  1. Agreed. I think this guy is destined to be hired.
  2. What we have is personnel for a 4-3. Howevah, we can play more aggressive schemes from a 4-3. We don't have to sit back in read-and-react zone all the time. I can't stress enough how much I think we have to blitz more. What is the strength of our D? Our secondary. What part of the defense is pressure put on by blitzing? The secondary. Doesn't it just make sense to shift the pressure to our defense's strength?
  3. Anderson was so unathletic...and he had short arms. He was a stumpy guy with no agility.
  4. Can't disagree with that...but until you're on the field with a giant RB bearing down on you, I'm not sure you can really judge Kelso for that play.
  5. The guy started as a WR coach for green bay...and look at what Sterling Sharpe did. The guy worked as a QB coach for the Colts...and look at what Jim Harbaugh did (not the best QB ever...got his team to within a game of the superbowl). The guy worked as a QB coach for the Cowboys...the Cowboys had just about the fewest INTs in the league. The guy worked as a WR coach for Ga Tech...look at what "Fast Freddie" Smith...with Geis as QB coach, GA Tech sent at least one WR to the pros for 3 straight years...we're talking about GA Tech here. He also coached Calvin Johnson.
  6. Burying your head in the sand and pretending everything is hunkey dorey never fixed anything either. I find watching the Bills lose unenjoyable. Is that wrong of me?
  7. Kelso was the smartest guy on the field. The problem was he had about as much power as if we had thrown Marv out on the field. We rarely got beat deep with Kelso playing outfield. I'm not sure why he takes so much abuse on these boards. As for the OJ Anderson run, you're asking your free safety to take on a giant RB. Ask yourself where all his teammates were on that play.
  8. http://ramblinwreck.cstv.com/sports/m-foot...is_buddy00.html Decent resume'.
  9. What do you guys think? He goes way back with Chan. He is old school but a good offensive mind. Very experienced. He could be that pseudo-offensive coordinator Chan is looking for.
  10. Good example of someone who was the extreme in one category but the extreme OPPOSITE in another. Bledsoe is similar. Also, in terms of 'soft', there are a number of good defenders who simply tackled soft. They never struck fear into opponents. On that list are guys like Bryce Paup and Jay Foreman.
  11. This is a spinoff from the "mobile, agile, and hostile" thread. Who are the SOFTEST or LEAST AGILE Buffalo Bills you can think of? My list: Mike Williams - a big teddy bear. No mean streak whatsoever. Always overweight and slow. Lonnie Johnson - his name is Lonnie. 'nuff said. Erik Flowers - perhaps the most timid defensive lineman I've ever seen in a Bills uniform. Eddie Robinson - got deked for a touchdown by Chad Pennington. 'nuff said. Please add to the list.
  12. Wood, Butler, and Incognito could be part of the NASTIEST offensive line in football, when they're all healthy and together. I would NOT want to face an offensive line with those three guys. But other than them, do we really have ANY hostile players? I mean guys with a true mean streak? We seem like a very polite team...and I hate that. I want other teams to cringe at the thought of having to play us. Right now...they don't.
  13. ^and as another poster pointed out, the 3-4 can be extremely UNaggressive, if your coordinator is, say, Walt Corey or Ted Cottrell. The 3-4 is not a magical aggressive scheme. If you want aggressive, go double eagle (forty six) and let's have some fun.
  14. The 3-4 is more versatile, but all it really means is that you have 3 down linemen and 4 linebackers. You can rush 3, send a linebacker and rush 4, send two linebackers (or a DB) and blitz, or zone dog from it. But You can just as easily drop into a cover 2 zone. Many teams do this. You guys really think that "3-4" means the cover-2 magically goes away? Teams were running cover 2 defenses long before tampa made it their base defense...and the only reason they did it is because their front 4 was so dominant that they could generate an incredible pass rush without ever needing to send a 5th guy at the QB.
  15. We are talking about what we HOPE our defense can BECOME.
  16. Going to a 3-4 doesn't magically make a defense better. You still have to run it right. We're talking an awful lot about how the 3-4 is going to cure all our ills...while we still have no clue who will be running the defensive show. We could still run a conservative tampa 2 shell from a base 3-4. I'm hoping our next DC comes in and decides to install an aggressive D, whether it's a 4-3, 3-4, or 50 alignment (bring back the double eagle).
  17. You can run a tampa-2 from both a 4-3 and a 3-4. "Tampa-2" simply means two deep zone as your base D. Nothing would have to be "gutted" to make the conversion to a 3-4, but we don't have enough quality linebackers or monster NT to make a 3-4 work right now. The fact that we run "tampa-2" has nothing to do with it.
  18. I have to say (and this seems like an appropriate place to bring this up), I think Stroud is really starting to show his age. He is no longer a dominant force inside. He is now a serviceable veteran DT and nothing more. He still makes some plays but generally speaking he is not what he used to be by any means.
  19. Agreed. Not sure if he's simply not comfortable in a cover two or if he's really just that bad.
  20. Maybin got up to 250 through a special combine-training program. After the combine he 'returned to normal' and is typically around 230. He needs to start by packing on a LEGITIMATE 20 pounds of muscle. Then we can talk about putting on extra mass. http://www.powertrainsports.com/combine-training.php
  21. I know what to tell ya. We have too many CBs. We have 3 starting-caliber (albeit not legi shut-down) CBs. We should probably trade one of 'em to fill a need elsewhere. What if we trade Mcgee (our most valuable CB) to get a quality LB? or NT? Then Florence and McKelvin start with Corner at nickel. We shore up our front 3 (in a 3-4) and still have quality CBs. Just thinking outside the box.
  22. QB - Brohm RB - Jackson LT - Butler LG - Levitre C - Hangartner RG - Wood RT - Bell TE - Nelson WR - Evans WR - Hardy WR - Johnson DE - Kelsay DT - Williams DT - Stroud DT - Johnson DE - Maybin LB - Poz LB - Mclain (draft) CB - McKelvin CB - McGee CB - Wilson FS - Byrd 5-2 defense :-P
  23. Do you truly believe the Bills are giving 100% to give us a winning team? Simple question.
