Lost in QB buzz... No help at WR or TE
PaattMaann replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
you got a link for this? -
We will be keeping picks and doing exactly what you describe, except some will be used to trade up to take our franchise QB too...its a win win, get your QB and use your picks to draft impact players that can help your team for years to come.
-
Unless the Jets make that trade ahead of the draft, no way to Giants pass on Barkley and trade out if hes there
-
if we could somehow hang on to the 22nd pick we might be able to grab Evans there....might be hard to do in a trade up scenario
-
Eating up a double team/holding the line of scrimmage to create a defensive point of attack is critical to stopping the run or not allowing the QB to step up away from pressure Sorry you dont understand
-
you have no idea what the details of the contract are LOL

we will see how many QB needy teams there actually are once the draft comes around. Broncos are already out of the running, and the Jets/Cardinals don't have the ammunition we have even without us giving up our other 1st...we, and others, currently THINK there could be a bidding war to get into the top 5, but we have no clue I am just saying I think there is a WAY for us to get it done without giving up our other first or the rest of our draft. I would be fine giving up our other 1st if it looked something like, both of our firsts and one of our seconds to move up to 3 or 4.
-
making this equal out to the value of the Wentz deal, we could: package 12, our first 2nd rounder, first third rounder and a 2nd round pick next year and move up to 3 or 4.... We would still have: TWO first round picks this year, a 2nd round pick this year, a 3rd round pick this year, a 4th round pick this year, and a 5th and 6th this year....meaning a FULL draft Please shoot holes in this and tell me its unrealistic....because I am getting WAY too excited
-
This right here is what I am thinking, and I could see us taking either Rosen or Mayfield, and would honestly be fine with either...I'll trust the FO and the process. Makes sense from the Giants point of view, and the Browns point of view. Browns want the first two picks to guarantee best player in the draft (Barkley) and their future QB and they have the ammo to move up those two spots. Giants trade down once and pick up an extra 3rd rounder, trade down with us again and pick up a couple more 2's and 3's and we get to keep our other first rounder (22) and don't have to dip into next year. We pick 4 and 22. Browns pick 1 and 2 and still have many draft assets. Giants pick number 12 and now have 2-3 2's and 3's to rebuild their team. Can even still take their QB of the future at 12 (Allen possibly).

its not going to be tough to fit everyone under the cap in a few years because there isnt anyone to fit under the cap...all of these 2/3/4's that we have stockpiled will be used to trade up to 2 or 3 to take our QB....so really you have to pay our new QB in 5 years, which lets all hope to high hell we want to do at that point, whoever we pick at 22 (yes we can keep that pick in a trade up scenario), and then Tre and Dion....very affordable, especially if we don't go giving stupid contracts in the next three years
-
I don't want our FO to just be hoping to land "one of those guys", I want them to identify which one they think is the absolute best and make your move up to guarantee that you get THAT guy, and not settle for the next best QB...this is why another move up is crucial. Sure we could sit at 12 and pick one of those 4 QBs but thats loser mentality and how you get a bust. The FO (and I am thinking/hoping this is what they are doing) better be doing their finest homework ever done to identify which QB they want, zero in on him, trade up to 2 or 3 and take him.

Sammy Watwins to KC on a 3 Year Deal
PaattMaann replied to *******'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Mahomes can certainly throw a deep ball I thought the Chiefs were in cap hell, and thats why they were releasing a bunch of players....and now can throw 16 mill a year at Sammy? Just more fodder for my cannon when people cry about being "close to the cap" or "not having any money to sign FAs" (well, that wont be an issue anyway for the bills for many, many years now) -
The Bills can trade up for their QB this year AND still build the team...they arent one or the others...we would still have at least 3/4 picks this year before end of fifth round and free agency....both can be done. Would it be ideal to use every pick we currently have to build up our roster? HELL YES!!! BUT, if you dont have a QB, nothing else matters. Lets say we wait and dont draft our QB this year, build up the team...where does the QB come from? Getting lucky in the future from a QB falling in the draft to where we pick? I would rather not depend on that, make our own destiny now. The bottom line, I think, is this: if our FO identifies a QB that THEY THINK is a franchise changing QB, they should make the move up to get him. If they dont think that one of these QBs can be a franchise changing QB, then stay put and build the team. Im assuming they think one of these guys can be a franchise changing QB (personally I am hoping its Rosen or Mayfield)

maybe a little context for those who never knew that whoever this Joe Channellly is ever "had it" in the first place? -
Bills interested in Sam Bradford
PaattMaann replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, we don't KNOW that. I have a theory about QBs succeeding being totally connected to time/place/coaches/circumstances surrounding their career. Meaning even God Tom Brady would not be who he is and accomplished what he has if say, he was on the Bills in the same time period. So, it is my belief we have no idea what kind of QB EJ could have been had he been allowed to sit and learn/develop as was the original plan. But really, none of this is neither here nor there. He isn't our QB nor what this thread is about : ) -

1st rounder stunk and had to play quicker than they wanted because Kolb slipped on a mat and injured himself (if I am remembering quickly) -
considering stats is what gets you into the hall of fame I would think that IS actually the deciding factor on whether he gets in or not lol, so how is saying "he wont get in because he doesn't have the stats" ignorant? MV was not the first mobile/athletic QB the NFL had ever seen, so I don't know how much "revolutionizing" he did (Steve Young had more rushing yards in some seasons than Vick did). Nice back track on the "I don't know if he will be or not" after saying "he will most likely be in the hall of fame, and would be in for sure if it wasn't for his dog killing", which was the entire point of my post. He was a talented QB who put up average to below average stats, nothing about that is even close to Hall of Fame consideration.

1. Josh Allen is # 1 - says you 2. harazdous at best - says the guy who obviously hasnt been to bills games? Until late november, so more than half of our home games, weather is not a factor. And then in December most years, the "wind swirls" dont even effect the passing game. This is a fallacy. Maybe if we were talking about kickers here. 3. I agree we could maybe wait and pick one. But I trust our FO. If they think they need to trade up to grab the guy they identify as being the best QB in this class, I am all for giving up whatever is necessary to do so. Would you give up three full drafts to have Tom Brady 8 years ago? Or Aaron Rodgers 8 years ago? I sure would. That guy COULD be in this draft, will never know unless we take a chance.
-
In your opinion there arent any "Alpha QBs", I, and many, disagree. In the future we wont have the ammo or the high draft pick (hopefully) to trade up to get that franchise QB). Strike while the iron is hot. MANY QBs have strong enough arms to deal with the conditions at the Ralph. I sit in the stands for every home game, conditions are overblown. There might be one game every few years where the conditions are terrible, in which case, NO QB can throw. All of the top QBs in this draft have good enough arms to throw the ball in Buffalo lol

I understand the comment about not tying up too many resources in the WR position, but there is no guarantee Richardson will command that kind of money..you may THINK that but we do not know yet. If we were to offer a reasonable contract and he accepts, then its no where near the money you speculate. I agree we shouldn't tie up too much resources in WR though. I do disagree about our stadium conditions not being conducive to throwing, Jim Kelly says hi. We have no clue what McBeane are planning to do in the draft regardless of what they say. They seem like really smart guys, and really smart guys should realize you need a franchise QB to succeed in the NFL. Therefore, If I was a betting man I would bet they use their resources and build through the draft by acquiring the most important position on the team, QB. I don't think our idea on how to build a team is actually that different. You are just confusing what I was referring to with Richardson. Build the trenches, build through the draft, sign key FAs when we identify those who will have the most impact (we paid for Hyde and it worked out, we didnt pay so much for Poyer and it worked out, just as two examples).
-
Ok, him being over paid is an entirely different issue than not bringing in good players. If we can get good players, we should get the good players. Not having a QB on the roster is not a reason to not get the future QB weapons to use once he is acquired. That is ridiculous thinking. Put the pieces around your future QB so he can succeed when we do have him (which, by the way, by all indications, will happen in this draft). Also, since we will likely be using a lot of draft resources this year to acquire out QB, we should do some work in FA to fill roster holes to put that QB in the best position to succeed (Get him some additional weapons). I am not making the case for Richardson only, though I do think he is the best downfield weapon currently available and that is something our current roster is missing.
-
I wouldnt say we are in full rebuild mode. I would say we are, just like we were last year, continuing to build a team. There are two ways to build a team, through FA and the draft. It is good to use both avenues. Why wouldn't Richardson be good for a team that is building? Wouldn't having as many good players as possible help build a team?
