Denver aquires RB Lawrence Maroney from NE
DC Grid replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Does no one else see that it is also the advantage the Pats have in dealing with their former underlings? Bills don't make these moves becasue they don't have these connections. That said, I hope this helps establish Lynch as being worth at least a 4th rounder. -
Looks like we have an NBA or MLB GM here. Kidding aside I think this would take a 2nd from buffalo, but would be completely worth it. Though after last night I think SD might be caving to McNeil's demands.
-
Exactly. Despite the Buffalove for Freddie, I'd be willing to bet the promise of a return to Beast Mode is a lot more inticing for the vast majority of NFL teams (even with his off field problems) than a hard working, undrafted, over-acheiver. FWIW I would much rather keep Lynch as well, but with the money the Bills have tied up in Spiller, resigning lynch after 2011 will never happen, so we should try to get something for him now.
-
GB is desperate on the OL too...not like the Bills, but desperate. I'd love to get Flynn or a 3rd or 4th round pick.
-
GB is cooked without Grant and they know it. With him out almost all year now (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5572144) they are desperate for a trade as Jackson cannot handle the load. The Bills need to eventually ditch one of their RBs and now would be a perfect time to get value for one. I'd be shocked if GB wouldn't give up what will be a low 3rd for Lynch, or if nothing else a 4th. Whatever we can get from GB now is as good as the Bills could ever hope for, and I for one would much rather have another pick in next years draft to spend on trying to solve some of the gapping holes we have on this team, than an extra RB who isn't part of the long term rebuilding plan.

I caught tons of crap for wearing my old Apex One Jim Kelly jersey at the Ralph a couple of years ago, but it probably was becuase we had a couple of Seattle fans in our group.

Jerry puts on his peter king hat and hands us another pile of BS. Here are some teams that seemed to build a winner without "completely bottoming out". Now a lot of them did have a Dick Juron type of era with fewer wins than losses, but you wont find a great deal of horrific seasons in this group. Minnesota Vikings New York Jets New England Patriots San Diego Chargers Green Bay Packers Pittsburgh Steelers Baltimore Ravens

Tim has regularly explained in his ESPN chats that he does all his contract requires him to do chat wise, and basically not much more. As I figure it, that means he has to do about 20 a year which is what he does. And like he did on this site, he gets defensive when people challenge him about it. I'd wish he was like Matt Williamson who does around 40 plus a year, cause Tim's chats are pretty funny.

Housh speculation finally over.

What's the source for this? No one else seems to be reporting this. -
Ok, The Roster Has Been Set! Official Prediction Time.
DC Grid replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd be happy with 6 with real progress being shown by our young players. -
It's hard to not see positives in finding good undrafted street free agents. Though i'd rather they kept bell to a couple on this list, these finds plus making the right call on spiller, and grabbing moats late make me think this regime is already off to a far better scouting / drafting start than any of the regimes that have followed butler.

Ravens cut Troy Smith - per Schefter tweet
DC Grid replied to muddy waters's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think this is dead on. Fitz is who he'd replace. And anything that gets fitz off the roster is good by me. -
Alex Gibbs the Seahawks OL coach quits!
DC Grid replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seattle is on tilt. You almost wonder if the crazy is trickling down from the owner. Paul Allen has turned the Trailblazers into a trainwreck via his front office meddling and maybe he's screwing around with the seahawks too. Grabbing ol Andrews, killing houzh. And I think it's going to get worse there before it gets better. -
I'd hope for us to go 7-9 or do as well as we possibly can then have the nerve in the offseason to make the moves necessary to take it to the next level. If that means trading up to get a top QB in the draft (which it might) so be it. As the Jets have shown you don't have to spend years at 1-15 etc to rebuid into a winner. I think it is far better to see a 7-9 team, realize Nix was right that this isn't as much of a rebuild as the Chargers were, and go from there, having to fill holes not rebuild an entire roster.

Why not build it on the edge of the falls???
DC Grid replied to Merle Haggard's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
PUT IT DOWNTOWN! Buffalo is a ghost town, use the stadium and new development to draw people back to the downtown. In almost every major city, save Detroit, people are flocking back into cities and redevelopment has helped to greatly improve stagnating downtown economies...you get young people out of the burbs and into the cities they pay taxes and pump money into the cities and help spur a cycle of growth. Give the next owner 20 square blocks, let them develop it using the modern stadium model of placing a stadium, retail, residential, and business complexes all together. Using smaller arenas and less development this formula has been used to perfection in cities like Milwaukee and on a larger scale in Indianapollis. In Cleveland their stadiums help to give development a rock to cling on and have led to larger redevlopment of the downtown than could have been expected with their shrinking population. Building it near the falls would be great, and make the stadium a spectacle, but Buffalo again would get little in the bargain. Put it downtown use the stadium and the team to Buffalo's best advantage. -
Name a surprise cut before it happens...

How dare you even joke about that. Moorman accounts for 90% of the season ticket sales. -
Cornell Green is awful!!!!!!!
DC Grid replied to Johnny Hammersticks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Serenity now, insanity later. Personally I plan on losing my mind after the talentless Mr green blows a block that winds up getting Edwards or Spiller injured. -
I think Brohm looks somewhat promising, but ill be buying his jersey if he can boot fitz off the roster. Fitz is worthless and at his best has only shown glimpses of being a below average backup. I'd love to see TE start and BB and LB behind him as they'll all get some time this year and the team will get to see if they actually have some potential at the position. I still think they need to take a Qb high next year, but I'd love to see the bills find some potential on the roster this year. Every game fitz starts is one more wasted chance to evaluate / develop a real Qb. In investment terms Brohm and Levi are lottery tickets, Trent is an awful mutual fund that is slowly losing money and fitz is the equivalent of giving your money to a homeless DC crackhead.

Jake Locker's talent is questionable for the NFL
DC Grid replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For starters, Locker has a better throwing motion than Tebow and Lefevour, he has far better pocket presence than either, and compared to Tebow he has gotten the stats he has working behind a shakier line and with far worse skilled position players around him. Add to that guide teammates seem to love him (lefevour is supposedly a real jerk) and the picture becomes a little clearer. -
I think if we were talking about who might beat who straight up I could see an argument for the Bills being better than almost all of those teams except MAYBE the Seahawks and Raiders, but when we talk about a bottom 5 team, top 5 draft pick, it's based on how they fare in the 2010 season. Besides the Lions Bucs and Browns, we have a far tougher road than any of those teams. The NFC and AFC West are a joke. The Hawks will get to 5 or 6 wins by showing up to their games, and so will the Raiders or Cheifs. Looking at the Bills schedule the only easy games are the ones we have against the Chiefs, Browns, and Lions. Win those and we might push to the 6th or 7th pick. Right now the Bills would probably be clear underdogs in their other 13 games. There's even a decent chance that they are getting a touchdown their first 4 weeks. I bought sunday NFL ticket again and I will be watching ever minute of the Bills season, but I refuse to talk myself into another season of hope for the playoffs. Set your sites low and this team will only mildly disapoint you. As for QBs going down in the East thereby helping us to close the gap, I don't buy it. Remember what that bum Cassel was able to do with the Pats? And I'm not convinced Hene or Sanchez are all that good, but the teams around them are extremely solid.
-
How bad is it that I am getting really excited about the College FB season so I can start watching the top three QB prospects? I just hope that for our sake these guys don't flame out as bad as Snead and McCoy did last year. I also hope the Bills finally pull the trigger when they are drafting in the top 5 and Luck, Locker, or Mallet is on the board.
-
That's right everyone. Calm down there are plenty of lifeboats, heck the band's still playing, and Captain Smith will get this ship righted in time to avoid disaster.
-
Exactly. My big point was at worse Claussen would have been a stop gap, but maybe he could be far more. He could turn out to be a franchise QB and if not, heck, all it cost you was a high 2nd, and you can try again next year, very little harm done. This especially rings true as in the 3rd it seems pretty clear that the Bills could have grabbed Troup...or at worst obviously could have grabbed Cam Thomas, who didn't go till even later. Looking at the options below, is it even close which group you'd take. Bills Drafted: 1-Spiller 2-Troup 3-Carrington Alternative: 1-Spiller 2-Claussen 3-Troup or Cam Thomas
-
I'm usually a little more patient, but after watching the Bills game as well as other highlights, I couldn't help myself. Taking Troup, a guy who doesn't start, instead of Clausen, a guy who could start for us this year was a big blunder. And this is not a hindsight or BS revisionist take on the draft. I like many other Bills fan around the country was screaming at the tv during the draft when the Bills drafted Troup (a guy not projected to go in the top 3 rounds) over JC. I understand this team has a ton of holes (arguably even more before the 2010 draft) and that next year is supposed to be an even better year for QBs (2010 was given such a label too at this time last year) but grabbing Clausen at worse gives you a decent QB who could develop into something special, but at the least provides stop gap play at Qb in 2010 and is a good backup after you draft a QB high in 2011. For the Bills sake I'm hoping that Clausen as a falling QB that so many teams passed on, follows Brady Quinn's career trajectory, and not that of Aaron Rogers who a lot of teams also passed on and who had similar reviews out of college.
