  1. The difference between smoking and bad food is that smoking is a personal choice. You pay for the cigs and you smoke them. You know the consequences. It's like alcohol. It's out there. You choose to drink it or not. With food, nearly everything is "bad" these days with high sodium, high fructose corn syrup, etc. in almost everything we eat. If you don't have a lot of money, you're spending it on the cheap junk food and unless you're incredibly mindful of labels, everyone is probably eating too much sugar and sodium on a daily basis. You add in that kids don't get enough recess and gym time, and adults generally don't exercise enough to offset the bad food, and it's a big problem with a lot of choice removed.
  2. The Bills got who they wanted for a coach. They didn't see their candidate snapped up by another team. It was timely and efficient. There was no long tortured process like the Eagles which didn't sprinkle doubt, butdropped it in from a coal truck with a chute for the fan base; You didn't hire a man running away from serious emotional problems and leaving a program still on fire like Andy Reid; You don't spend weeks hiring GMs and then hiring whatever coaches are left like San Diego and Jacksonville. I thought the Bills handled this coach search as well as any team could. It was professionally done.
  3. Everytime I hear this guy's name I think of the movie Eraser and James Caan...and how he doesn't do movies anymore.
  4. I'm not really bothered by the hire. I think teams place differing levels of emphasis on special teams. ...and let's face it, your ST unit strength is based on the quality of the players on it. You need at least one Chris Chamberlain or Marcus Hudson...or Steve Tasker. ...and it wasn't coaching that wrecked us all January 8, 2000.
  5. I can support this IF...the guy who did the honey badger video agrees to do the 2013 Year In Review for the Bills.
  6. I think it's an inspired hire. My problem with Chan's playcalling is that if everyone in the stadium knew what was going to happen, the oppossing defense knew that play and the next five. With a younger coordinator that doesn't have tape to analyze outside college ball, I see that as an advantage. I also have a tendancy to think that a younger coordinator is comfortable with making adjustments at halftime or from series to series, if neccessary.
  7. I'm not on either side of the great T'eo debate but I get the impression that blue chip defensive talent shows up in the big bowl games. I don't follow college football as closely as some of you. I do get the impression that Alabama is as close to NFL caliber talent that there is in college footballl these days so yeah, a casual observer like me looks at how someone competes against it.
  8. Ah, I gotcha. Thanks for that.
  9. What's an offset? What does discussing "offsets" mean?
  10. I agree 100%. You want to take a loan out from the First National Bank of Traumatic Events, that's fine, and that's what he did. When a son or daughter dies, you just don't take the weekend to grieve, show back up on Monday and proclaim you're fine. You just have to repay it sooner or later like any debt. You can't avoid it by keeping busy. I thought he was mentally checked out and looked mentally and emotionally exhausted this season and I don't see how that changes in KC. I don't think his mind nor heart is in football despite whatever lies he'll tell you. He's just another man running away from his problems.
  11. Bengals...for something ridiculously different and unforseen. I'd enjoy an obscure Vikings/Bengals tilt.
  12. Ray Horton is my choice amongst all the announced candidates. I think he brings exactly what the Bills need in terms of coaching leadership.
  13. They interviewed Atlanta ST coach Keith Armstrong.
  14. Let's say the Bills do in fact hire Chip Kelly. Who would be the quarterback? Out of NFL free agents and QBs in the draft, who would be the best fit in your opinion?
  15. If CBS wants some variety, they can all make us CBS employees for the day and we can make up stuff. I'm sure the Bills have made no decisions on QBs because that will largely depend on the style of the head coach/coaching staff they ultimately hire. They aren't going to make that decision without that input. For example, in the world of possibilities, Buffalo Bills head coach Chip Kelly has no use for a QB like Alex Smith.
  16. The Cardinals are my adopted NFC team and have followed them for ten years, watching almost as intently as being a Bills fan. Whisenhunt wouldn't be an inspiring choice by Buddy and the gang. I hate coaches that refuse to adapt to changing circumstances on the field and the game and Whisenhunt was ten times more stubborn in changing anything than Chan Gailey ever was. He never changed the plan to adapt to the skill set of his quarterback most importantly. That stonecutter mentality just doesn't work in the NFL anymore and I'd hate to see the Bills get another one.
  17. I openly LOLed at San Diego being rated that high for several of the reasons you've already mentioned. California is super expensive to live in. The Murph (refuse to call it Qualcomm) is an ancient stadium too by modern standards and I don't think the City is ever going to find the resources to build a new one.
  18. I don't want the Tampa-2 or his inability over the number of years to find an OC that can direct a potent, consistent offense. I like the guy but no.
  19. I agree 100%. I thought he should have taken the year off just to give him time to grieve and heal. And I hope he takes this opportunity to do that.
  20. My top 3: Marc Trestman Rich Bisaccia Ray Horton
  21. You get the impression of a power struggle between Nix and Brandon.
  22. Plenty of time for contracts. Long months of January and February to exchange proposals. You also have to factor in that if there are any front office/coaching changes coming, that plays a role in what players to keep. Besides, when it comes to contract negotiations, I never believe what is filtered to the media. It's usually done deliberately, almost always 100% false and always 100% done to seek perceived leverage. FWIW, I think the Bills keep both Byrd and Levitre so long as the players want to stay in Buffalo.
  23. I think OAK might keep the GM and can the coach because it's Mark Davis and well it's Mark Davis. I say DET with Schwartz because he's taken heavy critiscism for the undisciplined, inconsistent play of the team on numerious occassions and its considerable regression this year. I agree both would be unlikely.
  24. Clayton is being really optimistic. I think it's realistic that both teams break out the bleach and disinfect. In Buffalo, I'm convinced Chan isn't retained and Nix retires. IN NY, I think Tannenbaum is a goner, and the new GM hires his own coach. I think this offseason is going to be an eye opener with plenty of franchises firing coaches/GMs. You've got NY, BUF, PHI, SD, ARI, CHI, KC and even TEN and OAK...as all possibilities, not to mention if the Ford Family is anxious in DET and replaces Schwartz.
  25. He's a difficult man to get along with and has had very tenuous relationships with both Hawaii and SMU administrations and boosters for a variety of reasons. He's been successful but the bridges are all wired to explode. His offense has generally been figured out at the college level meaning it's 100% exposed at the NFL level. SMU played very well in the bowl game, and have...they've won consectutive bowls. However, the SMU defense and their running game carried the team more often than the passing attack. Sometimes that passing attack would barely generate 200 yards in a game.
