  1. I believe Mariucci was being honest. Fitzpatrick would probably do well in a WCO type of offense.
  2. I think it'd be hard to meander between head coach and coordinator, especially older the guy and the career, and coming from a very patient franchise like the Texans. Anywhere else and Kubiak was probably fired 2-3 seasons ago and on their third incarnation of of a "plan".
  3. It sucks that KC got that 15 yard excessive celebration penalty on a touchdown that was brought back. That didn't seem terribly fair. No touchdown, no celebration. Cause and effect. Can't have effect without the cause. I don't see how the NFL can take one away but enforce the other.
  4. P1 for linebacker help. I'm getting a sinking feeling that it wasn't the front four but the lousy linebackers all along. Does anybody have a good write up on any college linebackers that could be potential Bills in the draft?
  5. Barring a playoff miracle, Reid is gone at the end of the year. No, wouldn't want him. He's had the benefit of money being spent on the team every year for free agents and top coaching assistants and nearly 100% control and gets nowhere. If you're Jeff Lurie what else could you possibly give Andy Reid to make that team successful? If he can't make a go of it there, what makes you think he's going to do better elsewhere?
  6. I'm not sure anymore if it's the lack of media respect or possibly they just don't know a lot about the Bills so they grasp to say something about a team they don't know much about whatsoever. Let's face it, the Bills are one of the more obscure NFL teams, and of course that's of their own doing. You can't escape Obscurity Island by not making the playoffs for over a decade.
  7. After taking a mental health day from the election, I can say that I was stunned and dead wrong about this election. I'm surprised white voters stayed home. Up to 7 million didn't vote at all. I was surprised at the ultimately lacking GOP enthusiasm. I was surprised that despite a majority of people saying the US is going in the wrong direction, they still voted for the incumbent. 2016 will be very interesting. The Democrats won't have Barack Obama to run out there and I think the majority of people who voted for him voted because they like him, specifically. On off years Democrats fare badly in elections.
  8. 1980 redux. It's felt like the late 70s the last four years. I don't think it's close.
  9. I'm intrigued by your choice.
  10. An Obama re-election is the doom America has been historically smart enough to postpone before.
  11. I wouldn't be a fan of this move. He, along with his brother have always been all hat, no cattle. As DC, I think he's underwhelmed in his stops at Oakland, Cleveland and Dallas and their teams don't get better. They either stay the same or regress.
  12. The George Seifert at the Airport...one of this board's all time great threads. Comedy gold still. It's one of those threads that if you made into a play and dramatically read the posts...would be hilarious.
  13. Yes. Carolina coaching is worse than ours. I'm convinced Rivera sees a different team than the one he has. They don't use their two talented running backs and their scheme doesn't play to Newton's or Steve Smith's strengths as football players. Carolina would set back the franchise years by trading the player versus finding new coaches. Newton in enlightened coaching hands, would be an excellent NFL player.
  14. Andy Reid has a contract that runs through 2013. That's why he fired Castillio in Philadelphia. Gailey has no such Sword of Damocles. At worst he plays out the contract and it's not renewed. Beats being fired. And let's face it...he's got the organization in a tough position. Firing Gailey during the season creates huge problems. It's nowhere as clean as Fewell replacing Jauron.
  15. "...and the Bills need to look at regionalizing Nova Scotia." Hilarious.
  16. I'd be for giving Inge a shot as DC. Why not. Sanders....he comes from the school of the Jim Bates pathetically bad run defenses...been there, still doing that.
  17. If we wanted to interview guys with coaching experience, he'd have my vote. 58-53-1 with the Giants, one SB appearance. Won two championships with Las Vegas in the UFL. For whatever reason however, and I'm sure it's a huge IF we all don't know about, he's been passed over for a variety of head coaching openings over the last several years.
  18. I'm tired of hearing the names Billick, Cowher, Gruden, etc. More guys that have been out of the NFL for years. The game evolves year to year and it will pass you by. Getting one of those guys..you'd have serious growing pains as they get caught up for the years missed, rebooting the team in the image that worked for them back in the day...not really knowing if it's still relevant. If you *had* to dig up an ex-coach, at least look at the guys who used to be in the UFL (Fassel, Green, etc.) At least those guys are still coaching and generally more up to date with the intricacies of the game.
  19. Been a Spurs fan since 1986. The Spurs are discounted every year. Robinson/Duncan too nice, Spurs too boring, too old, etc. Four championships under their belt and they always contend.
  20. Reminds me of Jauron canning the Turk. Desperate to keep the head coaching job. That being said, the Eagles should have beaten the Lions. The Lions employ a near identical version of the Wide/9. The offense should have known how to beat it. The defense should have mixed things up a bit since Stafford practices against that D every week and knows what's coming.
  21. Again, I see this as another coaching problem, not a player problem. Gailey's gameplan does not match what Fitzpatrick does well. Gailey hasn't adjusted the plan to what Fitzpatrick can give you. Gailey runs this ridiculous spread offense despite having two fine running backs, massive offensive line, massive fullback and a quarterback whose skills are more appropriate for a smart quarterback with limited arm strength...WCO type of strategy.
  22. Tashard Choice is something guys like Kelsay and Fitzpatrick aren't. He's not complacent. Choice can be cut at any time. He's got no guaranteed contract. He's not guaranteed to be here next year. He's been cut by several teams because he didn't perform. He's motivated. These other guys have their contracts. They haven't been benched or cut for being horrible. In fact, they keep starting and playing no matter how horrible they play, no matter if the team wins or loses. Even Jackson and Spiller can become complacent. At worst, they share carries. It's not like Gailey will ultimately award one of them all the carries and the other one sits indefinetly. For most of the guys you'd turn to for leadership, there is nothing that *personally* motivates them. They have the money and job security locked up. It's one of the reasons the Bill up in New England is successful. He's a total *What Have You Done for Me Lately* kind of coach. Players know that if you don't perform, you'll be benched and/or cut, regardless of who you are. That Sword of Damocles doesn't exist under Gailey.
  23. I really like the nickname. From a historical and strategic context, it's exceptionally appropriate for the defensive line right now.
  24. Bill Cowher? You kid, right? Cowher has been out of the game for a long time now. Much like we're seeing with Wannstedt/Gailey, What may have worked in the past doesn't necessarily work now. The best coaches in the NFL win the game of adjustments in how the game is played. Cowher doesn't strike me as a guy who can make those adjustments. He's a stonecutter. He'll keep chipping away at it until he gets it. We're already doing that with Gailey. It took Cowher nearly two decades to get a Super Bowl ring. Should Gailey be fired, I'd be interested in seeing the Bills interview Fewell or Chudzinski.
