  1. I think it's too early to rule the 2009 draft a *total* bust.

Yes, Maybin is surely one. He's never performed. Some of those other guys have underperformed so far.

I think Curry will end up proving us wrong. Seattle was playing him at the wrong position, so it never surprised me he wasn't as dominant in the NFL as he was at Wake Forest. Hopefully the Raiders put him at middle linebacker where he's' supposed to be.

  2. I don't buy it yet but I can see why the Colts might be open to doing it.

Regardless if it's Luck or Manning back there, it's evident they have to overhaul that old team from top to bottom to stay competitive. Even with a healthy Manning, the sun is setting on the Colts fast with the combination of injuries, age, and busted draft picks.

They will need lots of new draft picks to do it. IF you can parlay your aging wide receiver into a big, talented linebacker in next year's draft, it's enticing.

  3. All about the price for me. He had a great year in Denver, but otherwise with stops in SF, Chicago and Washington, eh and seemed to be only productive when Kyle Orton was QB. Further, if he had trouble with the old school Joe Gibbs, not sure how he'd manage with Gailey.

Lots of questions. I'd be ok with swapping the 4th from the Evans trade, but nothing higher. I don't think the Bill absolutely need to do this move. The Bills seem to grow capable receivers on trees and I'd be happy seeing what Roosevelt and Aiken can do.

  4. Outside of the injury game of who has more healthy players as the season wears on, IMO the game that scares me the most is Washington right after the bye. It's a combination of bad memories of 2008 and a fear of the team coming out flat against a better than average Redskins defense.

Overall, every game on that schedule is realistically winnable this year. No game strikes me as a "oh wow, yeah the Bills are going to get blown out in that one, no chance."

  5. Please,

Our WR and TE names outside of Chandler, Spiller and Roosevelt may have been pulled from the witness relocation handbook.

    I screw them up sometimes.

    Donald Johnson.

    Fred Nelson.

    Steve Jackson

    David Jones.

    Whatever just keep winning.

I read your post and my brain instantly popped in the Miami Vice theme song.

  6. My first impression is that do I care so long as the Bills keep winning? No.

Outside of analyzing tackle distribution, it's probably interesting to see how the defense performs after halftime. It appears that's when the defense gets gashed, not in the first half.

And more importantly, why? That's my question to you guys on the board who know and follow the defense closely.

Why is it we give up the bazillion yards in the second half and let teams back into would be blowouts?

    Fatigue? Inexperience? Change in strategy?

  7. The Saints were pretty much a patch work team embraced by the media and especially so because they were in a small market suffering hard times. They took a shot on an injured Brees after Miami passed on him for Culpepper (the modern day curse of the Bambino). Their whole championship roster has always been filled with castoffs, low round picks and UDFAs. Their only name high first rounder never performed close to his selection number.

The media loved the New Orleans story because of the hurricane, though. Without Katrina, not sure the media would have put focus on the Saints.

  8. In a league that markets the "superstar", nobody wants the team of misfit toys doing anything awesome and crashing that party besides all of us Bills fans.

Detroit is palatable because they have "stars".

The NFL and the national media would be horrified at having a team comprised of castoffs, 7th rounders and UDFAs making the playoffs, and heaven forbid getting to the Super Bowl. It would rip apart the time-space continuum and put a hell of a dent into the NFL's embrace and marketing of superstars.

The NFL, on the surface, embraces parity, but not to that extent where a bunch of Average Joe's can beat Globo Gym.

This team and its fans will never have a shortage of motivation to do well.

  9. I feel good about the Giants game.

Looks like Tuck and Jacobs will be out. Baas may be out as well, along with the starting RG Chris Snee. With those three out, Giants had a 2.8ypr.

You can run on Osi. I hope the Bills direct the attack on his side just like Seattle did. That's his big weaknesses as a lineman...he can rush the passer sure, but he can't defend against the run.

You can run on the Giants overall. Seahawks had 145 yards on the ground.

  10. It is sustainable.

We have new uniforms. Cosmic forces aligned? Check.

The only person that has stopped the Bills so far this year on offense is Chan Gailey. If he runs the ball against Cincy in the second half, the team is 5-0.

I'm enjoying this offense because the majority of teams won't be able to shut down both facets of the offense. Somehow shut down the ground game, we'll air it out. Close down the airspace, we'll pound it on the ground.

The only defenses really capable of that in the AFC are ones with both outstanding linebackers and a secondary. Not many teams have both.

  11. I'd enjoy seeing T.O. back. Thing is Gailey thought he hit the wall back when he was hired, so I don't see how that opinion has changed, especially given TO's injury issues this year.

T.O over Moss any day. At least you know T.O. is giving 100%. Can't say the same for Moss.

With it unlikely that either would be approached by the Bills, let's get Kamar Aiken in the game.

  12. I'm a believer in Gailey; However, he has bouts of AndyReidiosis where a mix of coaching hubris and ego and the "I've forgotten more about this game more than the coach on the other side knows" sneaks in to the game plan and you don't make the adjustments you think you should because you feel your plan is damn fine as it is.

I think it happened last week against Cincy. I think it explains why we passed a helluva lot to the wide receivers, and we got away from pounding the ball with Jackson, got away from throwing to Chandler and not using Smith like we had used him in preseason.

Of anybody on the team, I'm hoping that loss refocused our head coach into doing what got us those three victories. We didn't win by trying to air it out all day along the sidelines.

I'll be upset tomorrow if we aren't hammering it up the middle and have Chandler exposing that weak Eagles linebacking corps and instead trying to prove a point by taking on Philly's cornerbacks.

  13. Would you rather lead the league in interceptions or sacks? Obviously both would be awesome, but if you had to choose?

I can see pros and cons for each, but I'll take leading the league in INTs. An interception is a turnover. A sack may provide a turnover and a loss of yards, but the opposition, most of the time, will retain possession.

I'm ok with a lack of sacks...what I'm not ok with is the lack of consistent pressure like the Bengals provided last Sunday.

  14. The only more Humpty Dumpty QB in the league outside of Tony Romo is Mike Vick. That guy is injured all over the place. He's not 100% for sure. I think with a barge of pain medicine injections, he'll be at 85% and he'll stay put together for a half.

Fitz will have opportunities to throw and Fred will have opportunities to get his yards against this defense. Fitz will have the ball out of the pocket before Babin and Jenkins gets to him. This defense, especially with no Trent Cole, is nowhere near the ferocity of the Bengals defense.

I think the key to the game is stopping the run by having Andy Reid remaining convinced to only pass the ball and just give up on running the ball. McCoy is a talented running back that is underutilized.

Philly isn't going to pound your face in with a running attack. They live and die by going through the air.

You can't ask for the table to be set any better. At home against an injury ravaged 1-3 team with a defense who's weaknesses compliment your offensive strengths in a ridiculously loud stadium.

  15. The media sliding off the bandwagon is exactly what this team needs.

Keeps them motivated. Fuels the intensity which is important for this team. When your team lacks superstars, you've got to win by outworking and out-hustling the opposition.

If your team is fueled by a perceived lack of respect for skill and talent and claims the team is overrated or same ol' Bills, the last thing you want is to be respected and lauded for said skill and talent and that this is a new Bills era. You want that chip on the shoulder to stay there.

  16. Give me the Jets. I enjoy seeing the Patriots take as many shots as possible. Should the Bills remain competitive, and i have every expectation they will, the Patriots with two division losses is a big deal.

I think the Jets are done in terms of true playoff aspirations. Nick Mangold's injury is the kind of injury that never fully heals without being off of it for a long time. He'll re-injure it in no time and be out again and it appears as if he is their offensive unit MVP.

  17. It is a campaign out of control. You have a select interest group spreading its influence into the game, and it's a slippery slope and frankly I see the NFL pandering to women with this pink stuff year after year.

Where does it stop? Will teams be wearing dog-colored uniform accessories if the SPCA desires? Beagle-colored shoes? Gloves with the coat of a Labrador retriever? What if the armed forces want a special day? All uniforms wear various levels of camouflage from the branches of the armed services?

"The Bills will be in Navy BDUs while the Bengals, well, will be in their standard uniforms...."
