  1. The difference between a 3-4 and a 4-3 isn't that dramatic IMO. There are some subtle differences that require different talents (for example, a dominant NT required for a 3-4) but the schemes are similar enough that IMO a great defense should be able to run both in a single game. I remember back in the mid-90s we had a slew of LB injuries so Wade Phillips turned us from a 3-4 to a 4-3 in one week's time. We played Miami that week and Marino was LOST against a defense they hadn't prepared for. Why can't this be the case every week? IMO it can and should be part of any good defensive system. Throw in some forty six for even more diversity and watch opposing offenses panic.
  2. WAY too early for this conversation. It was casually mentioned in a press conference. We haven't even signed a DC yet.
  3. I refuse to support the team financially until I feel they are giving 100% to put a winner on the field. Right now I don't feel that way. I'm still a fan but if this team wants a dime from me I need to feel that they're truly trying to build a winning team, not just survive in the modern mediocre NFL.
  4. See, that's the thing for me. I have NO faith that the Bills will win the Superbowl. NONE. I'm still a fan. I have to be. As someone said in another thread, once you're a Bills fan you're grandfathered in for life. But this team is NOT going to win the Superbowl anytime soon. We are marred in mediocrity. Nobody wants to play for the "raiders of the east coast"...in a depressed city known for its blizzards. I don't see this team ever being truly competitive again...not in terms of winning a Superbowl, at least. But being a fan is in my blood. So here I am. Go Gailey.
  5. Why do you have to wait for the Colts? This scenario plays out all the time. Take the 49ers for instance. Young retired in 1999. It has been 10 years and they haven't found a decent replacement. They're getting closer, but not there yet. And in the mean time attendance has struggled.
  6. Were you around when the Buffalo Braves INTENTIONALLY cheaped out? They did it to drive fans away, so they'd have an excuse to relocate. Worked like a charm. but back on the Bills, I'm not worried that they'll leave. It's not something worth my 'worry'. If it happens I'm simply done as a Bills fan, plain and simple. In the mean time, I'm in "show me" mode. I'm giving the Bills the benefit of the doubt with Gailey. I'm not "jumping ship". But I'm also not dillusional about the state of the franchise like some of you seem to be.
  7. I don't even have a strong opinion of Gailey. Want to know why this franchise is in trouble? Because it is an unattractive place to play (as voted by players) and coach (as shown by this coaching search). It is a franchise in a shrinking market that has a depressed economy. It is a franchise that hopes to sustain its place in WNY by selling its soul to Toronto and 'regionalizing'...a marketing strategy that I absolutely agree with because it's the only way the Bills can survive in Buffalo. It's a team that sooner than later will be faced with the uncertainty of not having an owner. It is a team that hasn't gone to the playoffs in a decade and hasn't been a real postseason threat in 15 years. This franchise is in chaos right now. The last thing it can afford is to do is bleed fans by making decisions that are not believed (by fans) to be the right decisions to make this team a winner again. Now if Gailey rights the ship, fair enough. I'll be the first guy to congratulate Nix on knowing something that the rest of us didn't. But if Gailey becomes the next Jauron, I'm not sure the franchise can recover. This may be the beginning of the end for the Bills in Buffalo. If the fanbase really turns that apathetic towards the hapless Bills, they may have no choice but to move to toronto or los angeles and start fresh with a new fanbase.
  8. What you guys don't seem to appreciate is that for every "troll" who posts one of these farewell letters there are thousands of other people who aren't leaving a letter. They're simply giving up and going away, like you guys want. This franchise is in DEEP trouble because right now it is BLEEDING fans.
  9. Wow, a whole city, a waste of space. Kinda harsh.
  10. I didn't say anything about Panthers fans. Panthers fans are actually few and far between in my office. In my department we have a Pats fan, two steelers fans, a jets fan, a redskins fans, and two Bills fans (myself included).
  11. Used to go there regularly. Paul Bussman runs the show. I also occasionally go to Tavern on the tracks. We used to go to Township. I live near Carowinds so Tavern at Fort Mill is a short drive for us.
  12. Charlotte is coming around. The Center city is far more than a "couple of parking garages surrounded by suburbs". It's actually a very nice city to live in. But the social fabric of the city is not sewn tight like it is in Buffalo, because nobody in Charlotte is originally FROM Charlotte. ...and there is NO good pizza here.
  13. Wow, the rationalization in this post is astounding.
  14. I live in Charlotte. My desk is littered with Bills stuff. The guy that sits next to me is a Bills fan too. People laughed out loud at us today. LAUGHED OUT LOUD.
  15. Give Chan 10 hall of famers and he'll be just fine...just like Marv.
  16. Why should anyone have to keep their opinions to themselves on a message board? Maybe YOU should keep your HAPPY opinions to yourself? Of course not. You're entitled to your pipedream happy happy joy joy opinions just as others are entitled to their doom and gloom opinions.
  17. What did he say about Oakland?
  18. You holier-than-thou types with no standards sleigh me.
  19. This just in: Levy wasn't a great x's and o's coach. His coordinators were nothing to write home about either. The best thing he did was keep egos in check. We got BADLY outcoached in every superbowl. HOF talent made Levy a HOF coach, not the other way around.
  20. Carolina Panthers. If you're a Cowher fan, he'll be there soon.
  21. Not sure about that. All those Bills fans at away games? They're not traveling fans. They're transplants. I live in Charlotte and have seen in first hand.
  22. Wow, he got shredded. The truth is Buffalo is fine as a football market. It's not a very small market, really. Including canadian fans and die-hard Rochester fans, you're talking about a market of over 2 million people. That puts Buffalo on par with cities like Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Tampa, and Denver. Buffalo is also not sports saturated, with only one other competing professional team (the Sabres)...so I'd say Buffalo, while not the strongest market, is an okay middle-of-the-pack market. There are surely other weaker markets.
  23. I don't think the D is good enough. The front 7 needs upgrading all over the place. Ellison should not be a starter. Mitchell can start but I'd prefer someone a bit more agile at that position. Maybin needs to come into his own. Stroud and Schobel aren't getting any younger. Teams ran all over us this year and we'll see the same thing next year if we don't find some upgrades.
