I remember that movie coming out of nowhere in 1993. Pre-internet it wasn't widely discussed or marketed. 1993 was a pretty good year for movies. Besides Die Hard with Dinosaurs, you had the Fugitive, the Firm, Pelican Brief, Cliffhanger, Mrs. Doubtfire, Schindler's List, etc and my second favorite 90s film, Hard Target. (Heat is my 90s opus.)

Bills preview on Good Morning Football
dpberr replied to RPbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think that's a sports knowledge issue but often a respect issue. She has to respect and acknowledge that friends or alone time is just as important as couple time for everybody. I think one of the problems of the modern man across all racial and age lines is loneliness and the lack of male friends as we get older. -
Cover1 breaks down Allen's last drive against the Panthers

I've never seen a QB throw a ball so effortlessly in a pro game. Those balls were thrown with pepper. To his credit, he and the Bills are proving me wrong already. I labeled him as nothing more than a modern day Jeff George. -
McDermott channeling the wise teaching of MC Hammer

I concur. I don't think the entire genre takes off like it did without his work in the summer of 1990 and MTV there to broadcast it. -
I wish the networks would give the sideline reporters opportunities to call games in the booth.

Andy Dalton’s Charitable Plans for BUF

I hope they make this story into one of those mini-movies before a prime time Bills or Bengals game. It's a story that certainly should be told. -
Teen throws 8 yr old off waterslide platform
dpberr replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I'm a *big* fan of filing charges against the parents or caretakers of autistic or otherwise challenged kids that do these sorts of things. Examples must be made and people have to be responsible. Don't want to throw the developmentally disabled in jail for their actions? Ok, we'll do the parents then. For whatever reason, these kids are deceptively strong, with far more physical strength than you realize. You combine that with an emotional outburst, you get this. I can speak from experience. Last year, a 20-year old autistic child went on a rampage in a Target where he tossed every shopper in an aisle into the shelving or to the floor. My mom was one of those shoppers - she broke her arm after being shoved hard into the shelving and hitting the floor. The mother said "well he gets like this when he can't get what he wants..." Although my mother should have pressed charges and sued somebody, she didn't. It took three police officers to restrain this kid. -
Does the fanatic reality ever lessen your hype?
dpberr replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think you spend less and care less as you get older as other things, positive and negative, jockey for that attention. I used to watch every single Bills game start to finish whenever I could. I'd plan my Sunday afternoon around the games for most of my 30+ years as a fan of the Bills. However, for the last decade or so, if it's a really nice fall day, I'll spend it with my children or doing something to enjoy the outdoors, or at worse, mow grass, rake leaves, etc. I'll catch up on the game with my phone or if I'm taking a break. I'd rather soak up the day than the tv. -
You can tell from the previews the Chinese are heavily funding the Meg and Mile 22 movies. All I see when I see Jason Statham in *any* movie is The Transporter. Even in the Expendables, he's still the Transporter. Now he's transporting a shark in the ocean. The Happytime Murders is the digital manifestation of what happens when you run out of ideas. Even bad ones. Mile 22 is an interesting idea and I'll probably see it but coming on the heels of Mission Impossible, every actor in it appears to play the B team of the Impossible Missions Force. John Malkovich is Alec Baldwin, Wahlberg is Tom Cruise, Lauren Cohan is Rebecca Ferguson, etc and they are all on an impossible mission!

Why Do the Bills Need a New Stadium ??
dpberr replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Answering the why is easy IMO. It's peer pressure and it's ramped up significantly since the Pegulas purchased the team. The rest of the NFL owners aren't going to let the Pegulas, Buffalo and New York state skate by while everyone else is pumping billions of dollars into new stadiums. The NFL is in the business of making money and new stadiums make owners more money. As an owner, you don't get to join this elite fraternity of rich people and just sit back and cash the checks like a landlord with some student housing. -
Home remidies for Strep Throat?
dpberr replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
If you have drainage, you could ease the symptoms by turning off that spicket. I'd try fexofenadine (Allegra) without the pseudophedrine in it. -
Do You Give any Credibility to the Late Night Talking Heads?
dpberr replied to Keukasmallies's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Bee's fatal flaw is she's not really interested in making people laugh. It's just a self-indulgent catharsis for her and the writers raging out at the world like all the talking heads you see in cable news. I also find her skits similar to Sasha Cohen's - they may intend them to be funny but they come across as being mean-spirited. -
I doubt he gets fired. I think ultimately it comes down to whether he was forwarded texts or not, and even if he were, who says those texts are factual or present enough information to make an informed decision? I don't see Urban's wife ratting him out and I can see any able attorney punching lots of holes into the "well he should have known from text messages!" claim. It'd be different if Urban saw domestic violence occur and did nothing or the guy was found guilty and he kept him on staff.

Do You Give any Credibility to the Late Night Talking Heads?
dpberr replied to Keukasmallies's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Some random opinions on the subject: Dave Letterman wasn't all that funny but he was edgier than Johnny Carson or Dick Cavett and better at it than say Magic Johnson or Chevy Chase. (God, were those acres wide tire fires.) I never understood why Jon Stewart left the Daily Show or why Stephen Colbert thought playing himself would be funnier. Howard Stern's run ended twenty years ago before the internet desensitized his listening audience and before he had to be a dad to his growing teenage daughters. It's hard to look them in the face after discussing Robin's chest for two hours. He was at his best in the 90s when people still had an appetite for Morton Downey Jr. and Geraldo and before you could spend hours *seeing* what somebody like Stormy Daniels actually does for a living after he interviews her. The late night model took a hit when television producers tried turning it into a daytime model. They replaced all the game shows with morning talk shows featuring celebrities that weren't all that endearing (Rosie O'Donnell, Martin Short) or complete nobodys (Wayne Brady). -
Retirement: Where to Get the Best Bang For Your Buck in the USA
dpberr replied to T&C's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I'd second Delaware as a state to investigate. Has more pros than cons. As a Pennsylvania resident, there is absolutely no good reason to retire to Pennsylvania unless you're escaping New Jersey's pension taxes. PA is a poorly managed state where the combination of decades of disinvestment and poor demographic trends are eating it alive. It's a shame because it's generally calm weather/nature wise. -
Alone (History Channel) Thursdays at 10PM
dpberr replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I'm amazed at how terrible some of the Naked and Afraid contestants are at the show they voluntarily put themselves on. Don't contestants understand fire is the priority over pretty shelter building? Without fire, you've got *water*, food, bug and temperature problems immediately and all will sap your strength. It amazes me the majority of contestants spend their energy reserves in the first few days doing lots of things but getting one started. The guys on Dual Survivor always started a fire earlier rather than later. (Joe Teti simply started them with a glare at some dry wood.) I haven't watched Alone. I'll have to take a look at it. -
Beth Mowins is not a play by play announcer. I have no idea why she's coming back. That was a terrible performance by Ryan and her last year. Rex interviews well but once he's on the job, his laziness betrays him. His problem is he never took a break after NYJ to reflect and recharge. His ego prevents this from happening. He has that "Fire me? I'll show you" attitude.

In your opinion, who's the stronger adversary for the people on the show? Nature or their own mind? -
I buy the Russians did it. However, I think the reason they did it is because there is a personal beef between Putin and the Clintons and it's either ridiculous, incriminating or horrific, and that's why Obama didn't touch it and Trump is going to sidestep it. Obama wasn't going to ride to Hillary's rescue and Trump certainly isn't. I know the narrative is "what does Russia have on Trump" but you never see much about why Russia would have it in for the Clintons.

You took that farther than I intended. I was merely commenting on the 90s style of both sites being an asset. -

I always liked their post-game scoring and appreciated the matter of fact writing. I thought the "old-school" website was a plus, not a negative. It was the Drudge Report of Bills sites. -
If you could go back in time to high school

I wouldn't change anything with the exception of privately advancing my accumulation of inconspicuous wealth by investments, sports betting and creating the companies of today before their inventors did. -
I used to go to Ocean City, MD a lot until I discovered the Delaware beaches. If boardwalk nightlife and skill cranes are an absolute, positive must have, Ocean City is your best opportunity. If the beach is the primary attraction, can't beat a Delaware beach. I rent a place in DE and enjoy the beaches there and will travel down to Ocean City for a night of the boardwalk.
