Ralph Wilson is a detriment to the Buffalo Bills franchise

If the Bills ever hoist a Lombardi during Ralph's lifetime, you people do realize that he will be the only continuous thread that runs through all of your greatest Bills memories, right??? -
Ralph Wilson is a detriment to the Buffalo Bills franchise
XTC replied to USABuffaloFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ralph may be a lot of things but it is shameful the way an old man is attacked on these boards. He has done a lot of good in this world and in his prime was a much shrewder businessman than any of us could ever hope to be. Put yourself in his position, he put an "open for business" sign out in 1960. Though he is a charitable man, you and I and all the rest of us are not his family and certainly not his charity -
Billick=better than you think. But I am not on his bandwagon. Why is all of this so hard to figure out? Rust belt teams like Buffalo and Cleveland need to adopt the old Pittsburgh philosophy. If you have a Carson Palmer or a Jim Kelly or a Tom Brady then sure, build your team around a 1 in 100 level of QB talent, otherwise follow the (old) Steeler model: Suffocating defense, smash-mouth running game, and either an average caretaker or gimmicky type of QB (think Slash) and voila! You have the recipe for a solid contender year in and year out.

You "could" be right but I seem to recall all of this talk about loose purse strings a few weeks ago...for the first time ever. My God as a Billionaire, you would think that Ralph wasn't blowing smoke about spending a tiny fraction of his fortune. Dan Snyder is a young man who has no trouble spending. Ralph Wilson is in fine shape and likely has another five years left in him, I think he knows he has one final shot before his health finally gives up the ghost.

More openings are going to happen, not to mention the USC factor...Carolina does not want Fox nor does Richardson want Cowher. If the Jags gig opens up look out! Cowher would inherit a decent D an above average QB and a great RB.

Something tells me that this whole Billick thing does not have legs...and never did. I have a hunch that Nix does not like the guy. Someone could probably connect the dots through mutual contacts and draw a yes or no on that one. I truly believe that that Brian and Marty stand a much better chance of getting hired than Frazier. Sure they said nice things about the guy but the Jets will be bounced out of the playoffs this weekend and when they are things will really heat up for young Brian IF Marty signs on in a significant advisory role.

Ralph is very old, his rainy days are all behind him. What is he saving for? I believe he wants a winner badly. Nix knows that they need someone with some HC experience to make this happen during Ralph's lifetime. He can afford a little drop in the bucket chump change...6-7 Mill with a nice extension that he won't get in Carolina will bring ol' Foxxy sniffin' around.

Frazier is the frontrunner because his only competition thus far is Perry. As you all know, lots more assistants will be rolling in this place in the coming weeks. Should the Vikings continue to win, I believe that Frazier's chances will grow dimmer and dimmer. When all the smoke clears, you will be shocked to learn that John Fox will be your new head coach.

Dear Mr. Wilson, I Am Done With The Bills.

Friend, you have been for years...you have been for years. Now, will someone kindly get our dear friend Frasier Crane a warm horseblanket and a cup of coffee? He has been traumatized. You need a group hug. -

You are a brilliant and fantastic writer, and likely articulate as hell out in the real world. You love the Bills to a fault like every other die-hard that is here bleeding and posting, bleeding and posting, bleeding and posting, bleeding and posting>> right now. Collectively we all feel punched in the gut by what is going on. As a human, lashing out is an appropriate response when we are feeling disrespected. Right now we are ALL feeling overlooked, unloved, and disrespected. We have two choices as Bills fans, because we can never really leave......you can either LOVE it or HATE it, but make no mistake...you (and I and all of us) are powerless to do anything about it.............BEND OVER AND TAKE IT PITTSBURGH PIRATE STYLE>>>>>>>>>>>it will not get better for awhile, but it MIGHT get better after- a- while. I don't like it either but accept the fact that we'll all be living with a big, thick, fat one shoved deep up in our collective hoo-hoo holes for a bit longer. -
We all remember the fearsome Buffalo Bills from the 90's. Not a champion...but a POWERHOUSE of epic proportions.....that when you pin 'em down Palamalu style, every NFL fan out there has to admit, albeit begrudgingly,........yeah, ok, they were awefully awesome. The early nineties like much of our youth----ain't never comin' back. Is there a doctor is the house?? Kavorkian?

For a guy like Cowher to hold steady waiting for THE job to become available, I suspect that he is on the Horn with guys like Fox, Fisher, Del Rio etc ALL THE TIME. I mean, it really would not surprise me at all. These guys are fed a glut of information while the poor pitiful Joe-Schmoes are left to speculate, bicker and turn on theselves. Even in this information age we are the starving peasantry and those at the top make us dance the idiot's dance for every scrap and morsel. Anybody else get the feeling that these guys have a world of information at their disposal. I'm not bitching, just making an observation that a bunch of these high profile guys likely talk amongst themselves more than anybody (even the media) realizes. In other words I doubt that they are waiting on a John Clayton update like the rest of the free world...

Hi, you seem like a friendly and intelligent robot, what do you make of all the rumors and the madness? When the smoke clears is it really, I mean realllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly going to be an assistant??? I swear, you almost strike me as someone sent here as a "to the ground---earpiece" for the Bill's brass. -

This Tweet states that "team wants someone with experience........" then why in the HELL do they not come clean on the Billick speculation???? We already know that they laughed us out of the builiding on the Cowher thing, and we know all about Marty. Where is the bottom line on Billick???Surely if there sources are telling them no way on Cowher then there should be rumblings about Billick one way or the other???!!!??? -
So the Browns need a GM, they get Holmgren.

All of this is bizzare to say the least. I have a hard time believing that the Bills will jump on a DC or OC after what Nix stated. It should be fascinating to see "what comes out in the wash" when the search is over. Billick and Cowher have been mysterious characters. As smug as all the reporters seem to be about Cowher not coming here, tells me that Cowher is selling the biggest smokescreen in history or...more likely...is truly not interested. Strange though, that one of Cowher's close friends in NC (Marty) seemed to think that there was a real possibility that Cowher could come to Buffalo. -
Well, therein lies the rub...Fox does not want to be a lame duck coach. That would be the biggest overiding factor that will determine how this all plays out. I think that there is a lot more "off the record" conversations that go on than anybody realizes. What is there to stop Cowher from picking up the phone and talking to Fox off of company time?
-
Frankly there is a lot of wierdness swirling around out there. Cowher has not publicly denounced the Buffalo rumors which leads me to belive that he could be shielding the Bills reputation so that someone (like Fox) can slip into that job while he slides into the situation that he covets. Cowher has been VERY strangely silent.

When the front office let the entire staff go, it seemed like something was about to play out. Do you suppose something went horribly wrong? There were reports that Billick and Cowher were assembling a staff which lent credence to the rumors that were swirling around those two. Why the big hurry to let go of everyone on Black Monday? Now Bobby April is gone forever... -
Anybody with a little HC experience would be a wise move. We need someone that would bring credibility. I believe that a HC has less of a learning curve than a an OC or DC thrust into a strange new world.
-
Somehow, someway, we get this guy. This is a stubborn niggling hunch that has been eating away at me for the last few months. Cowher has been silent because something "wierd" is still perculating here in NC. Cowher might sign on for a hometown discount in Carolina, that means that Foxxy has to go somewhere???????? Right??????? Buffalo is in a one horse race right now. There is a funky game of musical chairs going on right now and Buffalo is controlling the needle. Oddly, USC might be the wild card team that tips the balance of what is going on right now, but at some point the music will stop and the Bills will be the only NFL chair left available for somebody. Add it all up: Reports that Cowher will for sure coach in 2010 (But not in Buffalo), Fox and Carolina are far from done concerning his future, and Nix hinted that there is a likelihood that the Bills will lean toward a proven coach and it may all add up to a move back to NY for Fox.
-
Please, can somebody explain how Cleveland is a better destination than Buffalo? I don't want to hear about any other franchise situations, just these two! Please!
-
Naw, you are not following...plenty of cities have their "dumpy" spots and their lovely spots. I mention that I am a Bills fan (live in NC) and people turn their heads as if they need a moment to compose themselves so that they don't chortle directly in my face. Gosh.....you are such an otherwise altogether person....what would make you root for a team like that...their expression speaks volumes. It is insane that four consecutive SB losses can create such contempt...but that is what it is....pity, contempt, disdain because I choose to root for the Bills since 1978 mind you.
-
This team has been 7-9 or damn near it for the majority of the decade. This is not a 1 or 2 win per year situation. This team has played hard and has been competitive. I just wish the grinning grin-box bastards (Adam, Clayton, Mort etc.) who act as if they have a dirty little secret to tell about Buffalo would just come out with it. It is NOT the city, it is NOT the weather, it is NOT the owner. Jax is closer to a move than the Bills are...if Del Rio gets canned watch how the Media jump all over the idea that Jax is a "dream" opportunity.
