  1. I disagree. With colleges playing mainly the 4-3, DE's in the 250 - 260lb range are common, but don't always translate to playing LB. Our DE's in last year's 4-3 ranged from 245lbs to 270lb. Bruce Smith played at about 262lbs and Phil Hanson about 270-275lbs, both in a 3-4 system. I think the point of the article is true NT's and pass rushing LB's for a pro 3-4 are tricky to draft as they do not play those positions in college. Most DT's coming out of college are around 290 to 300lbs. Good for a 4-3 but undersized for a NT in a pro 3-4.
  2. +1. Let'em all line up and see who wins. This kid can hit and he's got the attitude we need. There's been lots of undersized linebackers who get it done. Screw the measuring tape and let'em win it or lose it on the field.
  3. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_...?urn=nfl,229833 Nothing we don't know, but stated very well. The lack of college teams that run a 3-4 defense makes for picking the right players even more of a challenge and a crapshoot.
  4. He's a nice player but not a NT. Too small and too light - Kyle Williams 2.0. We have enough tweeners. We need a wide body ala Ted Washington in that spot.
  5. Even so, I'm feeling like Hamlet about this. On the one hand, McNabb is light years better than what we have and is said to have three more seasons in him. On the other hand, we're buidling with the draft and losing a top pick like a #2 right now seems steep. On the other hand, take McNabb and a draft a QB to groom............and on it goes. I just hope he does have a few good seasons left and this is not a Russ Brandon "let's sell season tickets" move.
  6. I forgot about that. Those two drawls together using SEC football slang would be a hoot to hear.
  7. He was a rook from a small school. A year under his belt he might be worth another look. Has prototypical size, why not take a shot? CFL has produced a lot of good players for the NFL.
  8. Just about bunch of stats on that site. Besides, basically three rooks on that line and a few that played sparingly or just off the street some weeks. No continuity or time to play together. We have Green on the right side, a first rounder on the left, hopefully, and the rest will have a chance to play together for a season. Relax, this line is going to improve.
  9. Wow, bold and thoughtful. This just came out of nowhere. I'll have to rethink the entire draft now. Who knew?
  10. I've had this same surgery - twice! (weight lifting mishap and the first one didn't heal completely) He's in for a long and difficult recovery. It's really painful and the bicep tear triggers many months of spasms. He's in far better shape than I but I can't see him putting the shoulder down to make a tackle or stretch to block a pass anytime soon.
  11. That was a hell of an effort! Thanks for taking the time and being so transparent in your presentation. It's nice to read an intelligent post like this. I've copied it and will see how things stack up on draft day! I'm sure the nattering nabobs will weigh in and challenge it but I for one appreciate your work.
  12. +1. That was a brutal injury. Makes no sense to rush this guy, we need him for years to come.
  13. Oh great, another "sky is falling" thread. Relax boys, the fun's just beginning. And like you, I just formed my own opinion on this thread. It's BS.
  14. Agreed. Donahoe signed a guy at 12:01 AM and it was a bad signing. Buddy wasn't going to sign anyone on day one so wny not get a good night's rest! He's picked up three starters in FA at a fair price to get us going on our transition. Pretty nice work so far.
  15. If buddy pulls this off I'm going to start getting excited...just when I promised myself I wouldn't! With Rogers and our new DE & LB...damn that can be a good D!
  16. Agree on trade down. Cody will go in first round. I like your scenario save for McCoy. This is a draft for big bodies early on.
  17. Jesus Beavis, calm down! The fact that the Vikes made the playoffs with T-Jack proves my point! Thanks for the perfect example. I am with you that the QB can make the difference between a playoff team and a championship team. But friend, we are really not close to being an average team. Fix the lines and the holes and look for a QB in the interim. I'd love to be a good team in the playoffs with an average QB - that means were one guy away from being special.
  18. Another stellar post from BYGD1. The body of your work to date is a collection of lame and negative single sentances that never refer the content of the topic at hand. Your posts read like a sixth grade recess discussion. If all you are going to do is insult with no reasoning behind it, do us all a favor and keep it to yourself.
  19. This is one of the big problems on this board. Someone who gives zero thought to what they write and just throws insults as if it were self evident that it is the case. I think the idea of getting Culpepper is wrong headed. That doesn't make the guy who suggested it a moron. Even you are not a moron by definition. You are just inconsiderate, flip and a little pr*ck. We're here talk Buffalo Bills football and to have an outlet for our opinions. What are you here for?
  20. There are at least four threads that are a variation on this theme. QB Vs. OL...etc. Let's use this one to make a definitive statement and them let this thread rest. I vote with the above. Fix the OL, DL etc, without reaching for a "franchise" QB. This team is full of holes than need fixing. The Jets are the best current example of this philosophy. Fix the damn trenches and the QB situation will work itself out.
  21. +1 No way Seattle pickes a QB after this week's deal with San Diego.
  22. How many times are we going to have this g'damn thread topic? It's been done a hundred times and Darth Ice will say QB and a dozen others will say OL.....blah, blah, GIVE IT A DAMN REST!
  23. Let'em have him. He in no way rates a top ten pick and even rated first at NT he's not first round material.
  24. +1. Chan has said as much. With an average guy at best playing QB, we need to be able to pound the ball ala the Jets.
  25. Ice, it's no less valid than trading up for Bradford or Clausen. What does ''Oh Wise One" Ice deem the Bills should do?
