It takes a lifetime to build a good reputation and an instant to ruin it. Don't do the things that ruin it. You know exactly what they are. In any negotiation, avoid making the first offer. Always use the word "we" when referring to your favorite team, your country and your government. (Even if you don't like it.) Never tell your dad he's lost a step.

The Auto Bailout Worked
dpberr replied to Trump_is_Mentally_fit's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The problem is both consumer confidence and credit are at stall speed and the age of vehicles on the road remains at 11 years plus. I don't disagree the bailout "worked" in that it prevented certain doom for certain automakers then but today they face strong head winds on the demand side. -
Is Jameis Winston really worth 1st pick overall?
dpberr replied to Cold Front's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If I'm the Bucs, this is the perfect year to trade out of the #1 slot and feel good about it. No clear cut bonafide superstar to be in the draft, so why bother? I don't think Mariota has what it takes and Winston will always have off the field issues to contend with that put him in jeopardy of routine suspension. -
April Movies: Furious 7, Paul Blart, & Unfriended
dpberr replied to Mark Vader's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I'm impressed with what they've done with teh F&F franchise. They have turned it from a rather formulaic series about outlaw car racing to an interesting hybrid of Ocean's 11 and Mission Impossible. -
I hope both she and Jeb Bush flame out well before the conventions. I'm sick of having to vote between Clintons and Bushes and I've had my fill of Clinton and Bush presidencies. I hope both parties find more viable candidates.

Loved the show. Especially the insane pairing of compound bows, arrows and sticks of dynamite. And...one of the better theme songs made. Shows today can't even get a sniff of the creativitiy of 80s action television.

LOST, a look back from a writer NOT named TGREG
dpberr replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Everytime I watch Person of Interest my brain says "Hey, that's Benjamin Linus!" The problem with any JJ Abrams production whether it was Alias or Lost is that he gets bored and loses interest and the story just becomes a mess. -
Another vote for Dick Enberg and Merlin Olsen.

A fine tribute well written.

Germanwings - One of the pilots locked out of cockpit?
dpberr replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in Off the Wall Archives
Much like the !@#$ that flew EgyptAir 990 into the Atlantic Ocean in 1999, you've got to really be one of the world's biggest, most complete !@#$s to take 149 other completely innocent people to their deaths during your suicide. Between the suicides, gross pilot error (Air France 447), and unanswered questions (Malyasia 370) the industry outside the US has some big problems with its pilots. -
Who would you rather have, of all of these?
dpberr replied to The Real Buffalo Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tiup of the hat to the OP, I love polls like this. They are entertaining. For me it came down to Gailey and Marrone. Chan Gailey: Good tactician, hired lousy staff. Doug Marrone: Terrible tactician, hired pretty good staff. Winner: Gailey. As for quarterbacks if I had to take any one of those guys in his prime to win a single game, it has to be RJ. -
So we're not interested in Flozell Adams now?

I think we'll agree to disagree on this one. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Subaru went to a VW "Haldex" design for their cars with CVTs. There is a reason why. Subaru's primary design flaw besides obsolete tech pre-CVT is that their system required required a very heavy front to the car whereas Haldex on a vehicle with more evenly distributed weight, provides better traction and control going up and down terrain and slope. Subaru is hell bent on making a crazy fuel efficent car so they dropped a CVT and lighter engine in it and made the car overall, lighter. Their old AWD tech doesnt' work with that concept. As for Jeeps....depends. Their older last decade vehicles used a 60/40 AWD system (when it detects a slip) with a driver optional 50/50 lock. I don't know about the new ones post Fiat ownership. I've owned all three and drive in a lot of bad PA/NY/NJ weather. As far as AWD/4x4 is concerned, while the Jeep lacks a lot of refinement compared to VW and Subaru, it's the tank I want in bad weather. I think VW provides a good balance and found the Subaru underpowered and lacks required torque.
-
My $.02 If you want a relatively inexpensive 4x4, take a look at the Jeep Patriot. (Not the Compass.) It's probably the lowest priced 4x4 on the market today. If you need AWD or 4x4, I think Jeep and VW make the best software.

An article from CBS Sports. The Raiders on a basic level have a problem funding contracts for free agents. They have lots of cap money but don't have the *real* money to make it work. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/jason-la-canfora/25102744/why-the-raiders-must-spend-but-cant-get-anybody-to-take-their-money

Is this finally the end of the Patriots dominance?
dpberr replied to Bubba Gump's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Down years are part of the financial model. Teams can't take the salary cap all the way to the top year after year. You mortgage the high cap years against inevitabily coming back down to earth for a few years in terms of spending. The Ravens are surgical with this approach. I have a feeling that after yet another trophy, the Patriots will save some money this year and play out 2015 with the team constructed largely as is post-cuts and see what happens. I'm sure they will be competitive. -
WR Percy Harvin's first visit is with Bills
dpberr replied to Punch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am ok with the Bills acquiring and adding as much talent as they can find right now. Training camp and preseason will sort it out before Week 1. Much like the rest of us in our jobs and lives, sometimes we just need to find or fall into the right situation. -
When you look at Philly you see a team that has no QB, no WRs, no healed and healthy MLBs between Alonso and Ryans (torn Achilles), no defensive backfield outside Byron Maxwell. They have a decent OL and DL. All football personeel decisions are being made by a coach with precisely TWO YEARS of NFL coaching experience and ten minutes of NFL personnel experience. Why would Gore leave a grease fire in SF to go play in the middle of a tire fire?

Insider information discussion - Contain no insider info
dpberr replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love the insider information. I think it's up to each individual fan/poster on whether you feel it is legitimate or plausible. I always wondered if George Seifert was indeed sitting/standing/enjoying a coffee at any Buffalo area airport anytime that year. On the flip side, somebody broke the news of something preposterous on first glance - Mario Williams in Buffalo, talking deal? -
FWIW, (and maybe not much at all), there is buzz in the Philadelphia market that the Eagles are very interested in acquiring Kaepernick. Should that happen, and with Sanchez coming back, that would in theory, make Nick Foles expendable.

That's a really odd pairing.

Guess the Bills Free Agent Signings
dpberr replied to Buffalo Destroyers!'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Doug Free, T Mike Iupati, G Brooks Reed (Jerry Hughes reclamation project 2.0) Henry Hynoski/Cory Harkey (Top shelf run blockers) (Assumes Jerry Hughes isn't resigned and that the Bills find TE additions via draft) -
2015 Summer Movie Preview: Avengers, Jurassic, Pan, Ant-Man
dpberr replied to Mark Vader's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Agreed. I didn't find Salvation to be a truly terrible movie. Much like the 3rd installment, it had it's moments. I'm surprised the Terminator franchise didn't ditch the whole "send the emotionally challenged robot from the future" script and replace at least one of the movies with no cyborgs but with a sci-fi/conspiracy story. Skynet was destroyed but some evil corporation, government, etc. is hell bent on getting that band back together, piece by piece. The TV series with Lena Headley went somewhat in that direction before it was cancelled. You wonder if there will be superhero fatigue. There are a lot in this new Avengers/Expendables-Lite movie, and with studio persistence in endless reboots of Batman and Spiderman and countless other solo pictures coming out, will people get bored? Speaking of Expendables, I see that's going to be a TV series now. Perhaps Carl Weathers can finally make it in one. -
Jerry Hughes signs 5-year deal with Bills
dpberr replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly. I like Jerry and would like to see him stay in a Bills uniform but I also acknowledge he's a system guy. If a team thinks they can just throw him on any defense and he'll produce double digit sack totals, the Colts would beg to differ.
