We're not bringing in Soliai. That's not how the plan is laying out from my observations of Buddy and Chan. They drafted their NT last year along with their DE in Troup and Carrington respectively. Remember that Chan and Buddy both feel the players in year two are the ones who will really help the team, not rooks. They are not going to drop big bucks on what they think we already have. IMO, the line will be Troup NT, KW at DE an Edwards and Carrington at DE, unless they feel Dareus is too awesome to pass up. Stroud is done. They are going to concentrate on ILB and OLB. They won't resign Poz and go for bigger, stronger ILB's in FA and in the draft. (little chance Harris will be available but that would be a helluva pick up) They will likely draft another OLB and use Merriman on one side and Moats working in as back up. I agree that guard is a long shot, but we really need a competent RT that can run block. So that may come in the draft of FA or trade. Honestly, looking at how they have acted and what they say, I don't think we'll see a ton of movement on the DL. They feel they have the pieces an that our LB's flat out suck, which is hard to argue.

Kiper Re-Grades 2010 Draft

I don't think we'd be better with Jimmy Clausen at QB. -
Kiper Re-Grades 2010 Draft
Green Lightning replied to Gabe Northern's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How the Hell does Kiper make a living with the crap he spews. He's still making excuses for his pet picks, (see Clausen) and is a master of the obvious. That aside it's too early to grade this draft. We'll know more next year. I expect big improvement from Troup, Carrington, Moats and some flash from Easley. I think we all expected more from Spiller and he has to step it up and learn the pro game running inside the tackles. All you can say is we'll see. For me, of all of the draft wonks....Kiper's the one I trust the least. -
Really, then by your estimation BJ Raji was a failure because he didn't light'em up in his rook year either....but he's looking pretty good at the end of season two though. But you're right, let's just give up on Troup because, after all, he didn't make the Pro Bowl in his rookie season. Why can't we all see that clearly........

Steelers approach vs. Tom Modrak
Green Lightning replied to David D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wish the league would have forced Tomlin on the Bills before we hired DJ. -
+1 No more LB-Saftey tweeners who get swallowed up or pushed away by OL with little difficulty. We need to get bigger.

Kevin Kolb may be available....
Green Lightning replied to Buftex's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hope all works out for the Eagles and for Kolb, but that the Bills don't answer that phone call. -
Not sure Kerrigan is worth a top pick and definately we don't need Matthews, too small.

Steelers approach vs. Tom Modrak
Green Lightning replied to David D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Then we agree. I just don't see the value in burning stomach lining stewing about things that are over and done or things that you have little control over. Modrak is there and presumably, Buddy is okay with it. Buddy's the guy I'm going to hold accountable, not Modrak. -
KW will make the transition. Troup is huge when you get near him. Lower body is wide and thick. He's 21 or so and is going to get better and better. He benched a bunch at the combine (34 I think) but can still get stronger. He needs to learn how to disengage from blockers and do better in the hand to hand combat in the trench. Raji had the same issues. They gotta learn and last year Troup got some good reps in. He's going to be good. I expect him to stand up the middle next year and towards the end or the season, to begin pushing and collapsing the middle.

Rather have Harris as our big FA pick up (Jets will likely put the franchaise tag on him) and get a RT in FA or draft.
-
Troup used to play at 365 or so and lost weight in college to be a 3 down player . He's got a massive lower body and plenty of room to get bigger. An offseason of pro weight and strength training will do wonders. I expect him around 330 lbs of power next year. He's going to be a beast. No NT rook made a whiff of impact this year. Troup got in valuable reps and is learning the game. It took BJ Ragi of the Packers a year or so to learn the pro game and he's doing just fine. I expect the same for Troup.

Steelers approach vs. Tom Modrak
Green Lightning replied to David D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I suppose it's fun to whine and continue to hand wring on past drafts. I like this years draft. Next year I expect to see significant impact from Carrington, Troup, Moats and Easely. Spiller has the talent and needs to learn patience running inside, but I expect a breakout year from him. You can spend all your time and energy looking backwards or looking ahead. The bottom line is Nix is now making the calls. We don't have to guess about what Modrak or anyone else doing. Buddy is the bottom line and the guy with is head on the block. Who give's a crap about what a subordinate does or doesn't do. It's Buddy's team and you negs now have a clear and easy target should our situation not improve. You should be happy about that. -
Buddy wants declared juniors
Green Lightning replied to bananathumb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If that's the point I missed it was worth missing. Draft boards change when someone clocks a good time in 40 yard dash so you're wrong. Buddy had a valid observation and doesnt' give a rat's *ss about who would or would not say it. I like that in a GM. Got it? -
+1 Saw Troup (no "e") in TC last year. Massive lower frame. Needs pro strength training but has plenty of room to get bigger. I see him at 330 or so and powerful. This off season is huge for him. I think he'll be a beast.

Why, if Cromartie brings his kids will have another dozen or so added residents to the area!

the Bills gameplan for the franchise?
Green Lightning replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great idea, and let all the other GMs know what his thinking on the draft is all about ahead of time. Brilliant! As for the article, same old, same old. Maybe Modrak stayed because they let him make the calls on the later picks, of which he apparently excels. The author knows squat about how that FO worked and is just frustrated like we all have been the past decade. He, like many at TSW, won't be happy unless they have Modrak's head on a pike. Frankly I don't give a sh*t as long as we have accountability and we do now with Buddy. If Nix thinks the guys worth keeping, I'm fine with it. Just pick good guys in the draft. All this carping just fills news column inches and keeps the guy getting a paycheck. From what I can tell the authoer has had zero impact on the Buffalo sports scene so why does he want to stay in a job where he has no impact? +1 -
Wow, great post. I'm fired up to see the game!

Saw that. Like I said you can't ignore that arm. Need to see his mid range accuracy and defense reading. Only way to see that is to play him.

Im Confused about the Shawn Merriman signing
Green Lightning replied to JPicc2114's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And he would have been the first to cry about not signing him when he went to another team and was kicking *ss. You can't win with this group. Don't try. $2.5 is reasonable and it is an incentive laden contract. Frankly, I'm going to go with Buddy over Mr. Negative. -
Good Scouting Report on DE's in the draft
Green Lightning replied to box0life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you guys are actually down there and watching the practices, thanks. Great service to TSW. I've seen Bowers play on the tube and wans't blown away. I was more impressed with Fairley and Dareus, but that's on TV. Thanks for the reports. -
Buddy wants declared juniors
Green Lightning replied to bananathumb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Buddy has a good point. The idea that college football is about building student-atheletes is almost comical now. The senior bowl is a NFL meat markert preview so why not just call it what it is. Besides, for the declared junior, this is their senior bowl. And just because "genius" Hoody or Polian didn't say it first, it doesn't make us look "clueless" as WEO says. Get over your Buffalo inferiority complex and be happy we have a GM that's out and involved and not a follower. -
No to the first point, give him one more TC. YES to the second point....we don't need another Maybin.
