I don't want players who don't want to be here. By the same token, I would really not like to give away proven star NFL players like M. Lynch and J. Byrd. The Bills simply cannot afford to do that. If the Bills must rid themselves of Byrd then they must get something significant in return. In my view he is worth TWO R1 picks because PB safeties are hard to find. He's a stud just like his father was. I would seek a R1 and R3 pick (from a team with a projected poor record) OR possibly a R1 and a vet QB (even better). How about Byrd and a low draft pick for a R1 and QB B. Rothlisberger?? We desperately need help at QB.....even with Manuel. The Steelers just may be willing to part with Rberger because of his age and relatively poor performance. A. Williams and Leonhard are doing a capable job for us at safety. We need help at QB or we don't have a chance.
  19. With Manuel expected to miss 6-8 weeks the Bills need to sign Freeman and Dixon AND waive Tuel. Freeman/Manuel/Dixon would be a good QB group to work with. Put Tuel on the PS. He's not ready for prime time. The Bills might have a fighting chance with those QBs.
  20. I think the Bills planned to play Manuel this year come hell or high water. They are rebuilding.......meaning that they are not ready to challenge the Seattle's/Denver's of the world just yet. Hopefully, Manuel becomes a viable starting QB for the future. The jury is still out on that. The Bills have not built this team to compete for the SB just yet. They have drafted well recently so if they can draft just as well next year then we might be able to actually compete with the big boys. Without Manuel healthy this team is sunk. The next four games will be very tough to win without a viable starting QB. if we lose those four we'll be 2-7 and already looking at next year.
  21. This whole situation stemmed fromt he fact that Schiano had a big falling out with him.................to the point that they could not be civil to one another. After that, I think Schiano just wanted him out. We obviously don't know all of the facts, but from a pure talent standpoint Freeman could definitely help somebody to improve their starting QB situation. Starting caliber NFL QBs are very hard to find. The Bills only have Manuel and Tuel. If I were Whaley I would definitely be looking into what it would take to pick Freeman up.
  22. Searcy was left for dead prior to the start of the season. In fact some thought he would be cut. I think he has been a very good player thus far...very opportune......which is a sign of being in the right place at the right time. Aar. Williams has been even better. He is really starting to turn some heads with some nice plays and big hits. He's obviously better suited to playing safety. I'm extremely disappointed in Byrd. He's simply playing chicken with the Bills' front office. It's obvious that he's majorly pissed and won't play unless he gets what he wants. Just think how good our defense would be with Gilmore and Byrd on the field full time.
  23. The JETS O-line has some serious deficiencies, especially with a rookie QB who likes to hold the ball and is prone to taking a lot of sacks. I see our defense being very sack happy on Sunday. If we can stop the NYJ running game the Jets will struggle mightily on offense. This will also be a big test for our own rookie QB vs a blitz happy Ryan defense. The Bills' offense had better be ready for the blitz because it's coming early and often. I can see Spiller having a huge game he will have the opportunity to get the ball in space quite a bit....and when that happens......well, you know.
  24. The defense gave up way too many big running plays and could not stop Brady's precision passing on third down, especially third and 9 a few times. I though the offensive play call was amateurish. Rarely if ever did I see play action fakes and then a pass. The play action fake should be used on a regular basis and it wasn't. I felt like Hackett severely handicapped Manuel. How many times did we see Manuel simply hand the ball off out of the shutgun and watch it get stuffed for little or no gain?? Searcy played a great game. As did McKelvin. Just imagine if the D had Gilmore and Byrd at the top of their game..
