NEXT PICK IS: (Speculation)
webtoe replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What's wrong with OT Meredith from SC. Admittedly I only know what I read, but he sounds like he would be a pretty solid pick about now. -
17 picks in 3 years! That certainly sounds like ball skills that we have not seen in our backfield in a while. They also said the strength was route recognition, which would seem to fit with FS, or maybe slot CB Not thrilled with the pick, but that info increases the rationale for the pick

You need to move the decimal one place...the result of that calculation would actually be 35%.

Speaking of curvreball draft picks......
webtoe replied to JStranger76's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Technically, he was not suspended but ruled academically ineligable. However, he stayed in school instead of entering the Draft, and became a stand-out. My wife is a BC grad so I watched a lot of their games, and he is the total package as a DT, and would be a great pick for the Bills. -
At this point the only thing that can save us

I know it is blasphemy to say here, but that is exactly what happened in the early 90's. Marv was never a great gameday coach, Kelly called his own plays and Walt Corey was a disaster as a defensive coordinator. There was just too much talent on that team (thanks to Polian) for other teams in the AFC to compete. But when there was two weeks to prepare for a Superbowl, they were always outcoached. -
agreed. The play call was fine. Safe roll-out, nobody open, throw it away. The 2 minute warning was coming up, so clock was going to stop anyway. JP Sucks!!!!!

As soon as he missed, I said to myself 'Ashton would have made that play'. Injuries suck!!!

I must admit that I never heard the story before, and I am an Alumni (1991). Of course, UB Football was never a big story while I was there. It is nice to see it gaining some national prominence, even if it does cost them it's Coach. 1958 UB Football Team

Hey guys, there is NO reason to be down....
webtoe replied to NavyBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My 12yr old son who has become a Bills fan in Pats* country watched the first half of the game with me. When I recounted for him the end of last night's game, he said he may have to give up on them, because they are just too disappointing. I did not say anything, but would almost encourage it. He is young enough and has no real ties to the area other than through me, so it is not too late for him to start following another team. I on the other hand, like most of you here, appear to be doomed to misery for as long as they remain in Buffalo. -
I think an arguement could also be made for calling the time-out right before punting at the end of the 1st half. There was absolutely no reason for the time-out and completely wasted a possible scoring opportunity after the great punt stuck them inside the 10. There still could have been 45 seconds left when NE punted if they had just done it right away.

The Bills are still 5-3 with 3 winnable games coming up. They are clearly not ready for prime time players yet, but the foundation is there and they still have a legit shot at the play-offs. On offense, I really think it is as easy as saying the Center is the problem (see 3-4 thread). It is the lynch pin of the offense, and needs to be the priority in the off-season. I think the rest of the pieces are in place for a bright future. I am not that concerned about TE. Yes he has had a couple of bad games, but he still shows the skills necessary to be an effective QB. Regarding this past week, that was his first time facing a Belicheat defense that has gameplanned for him. He is not the first QB to look bad in that scenario. Getting Reed back will help. Also, someone needs to wake-up Dockery. On Defense, the coaching has been horrendous. They are playing too cautious. I know that is the MO of the Tampa-2, but with the personnel they have, against the teams like MIA and NE they need to bring pressure on the QB and press the WRs. The teams in the AFC East are all patient and able to dink and dunk with the best of them, especially Pennington and Cassell. Some size at LB and DE need to be priorites in the off-season as well.

3-4 Defense is killing the Bills..the Browns are
webtoe replied to Special K's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In order to run effectively against a 3-4 you have to control the NT. The fact that Center and both Guards are absolutely the weakest area of the team makes that impossible and is the primary reason they cannot run the ball. With the defense able to control the middle with essentially one player, they can commit the LBs to cover the run off-tackle. Also the outside LBs can help cover the quick slants, making TE hold the ball longer to look for somebody. -

Unless there is somebody in FA, I think you just summarized the Top 3 Draft needs next year. Based on traditional depth at the positions it is likely to go: Rd 1) DE Rd 2) Center Rd 3) OLB If either Center or OLB is filled by FA, than replace it with DT or another DE.
-
Until this team gets a Center than can at least hold his own, the running game will suffer. The opposing NT's are controling the line of scrimmage, impacting any pulling the off-guards or tackles are doing, which is freeing up the point of attack for a LB or Safety. The fact that Butler is also out is only accentuating the problem.

Despite the long-stanidng rivalry with the Dolphins, this has all the characteristics of a 'Trap' game that they fell into. Big 'signature' win last week An increase in positive press coverage A road game against an inferior opponent that they had defeated the last 4 times. A motivated divisional opponent Two big Division games coming up (Favre & Pats). Add to that a few key injuries (Schobel, Youbouty, Reed). Afterwards, they came out and said that they were not as prepared as they thought they were. I have full confidence that will not happen the next two weeks, and the Bills will be 7-2 and 2-1 in the Division.

I completely agree. In fact, I have been threatened with revocation of my man-card for watching 'Devils wears Prada' too often.

Mort, back for a visit on the Board I see...

I believe the context of that if during the year the Giants had come to him with a contract offer, he would have accepted less. Since they did not, once he knew he was going to be a UFA he started thinking about where he wanted to end up, which led him here. Their loss is our gain!!!

It seems rather odd that they keep showing it when TB is pitching and it is called a Ball, but they have not yet showed it when the Red Sox pitcher gets a call. The called strike on Pena in the 6th was at least worth a look.
