2019 Buffalo Bills: Were they Paper Tigers?
dpberr replied to RalphWilson'sNewWar's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hardly. The current Bills (Beane/McDermott) have been to the playoffs 2 out of the 3 years they've been in control of the football product. I see progress in going from no playoffs to being able to rest starters in Week 17 of a season for the first time in decades. -
Your story about your Bills Fan berth year

Mark Kelso's wife was from our church, and the church adopted the Bills. -
This sort of strike puts the fear into the Mexican drug cartels not because it was a drone strike but because Soleimani was believed to be untouchable and the US certainly touched him.

I don't think Trump wants a war. Trump cares *deeply* about the markets. War is bad for markets. IMO, I think there was a planned large scale, imminent attack on the embassy in Baghdad and something had to be done. The embassy attack was probably a response to a US cyber attack during the summer. Iran and the United States have been shooting at each other since 1979. I'd say it's relatively tame today versus the 80s when you had the barracks bombing, hostages, Iran Air 655/Pan Am 103, Praying Mantis, and a very big etc because there is legitimately decades of events.

His agent is the real all star. IMO, he's a bright strategy guy but a terrible teacher. He knows the content but can't effectively communicate it. It's why he shines in interviews but the product is always the complete opposite.

Ron Rivera hired as HC in Washington [edited title]

Fired coaches should always take a year off. Has there ever been a coach that was fired one year and successful the next? -
I suspect with Barkley is that prior to being signed by the Bills last year, he was practicing intensively, working out, etc. in training "up" for a shot in the NFL. Now that's he's the backup, there isn't that same level of intensity solely focused on just latching on to a team. He probably has a lot of responsibilities other than his own game readiness. Further, I don't think the Bills had the most elaborate game plan in Week 17 on either side of the ball.

It wouldn't surprise me to see the Chargers move on from Lynn and one or both of Fangio/Arians retires. Quite surprised the Lions are keeping Matt Patricia.

Likely just a "favor" to Drew Rosenhaus to whatever end.

His appearance on SNF is not of a man who's training for a return. It appears he's put on significant weight. -
We are in the same gift-giving boat. Can't beat them for Christmas cookie making.

I think they still get to censure because when it comes down to it, "these" people care most about their own backsides and that requires not taking a side. If you're a Democrat House member, there's no win here for you. Vote for impeachment and suffer the wrath of an electorate, its likely defeat and the Republican fringe. Don't vote for it, and likely suffer the wrath of your party and its fringe. So...let's just not vote at all. Let's just send a letter.

2017 revisited...McDermott or ALynn for HC??

I don't think Chargers GM Brandon Beane would have done some of the things Tom Telesco has, and I think that's an important factor to consider in our parallel universe discussion. -
Moving forward: We need to do something about Gore

At this point, RB2 needs to be fresh legs, and those aren't his legs. -
I like simple instrumental (piano, sax, a little drum) of the classics. I loathe that Paul McCartney Christmas song. Runner up is everything by Pentatonix.

Eastwood's film should have included the Eric Rudolph component of that event. Without it, the story is boring and incomplete. The Rudolph portion of that story was intense with a lot more questions - he evaded capture for years, his brother cut his arm off with a saw as a sign of solidarity, and despite being on the run, when Rudolph was captured, he was wearing all brand new clothes and looked well kept, which suggests he had help. -
Just wait until Kitchenaid unveils their mixer ads where hubby gifts a stand mixer to the Mrs. with the tagline "Get bakin' woman!"

I'm a fan of the Twins and formerly the Bucs. The last straw for me was when they traded Cutch. Just had my fill of the Nutting era Pirates at that point.

Can you imagine a MLB with an NFL-like salary cap? It'd force the cheap teams to spend money. Fans tend to hate the Yankees because they spend but the bigger issue is the growing number of teams that don't spend and the growing number of teams content with tanking for a few years to gobble up cheap prospects they can control so they don't have to spend money. A real salary cap would fundamentally change the game and take away the competitive advantage of the Yankees, Red Sox and Dodgers. Perhaps give some teams a new lease on life with new owners (Pittsburgh,). Bob Nutting would sell the team before being told he'd be required to spend $150 million every year. There's zero parity in baseball. Yes, a small market team can be competitive, and perhaps can even win a World Series in any given year, but the money isn't there to make it sustainable.

This movie has some soul to it. A proper sequel, I hope. The 2016 Paul Feig one was a NYC street corner Rilex to the Rolex.

I think the only people who are shocked that Afghanistan is an unwinnable war might be Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney. The *entire* history of Afghanistan strongly suggested that nation building in Afghanistan wasn't going to work out well for the West or the Afghan people.
