  1. I learned that I actually prefer an aluminum foil ball in the dryer versus the fabric softener sheets I've always used.
  2. He probably wants guaranteed money just to show up to camp and no team is going to do that for a 31 year old lineman with two major knee surgeries.
  3. Cable news is going the way of ESPN - its all pundits, lots of shouting, very little newscast. When you compare cable news and ESPN from even ten years ago - you had a lot more traditional newscasting and stories. Now it's just wall to wall pundits regardless of the channel. I don't watch NFLN NBA or MLB for the same reason. Too much opinion, not enough news.
  4. Probably asking for a reasonable amount BUT wants it guaranteed. The thing I'd worry about is his left ACL. That can't be too far behind the twice torn right one.
  5. Gregg Popovich. He's responsible for the most selfless and successful culture in all of modern day North American professional sports.
  6. Obama has been a boon for the gun market in the United States. Record sales. Record permits. He's done more to arm American than any one person in American history. He's been able to achieve that on two fronts. One, the desire to ban certain firearms. Creates demand. Two, when Americans don't feel safe, they start arming themselves and this administration does very little to reassure the public they are on the case.
  7. I think the problem is the team is giving the media and fans too much access. Less is more. Especially in the off season. I don't agree with Whaley and the Ryans doing all the press they do. I wish they'd do zero.
  8. I think crowd hysteria and a zoo director freaking out led to this conclusion. I'm just really surprised the "protocol" for this type of situation happening at a zoo is for said zoo to shoot the animal dead. If that's the contingency plan, can't wait to see the inspired choices for the poisonous snakes or the owl cage. If I'm the zoo, I'd sue the parents. On some level their lack of parenting skills led to the reluctant destruction of property.
  9. This season will either be the best season we've all experienced since 1999 or the very worst. I suppose we can look forward to it being magnanimous either way.
  10. I don't think GSW can win a game in Oklahoma City unless they kick all of OKCs players in the nuts.
  11. I'm bored with all these recycled ideas. I will say that TNG became great because they made changes that turned out to be home runs, not strikeouts. The casting of Patrick Stewart for example wasn't met with the most excited fanfare (A theater actor playing the Captain! Blasphemy!) but turned out to be excellent. Instead of going for young hot things, they actually had a cast of established, older actors and actresses. A novel idea today. They introduced new things like holodecks and interesting new foes like the Borg and Q. They were one of the first shows to pull off serial storytelling in the 1990s among a sea of paint by the numbers procedural shows. I thought that TNG was the best of the Star Trek shows because there appeared to be thought put into it from the start and unlike the JJ Abrams storytelling nonsense of today, they tied up the show quite nicely when it ended.
  12. I don't think he's been physically well the last several years.
  13. That mid-season finale was weird and terrible. This is what happens when writers don't have source material to fall back on. You just start winging it.
  14. They are passable CBs. You can do a lot worse. It's just that both of those guys will drive the Eagles fan base insane with their ill timed penalties and mistakes. McKelvin is the defensive equivalent of the Fitzpatrick fourth quarter interception.
  15. I feel bad for her. You could see the hurt and embarrassment in her face.
  16. Wash Your Hands Always Be Washing. I'm amazed at how many people don't.
  17. OKC is the most physical team in the playoffs and that matters. Should the Spurs fall, I wouldn't be surprised to see them beat GSW. They just beat you to death and GSW, like the Spurs, aren't used to getting bludgeoned like that. OKC changed their tactics after the Game 1 blowout to SA and it's been different ever since. I don't think Cleveland stands a chance against either SA, OKC or GSW. They have played creampuff teams in the playoffs and that provides this appearance of consistent 3 point shooting that against a real defense - isn't there. As a long time Spurs fan, while I expect this series to go to a brutal Game 7, I admit the Spurs got real old in this playoff round. Tim and Manu are completely done and Tony and David West really aren't all that far behind realistically. The last great hurrah.
  18. I will offer one. During the 70s and into the early 80s, Paterno often flirted with taking head coaching positions in the NFL, namely with the Patriots. Obviously, the information about Sandusky getting out would have prevented NFL teams from looking at him for those jobs. Even worse, he could have taken that job and THEN the information comes out, and he'd be fired, never to coach again at any level. As time went on and PSU became one of the most successful programs in the country, it became more about protecting THE program from all that has since transpired. In some ways, I think Paterno stayed at Penn State to control and manage this and other unpleasant issues.
  19. I will always feel bad for Marcus Lattimore.
  20. The way I see it is that nothing will get done in a Clinton presidency. The inactivity will make the Obama years look like the golden age of accomplishment. Republicans have a deep seated hatred AND mistrust of her that isn't going away. With a Trump presidency, there's the chance that something can be accomplished. He's not beholden to the ultra right wingers (who enjoy litigating decades old topics like abortion and down with the homosexuals!) or the ultra left liberals (who believe everything should be free, and yes, of course you're oppressed and we should feel guilty about it). Sure people don't like him or find him arrogant or repugnant but Trump is not chained to things like Whitewater, Clinton impeachment, Benghazi, email servers, etc. Of the two people, IMO, he's the better shot at getting things done via compromise. Now, if you belong to camps that believe that there should never be compromise on anything ever, you'll disagree.
  21. Penn State is a weird cult. It could come out as fact that Paterno knew about Sandusky's child abuse since 1976 and they'd STILL want JoePa's statue returned and rail against the "conspiracy" against the University. In some ways Paterno's blind eye towards the whole thing is worse. In a position to stop it. Did absolutely nothing. Lots of kids paid the price for that.
  22. I handle real estate trust issues for my family and extended family. I've had this question come up a few times. What I can tell you is that the most important step in deciding on a course of action is having a brutally honest conversation with yourself. A conversation about when you'd like to retire and when you really can retire. Your debt situation. Your health. The two big issues are debt and health care expenses. A lot of people are underestimating what they will need for healthcare. A lot of people are carrying mortgages and credit card debt with payments that work on a "working" income but are downright crippling on a fixed income. One of my relatives continues to work and he's now 71. Healthy man. Since a traditional IRA caps at 70.5, he kept a lot in traditional IRAs up until he was 68 or so and then switched everything over. He didn't want to start to taking the mandatory disbursements and he wanted to keep putting money away.
  23. I took a look at that 2000 Baltimore Ravens playbook. After that, it's not a half bad idea. For those of you who dismiss it, don't you feel Preston Brown would have benefited from some classroom learning about the defense?
  24. I picked the Bills. They slightly edge out Jacksonville for putting together the smartest, well thought out draft from Pick #1 to the UDFAs. I'm with many others here - this was one of the franchise's better drafts.
