  1. I agree. This kind of opportunity makes the trade down more and more an opportunity.
  2. Boy there are really some good players that can help us between about 5 and 50 so a good trade down option may be the way to go. Peterson and AJ Green must have some teams chomping at the bit to trade up...but we'll just have to see what is being offered. If not, we should get the best DE, DT, OLB or OT available. Its not that we are short on needs and only two players are going ahead of us.
  3. From the senior bowl.com website: "One of the several standouts on the South squad has been Tennessee tight end Luke Stocker. Stocker seems to be catching the eye of pro scouts this week and each day continues to get better." I'm still pushing for this guy. From espn.go.com... "Muench’s top performer for the South was Tennessee tight end Luke Stocker, who showed good toughness and was able to wall off blockers. But Muench said catching the ball over the middle was where Stocker made his mark. He made a one-handed catch behind the linebackers and in front of the safeties. He took a big hit, but still held on. Muench likes how physical the 6-foot-5 Stocker is, the way he makes plays in traffic and uses his frame to shield linebackers and generally the way he works over the middle. Muench said Stocker caught everything Tuesday."
  4. The minute he was picked we should have known he wouldn't help all that much since we had two pretty good running backs. Gailey had referred to him as a "waterbug" which should have told you he wasn't going to be much help as a pass blocker, and would need help from a very weak offensive line opening holes so that he could do his thing. A C+ is kind of generous in my opinion. yeah Spiller has a ton of talent. He just decided not to show it to us this season.
  5. Seems he is making quite a splash at the Senior Bowl. Let's see what he does this weekend. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/01/26/texas-ams-von-miller-creates-senior-bowl-stir/
  6. We need both tackles to be reasonably competitive next year. I'm not all that sure that we at the level we need to be in the other positions, but two tackles and great run blocking tight end are a sine qua non.
  7. I think its safe in saying he played a greater role in the Green Bay offense than CJ Spiller played in our offense...and with a much better result when all was said and done.
  8. If he was the guy who caught most of the passes, he was the number one receiver that season. I go far enough back to remember when Elbert Dubenion and Glenn Bass were hurt and tight end Ernie Warlick was the number one receiver. The number one receiver is the go to guy...SJ was the go to guy for most of the season. Maybe LE will earn the number one designation back, but to do that he has to make a bunch of catches.
  9. He had three coaches and some injuries. That's why he'll probably last until the third round. Let's watch him in the Bowl and the combine.
  10. The number one receiver is the one who catches the most passes in a given season...Steve Johnson The number two is Lee Evans who has a pretty good standing as a number two receiver. We have a number of pretty good receivers on the bench. Our offensive line is not good...our defensive line is not good....our linebacking is not good. Forget the idea of making our receiving corps weaker...wise drafting and signing solid free agents will improve our weak areas. Hey Chan...Buddy...here's a novel idea ...Look at where we aren't very good and then use our resources to make those areas better. Chicago, for instance, got Peppers and Cutler. Green Bay got Bulaga The Jets got Braylin Edwards and LT. It isn't all that difficult.
  11. And...if Evans was being outplayed by other Buffalo Bills, he would have been sitting on the bench. Ergo...he's the number two guy until someone better knocks him out of that position. The guys stats weren't all that bad, and I don't see anyone better on the horizon.
  12. Well..in case you hadn't noticed, they drafted Brian Bulaga instead of CJ Spiller. Resulted in a better offensive line...better passing game....better running game....trip to the superbowl.
  13. We have suffered the curse of doug flutie ever since. We have to figure out a way to lift the curse before we can ever get to the playoffs. Some suggestions: 1. Put Flutie on the Wall of Fame 2. Serve Flutie flakes at pre-season camps untile we win a superbowl. 3. Rename the stadium...Dougie's Dugout 4. Draft someone from Boston College every year until we win a superbowl
  14. ok..which of 1 to 70 are you going to replace him with? Going to find a top flight receiver in the fifth round of the draft? If we felt so little confidence in him why did we let TO walk (number 18)? This is silly. We have about seven position with less than adequate people starting and we're poking around at the one area where we actually have a capable starter. No wonder we are at the bottom of the division.
  15. I think Stocker at third round would be a great pick. I think this guy is a real find. Last UT guy I said that about was Jason Whitten, and he turned out pretty good.
  16. uhhhhh...yeah....and we are so happy that Chan didn't throw his headset when we were in the AFC championship game...oh..wait a minute...we weren't? Oh....
  17. just checked and Evans ranked 71st ahead of a lot of pretty darn good receivers... http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?season=2010&seasonType=REG&d-447263-o=2&conference=null&tabSeq=0&statisticCategory=RECEIVING&d-447263-p=2&d-447263-s=RECEIVING_YARDS&d-447263-n=1 The other guy we didn't try to sign or keep (TO) finished 18th.
  18. Why on earth deal Evans for a low round pick? He is AT LEAST the second best receiver we have. He isn't all that expensive. We have a TON of needs for the draft and free agency and getting a replacement would be yet another drain on limited resources. At least in trading Marshawn we had Jackson and Spiller, although neither of them we "beast mode" backs. This would be just another in a long line of stupid personnel decisions keeping us fron improving.
  19. The point was to go into the season with a credible offensive line. There was an obvious weakness at the tackle position which was not met with draftees, with existing staff or with the bizarre signing of Cornell Green and there were a number of options available to address the need. To build a playoff team you need to 1. keep your quality players...we generally have not done that...Incognito and Jabari Greer and Marshawn Lynch are recent examples. 2> Bring in quality veterans by free agency or trade...see braylin edwards, flozell adams etc... 3. Be effective in the draft. 4. Act like winning is important.
  20. generally no...but there are some safeties out there who are franchise players...Polamalu and Ed Reed and Bob Sanders come to mind. Eric Berry (ok ok ok...he's from Tennessee...) may turn out to be a franchise player. If the question is whether we should go with Peterson as a first pick the answer is HELL NO. Peterson may be the best DB in the draft but we don't need the best DB in the draft. We need the best DE, the best DT, the best OLB or even the best qb
  21. there were really obvious picks that should have been made at the time. The number one pick for Mike Williams was weird in that the consensus was that the best Offensive Tackle was Bryant McKinney, who has had a very good career. Erik Flowers and Aaron Maybin were headscratchers from day one. Others were gambles, but you had to give the benefit of the doubt to, Losman, McGahee with his injury, Whitner, Spiller. Others were pretty ok picks, Clements, Lynch,Evans and possibly McKelvin. We have not been very good at drafting in the first round or two and that goes a long way toward where we are today. We have not been aggressive or smart in free agency either in keeping good players or getting quality players. We have not been very good at trading.
  22. We aren't ever going to get even to 7-9 again if we don't stop bleeding away the talent we have. We have to keep Whitner, Poz and Florence. Look at who we let go from Takeo Spikes, London Fletcher, Winfield, Clements, Leonard, jabari Greer....you don't dump such talent and then hope you find replacements in the later rounds of a draft. We should also take a page from Chicago's book and get agressive in free agency.
  23. ok ok..the world ends at the tail end of the regular season..We should beat the Pats at least once before THAT!!!
  24. I'm buying it, except I'm pretty comfortable with Fitz and would reverse the TE and QB priorities. I'm not sure about Left Tackle either, and would probably put that on as my number 6 or 7. I see us getting a qb in the third round, but could live with a decision to get one in round 2. I'm certain that your priorities could be addressed in both the draft AND free agency.
