Not only do more then just "some" people out here like Chan, but they talk him up like he's Bill Walsh and his offensive prowess will take the Bills directly to the playoffs this season. I guess I can't blame people for being hopeful and wanting to give Gailey a chance to succeed or fail. But I think the guy is just like Jauron, who was just like Gregg Williams. (Too bad Mularkey decided to quit on Levy, he was the one guy who coached the Bills to a winning record and came within one loss of making the playoffs in '04!) All three brought in inexperienced coordiantors who used to coach with them in the past, and I really don't understand Gailey telling us he would be running the offense and yet still hiring the required inexperienced offensive coordinator on top of that. So what exactly will Curtis Modkins be doing this season? I don't know, but his title is OC. So I'm not impressed with Gailey's staff, and reality tells me he won't even sniff the playoffs this year. And that's too bad, because almost every year one or more teams go from worst to first over one offseason. After 10 years without playoffs, I thought it would not be asking too much for Buffalo to be one of those teams in 2010.

You hate me? Why not just prove me wrong then? I've been a life long Bills fan since the late 60's. Have you? I Cheered for O.J. and his Electric Company and young Fergy, long before the Juice took up cocaine, got away with murder and finally ended up in prison for breaking and entering anyway. I Cheered Chuck Knox and his great defenses. Cheered for Marv and Jimbo and Polians' greatest teams in Bills' history. Cheered for John Butlers' post SB teams that still made the playoffs with Flutie and Moulds. More importantly, I put up with and still went out and cheered for the bad teams in between all those good ones. I went to my first Bills game in 1968 at the real Rock Pile at Best and Genesee. My family had seasons from 1973 to 1985, then I bought my own seasons from 1986 to 1999. So after all those years of being nothing less then a loyal and dedicated Buffalo Bills fan, along came 2000, and Tom freaking Donahoe. Ten seasons later we now have Buddy Nix, and have not been to the playoffs since the Music City Miraculous Forward Lateral. You hate me? Fine. I hate the fact that I've been a Bills fan for so long, and I have never had to go 10 years without seeing them in the playoffs. So I'm cynical, to say the least. But if Nix would have signed Antonio Bryant instead of Chad Jackson, I would have given him profs. Andra Davis was a nice pick up, I'll give him that much. But I still think Gailey is dreaming if he thinks he can coach this team into the playoffs this year.

Mock Draft built for success
BillsPhan replied to FavreDolla_Footlong's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Overall, Buddy would be lucky to duplicate your mock draft above, and I would feel very encouraged to have these guys coming in this season - especially Tebow. -
Looks like his "streak" ends at two. But there's always that number one pick for the 2011 draft, right, ever-patient loyal Bills fans? I love how the guy can get up in front of premium seat holders and hoot and holler about the Bills improving this season, when his "buddy", Buddy, hasn't signed anyone with a "lick" of talent through the first month of free agency. Good luck "coachin' em up", Chan and staff. In the end, it is always the same old story, you need talent to win and make the playoffs in the NFL, and up till now, the Bills still have the least amount of overall talent in the AFC East. And I don't see them having more overall talent then all but 5 other teams in the AFC, so how exactly does ol' Chan "get 'em into them there playoffs this year??"
-
Oh yeah, great move by the sage Buddy Nix. Here's a kid that could not make it at wide receiver with Tom Brady throwing and that line blocking in 2006 and 2007. (Brady only threw for 50 TD passes in 2007.) I'm sure he'll light it up with Edwards/Fitzy/Brohm/??? throwing behind their 2010 line which looks like it will feature more rookies starting on it then even last years. Yes sir, I see only good things for Chad Jackson this season. Way better move then wasting Ralph's unspent money on a veteran WR like Bolden or even Antonio Bryant, right? You know, a WR who might actually know how to get off the line or change up his route to allow his QB to get a throw off before the inevitable sack?? But wait, I keep forgetting, Bill Walsh....er, I mean Chan Gailey is the Bills coach. He is an offensive genius, so I'm sure he and his assistants will "coach 'em up" just fine.
-
Mike Florio is a lawyer/football fan turned "rumor-starter" that somehow got NBC Sports to bankroll his "Pro Football Talk" internet rag. I don't think the guy has ever gotten an interview with anybody of substance who was "on the record." Why would anyone read his articles when he only quotes "my source" as his proof of whatever story he's trying to pass off on his readers?
-
Really?? How can he be coaching the !@#$ing team when apparently he has not even had time to talk to most of his players since he came on board 4 freakin' months ago??? As a head coach in the NFL, since you are so much more of an expert then I, how many months would you wait before you got off your arrogant ass and actually spoke to the players you inherited on your team? 6 months? 8 months? The day before training camp begins??
-
Why thank you. Go ahead and blah blah blah my biggest pile of horse dung post all you want. I'm not sure what Bills team you've been watching the past 10 years, but the one I've been watching has SUCKED. Wilson cleans house for the third time over those 10 years and now you think it's just great to watch Buddy and Chan "take their time and build slowly through the draft". Sorry, but I don't have that kind of patience anymore. There was plenty of talent available that could have had an immediate impact on the field THIS SEASON when free agency started March 1st. Nix ignored those guys. He doesn't need them on his team. Well, he better have the best damn draft in Bills history in a few weeks, or another 7-9-0 season will be your next biggest pile of horse dung you'll have to whine about come January!
-
Here's a thought for you. It is called my "opinion." I don't know what I'm talking about? Look up the answer Gailey gave the media when they asked how long he planned on taking to evaluate his most important position on the team. You will find many different places that all have him saying something along the lines of "...I will know by the start of free agency what direction we will be heading with the QB situation."... So, since you are so much smarter then me - please tell what direction Chan and Buddy are heading with the all important QB situation? So far, it looks a lot like Jauron's direction from this time last year, doesn't it?
-
Great. That leaves Chan with even more time to do...........??

I've known about NFL head coaches sleeping in their offices and spending 110 hour work weeks for years. But this Gailey guy, he doesn't even seem to have time to fit much in even during the off season. Just read some of his quotes: "Our GM has spoken to him (Marshawn Lynch) I have not talked to him." - I say, why the hell not, Chan? He's only a former number one pick who is still extremely young, and if someone can figure out how to work with this kid, they could have a great running back for the next 8 years or so. Or even on the flip side. If you are too "important" to waste your time reaching out to one of your current players on your roster, just how many other teams are going to be interested in trading for him? "He's an intelligent football player and I really enjoyed the short time I had with him....(Talking about Tim Tebows' Buffalo workout). What does Gailey mean, "short time" he had with him? Tebow was in Buffalo, working out only for the Buffalo Bills. Jim Kelly took the kid out to dinner. What other more important dinner plans did Chan have that night? Was he glued in front of his TV watching Dancing With The Stars? Was he and Buddy out shooting pool at their favorite honky tonk while Kelly spent "quality time" with a kid that just might end up being drafted by the Bills?? "We just started talking about terminology and implementation of what we're trying to do," Gailey said of his initial meeting with Edwards, Fitzpatrick and Brohm. "I haven't sat down and talked to (the QB's) about the situation. I haven't addressed that yet." That is a quote from TODAYS' Democrat and Chronicle. Here's the link below: http://www.democratandchronicle.com/articl...e-Bills-starter Wow. So when exactly does Chan expect to "discuss the situation" with the three QB's he allegedly took so much time to study up on the past 3 months? After all, he's made his decision on what to do about the QB situation for his Buffalo Bills, right? He told us in no uncertain terms, he would know what direction he would be going in before free agency started. And here we are, about a month into free agency, and Chan has said nothing to anyone about what he and Nix allegedly decided over a month ago. The same three guys are here, wondering what the hell their roles are going to be, and workouts are starting and we are just a few weeks from the draft. I guess Mike Holmgren has a different take on "making QB decisions." He dumped both guys from last year's team, and has already brought in two veterans to replace them. Now I'm not saying Delhomme and Wallace will be much better then Quinn or Anderson. But at least Holmgren showed his team that he will not accept the same old same old. So far in free agency, Buddy Nix has shown we Bills fans that he is prepared to absolutely accept the same old same old from last years' players that currently take up the most important positions on the team. QB - same 3 guys. LT - same injured guys. NT - same 2 undersized DT's. WR - Same guys minus TO. And on top of that, Chan Gailey has been the busiest head coach in the NFL. Too bad nobody knows what the hell he spends all of that time doing.

A look at last year's starting QBs
BillsPhan replied to Albany,n.y.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
First of all, OUTSTANDING research / post! I like to remind everyone that most of the greatest QB's in NFL history were not 1st round picks. But that is in NFL history. Obviously you prove that NOW, the answer to starting QB is drafting the 1st rounder, and the proof is that any other round or undrafted doesn't even come close. But I don't agree that the Bills are screwed if Nix wanted to draft his 1st round QB this year. And your numbers are my proof that Nix and the Bills are not screwed. Of your list of 17 first round QB's starting today, 12 are GOOD QB's. That comes out to a better then 70% success rate in today's NFL of starting 1st round picks. And those 12 include recent rookies drafted such as Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco. So forget about what the "experts" say about his year's group of 1st round draft-worth QB's. The experts are almost always wrong anyway. (Did any expert predict Joe Flacco to come in and start from game one as a rookie two years ago? I'm sure not.) In the simplest interpretation of your stats, if Nix takes a chance and drafts one of the kids in the first round this year, he has a 70.5% chance of that QB being at least GOOD. And he has two options to do it. The first, obviously, is to draft Bradford or Clausen with his number 9 overall pick. The second is to trade down to a lower first round pick and drafting one of the other kids like Tebow, McCoy or even Pike late in the first round, and gaining another 2nd round choice. Either way, Nix and Whaley and Gailey have good enough drafting reputations behind them that they will still improve the Bills in a major way with the rest of their draft picks!! -
Rebuild or not? Answer this QB question
BillsPhan replied to SawchukBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Of course you are joking, right? Trent Edwards will be throwing 24 TD's and 3,000 yards this season?? I'm sorry, but despite his reputation for getting more out of average QB's, Chan is not a combination of Bill Walsh, Mike Holmgren and Ted Marchibroda all rolled up into one. And even if he were, I cannot see him elevating Edwards to that level.....ever. Just my humble opinion, and yes, Trent was drafted in the 3rd round, not the 1st. I always like to remind everyone that most of the best QB's in history were not first round draft picks. But I see more "Joe Ferguson" type head-down lack of confidence in Edwards then Jim Kelly type leadership. And even worse for Trent, he does not have the rifle arm Fergy had that allowed him to put together 3 or 4 great seasons under Chuck Knox despite his overall lack of leadership skills. So add it all up, and Edwards is not the answer, unless he somehow miraculously finds some confidence and becomes a leader. But even if he does that, he still cannot take a hard hit in the NFL either. I just don't see it happening for Trent Edwards! -
Rebuild or not? Answer this QB question
BillsPhan replied to SawchukBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My vote was to draft a QB's this year. Of course I was in the minority. Joe Montana, argualbly the very best QB in NFL history, was a 3rd round pick. Tom Brady, another in that same argument with Montana, was a 6th round pick. Brett Favre, yet another in that argument, was a 2nd round pick traded away by the team that drafted him. (Nice job Falcons.) Dan Marino, another in the argument, was drafted late in the first round, after other QB's in 1983, including our HOF'er Jimbo, had less impressive careers. In fact, Marino's records are just now being eclipsed by Favre, who needed to play almost 20 years to break them. Of course, we also have our examples of number one draft choices living up to their picks. Elway, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, and others I cannot remember....yes sometimes the experts are really correct. But not most of the time! What's my point? Isn't it obvious? Drafting QB's is and always will be a crap shoot. Sam Bradford may end up duplicating Kerry Collins' career while Tim Tebow may be the one breaking Favre's or Mannings records 15 years down the road. Nobody knows. I present Joe Flacco as more evidence. Who the hell was he to come in as a rookie and do a damn good job for the Ravens starting every game for them the past two years?? From Delaware of all colleges? I'm sure the "experts" projected Flacco to take 3 years or more before he was "ready" to take over. Well, who's to say Tony Pike, who absoultely nobody is giving any love coming up to this draft, can't be this years' Flacco?? So if Buddy drafts Pike in the 2nd round, because he see's what the Ravens saw in Flacco, everyone will roast Nix right? Listen, until you have a quality QB, anything less then the Ravens defense of '2000 will get you nowhere. And the Ravens defense of '2000 has yet to be duplicated other then maybe once, and that was way back in 1985 by the Bears. Two intersting examples of teams that won SB's with much less then quality career QB's was the Redskins of '91 and the Giants of '90 - both of which beat our beloved Bills. However, those teams were great in every other way, and Rypien of the Redskins had ONE HOF season that year in 1991, and nobody can ever predict a QB to do that. Hostetler of the '90 Giants was forced to take over late in the year for injured Simms, and he simply played just good enough against our horribly out-coached Bills to win by one point. Does anyone think that Hostetler could have won the game for the Giants if Levy and Kelly would have simply decided to hand the ball off to Thurman Thomas about 35 or 40 times that ngiht down in Tampa??? But I am obviously rambling and once again for the milliionth time lamenting that first SB loss! I say draft the QB in the first our second round THIS SEASON, and like Chan Gailey says, "coach him up" to become the Bills next franchise QB. Sure it's a crap shoot, but if they don't at least try, they will NEVER contend for a championship. And to wait for next years' class of QB's because the "experts" say they are better then this years', is simply pure folly. -
Wait a minute here. You're from San Diego, or at least have been living there, and after watching up close Nix get credit for being a huge part of the team the Chargers built since the early 2000's, you really think he would draft a WR or CB at #9? Come on now. The true Bill-ievers are depending on Buddy to finally get the draft right, even though he doesn't seem to have much interest in free agency yet. If you get your party together out there, you should be celebrating the talented OL or DL Nix takes with his #9 pick. Or perhaps celebrating the extra 2nd and 4th round picks he adds to the later first round pick he trades down for. No way does he waste the #9 on a WR of CB!! Right???

McNabb to the Bills for Picks?
BillsPhan replied to CountDorkula's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So you wouldn't trade your 2nd and 3rd round picks for Donavan McNabb, huh? I'd do it in a heart beat. I would make the trade, then trade Trent Edwards for whatever draft pick I could get back. That would give me an extra 4th or 5th round pick to make up for losing my 3rd rounder. In the draft, I trade my #9 pick down for a late first rounder to gain my 2nd round pick back, since there are a lot of talented linemen in this year's draft anyway. If I'm as good a talent evaluator as Buddy Nix is said to be, I should still be able to build some talent around McNabb in this years' draft picking later in the first round, later in the 2nd round, and losing my 3rd rounder for a second 4th or 5th rounder in my Edwards trade. -
UPDATED: Tim Tebow, QB, Denver Broncos
BillsPhan replied to Kingfish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, I'm sure you'd be ticked off right up until either one made their first Pro Bowl, right around the end of their second or third season, after they have established themselves as the best QB to be drafted by Buffalo since Kelly, right? Boy, that would tick me right off too. -
UPDATED: Tim Tebow, QB, Denver Broncos
BillsPhan replied to Kingfish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're an idiot. Tim Tebow will be a star in the NFL, and if he also has a strong faith, that will also make him a star and a quality human being, which is very rare to find in any sport today. Not to mention the fact that the ignoramous who told Tebow to shut the f up, most likely has not already been paid from $150.00 to $300.00 per autograph as Tebow already has been paid in one recent appearence. The kids' already making huge bank, and he hasn't even been drafted yet. hahahahahaha, I wonder what Tebows' bank account looks like. -
Greatest Games in Bills History
BillsPhan replied to BillsfaninSixburgh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No way. First of all, what about the AFL Championship game in San Diego the very next season? Didn't the Bills shut out the vaunted Chargers offense to win their second consecutive AFL Championship that year? You call that game chopped liver? And onto the modern era. Bills 51, Raiders 3, for their first AFC Championship in the SB era. For me, THAT is the greatest game in Buffalo Bills history. For one thing, it vaulted the Bills into their first SB. Secondly, it meant the exact same thing as that 1964 AFL Championship meant: that the Buffalo Bills were the best team in the AFC (modern version of the AFL) for the 1990 season. Then, in 1991, they matched the 1965 AFL Championship with a second consecutive AFC Championship. Then 1n 1992 and again in 1993, they surpassed their 1960's accomplishments by winning two more consecutive AFC Championships. You see, the AFL never got to play the NFL in 1964 and 1965. But the NFL of course did exist. So I will never understand why many old timers (or even younger fans) think that the Bills winning those two AFL Championships should mean so much more then the 4 straight AFC Championships. In reality, they all meant the exact same thing. -
First of all, I agree 110% with your Jim Kelly quote - and in addition to that, he is turning out to be the best retired Buffalo Bill ever, with the work he is doing for Hunters Hope and trying to convince every state in the country to add more disease testing on unborn babies. That said, I totaly disagree with your opinions about solid FA's not being available this year. Remember Ben Watson's catch to beat the Bills on Sunday Night Football last season? Well, there he was, available to be signed as an UFA by Buddy. You think Ben would not have immediately improved our sorry state at tight end?? How about Thomas Jones after the Jets cut him? You don't think he would have been able to replace Lynch well enough for Buddy to trade the immature kid for draft value? The list goes on and on. It's not like the free agents out there need to be super starts to improve the Bills pathetic 6-10-0 roster. At least he signed an experienced OT out of Oakland. That's a start. But it's not nearly as much as he could have done with free agency so far this year.
-
That's right, the best teams never use free agency other then adding "a player here and a player there", right? It's all done through the good old draft. Like this year's SB winner, the Saints. They drafted MVP of the game Drew Brees back in 2002.....oh wait a minute, no they traded for him, right? Or they signed him after the Chargers cut him, either way, here we have a SB MVP QB playing on a team that didn't draft him. Gee, I guess you can say the same thing about the Cardinals rise from the ashes, after they brought in Kurt Warner as their QB, no drafting him either. And oh, would you not want Tony Romo as your Bills QB? Free agent rookie signing right there - once again, the most important position on an NFL team NOT DRAFTED. The Chiefs suck, and they are rebuilding, but they don't seem to subscribe to your theory as they continue to bring in free agents - Scott Pioli seemed to find some "success" building the Pats, don't you think he "knows what he's doing??" As Pioli continues to fill gaps with more free agents then your "one here and one there", do you think he's jealous of the smarter Buddy Nix NOT brining anyone in?? You think the Chiefs fans are pissed off that Pioli continues to try to improve his team by the use of free agency?? I'm not a Nix hater. But the man has done just barely over NOTHING so far. He's arrogantly ignored the talent that other teams have signed in free agency. Other NFL teams that are also facing the BIG LOCKOUT IN 2011. So now, we all have to wait for him to have the best draft in Buffalo Bills history, right? Well I'll wait and see what kind of team takes the field in September. If you are one of the idiots out here that think a 2-14 season is a "step forward" when you have free agency to avoid 2-14 seasons, then there is really no hope for you. You will never demand this team to make the playoffs. Ask the Dolphins fans, the Falcons fans, the Ravens fans, the Cardinals fans, the Saints fans. Ask them if making the playoffs and then regressing a little the season after isn't BETTER then not making the playoffs at all!!

Nix is passing on quality free agents
BillsPhan replied to BillsPhan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're following Buddy? That has to be the easiest "job" in the world right now. Buddy is getting all of these compliments for doing.....nothing? Somebody should have told Donahoe and Levy that all they had to do was cut a couple of good special teams players and a few aging vets, and then ignore free agency till the draft every year. That seems to be the Buddy Nix "process" so far. Hey, wasn't it Ben Watson who scored the TD right down the middle of the field to beat the Bills in NE just last year on Sunday Night Football? Why yes it was the same free agent tight end who Nix felt would be no use for his team. -
Buddy Nix's formula to build his Buffalo Bills appears to be 98% draft, and only use Free Agency to "fill in gaps." But wait a minute here. The Bills have huge gaps right now at tight end and wide receiver. They have plenty of money under the cap, right now. Yet Antonio Bryant and Ben Watson have just signed very reasonable contracts with other NFL teams, while Nix didn't even invite either one in for a visit. And please, don't reply to this post by telling me Antonio Bryant would not have been an improvement over Stevie Johnson or James Hardy. Or try to convince me that Shawn Nelson will become a better tight end this season then Ben Watson will be. Those arguments are laughable. Now I'm thinking that Buddy Nix is more then just an old fashioned draft - first football guy. Now I'm thinking that Buddy Nix has a level of arrogance hiding beneath that "good ol" boy" exterior. Just becuase Watson and Bryant have had excellent seasons in the past, and they are well known (but certainly not "super stars") - he won't bring them in? He seems to be selecting more "unknown - under the radar" free agents to talk to and possibly sign, like Green and now this visit by Jimmy Kennedy. Is he taking his "personnel expertise" a bit too seriously? Who knows? The one thing I do know is that if Nix would have signed both Bryant and Watson, every Bills fan would feel better about our 2010 team, and not one single Bills fan would be accusing him of "breaking the salary cap bank stupidly".
-
Let's start building this team correctly
BillsPhan replied to gjv001's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well it seems your dreams are coming true right before your eyes. For all we know, Buddy and Chan have been down in the Florida keys trolling along in their fishing boat spitting chaw into the water, with the lack of "splashy free agents" brought into Buffalo to try and sign since March 1st. -
Jones is already signed up in KC. Westbrook would be great, if he did not have those concussion problems. I threw LT out becuase he would immediately bring in some "media interest" about our boring Bills right about now. No way could he possibly give the Bills less then what head-case Lynch gave them last year backing up Jackson. Plus, every playoff team brings in a couple of almost over the hill veterans who still have something left to offer on the field, and can offer even more experience and professionalism off the field and in the locker room. I don't know what Nix and Gailey plan on doing with Marshawn. He is still very young, and has his best years ahead of him, so they might be smart to see how he does this season and not trade him at all.
