  1. well...let's hold the vote until about 5 pm today. I think Gailey is going in with a "weaker" team overall, but there are a lot of intagibles here. The "weaker" team does have a very new set of personnel and combinations on defense, and at least an offense with no qb controversy and good solid preseason under their belt. If we stop the run, and I KNOW we are in a better position to do that than we were last year, and the young wide receivers step up, and Jackson has his usual very productive game we'll do okay. Gailey's game day coaching will be the big thing here, versus Haley's game day coaching. I think I'll go with Chan, but we shall see at the end of the day.
  2. Well...one way or another we'll sure be talking about him on Monday, win or lose. I'm hoping its talkng about how our LB and defensive front seve beat up on Cassell and held Charles to modest yardage in a Bills victory.
  3. You know its not only that we have made a major improvement in the defensive run stopping game...its also that NO ONE seems to acknowledge it, hopefully including KC. This may give us a leg up in the first few games. Once we show that we have strenght against the run this yar that might change. It is still, no surprise, the offensive line that scares me. Come on guys..prove me wrong!
  4. Why would I who has bemoaned the loss of Evans and the weakness of the O-line predict a win over KC? Well, I can't help but look at every evaluation predicting and noting that we have NO absolutely NO run defense not getting into KC's game planning. There is an area of great improvement and we have seen that in the draft (Dareus) and in preseason and that will be the run game. I'm not just talking about starters either. I think KC has to look at their tremendous running success against the bills and assume another day at the races. I think that will be a big surprise. I an assuming Cassell will play, but I expect with Merriman and all we will be an effective pass rushing team as well. Offensively this is Fitz's first time taking the team from the preseason and into the regular season as a starter and he has improved game after game. The KC team plays a horizontal based defense, and I see Johnson and Parrish getting open and am hoping that the trade of Evans wasn't a mistake and Jones and Easley are really that good. I worry about special teams, but then we'll just hve to see what we have. Prediction- Bills 24 Chiefs 13.
  5. mybills....good or bad, win or lose, whether I'm braggin about em or whinin about em...they're still my bills. Beat KC and we'll figure out the rest of the season after that.
  6. Kelly, Kemp, Fergy...they are my nominees for our three best qb's. I agree that we would have gone pretty far into the playoffs if Fergy hadn't suffered that sprain. He was gutsy to play the way he did. He is the kind of guy makes you proud to be a Bills fan.
  7. yeah...the offer was for a FOURTH round draft choice? For a starting receiver. read a few ravens blogs as to what they think of this FOURTH round draft choice.
  8. The guy sounds like one who was born to play tackle, excelled in high school at tackle and has not adapted to the pro game at the position he has been playing for eight or nine years at lears. Still I would say he is as good as any of the (second rate) backups we have now. I'm not impressed as I was with the fella from the Patriots, but hey let's wait and see.
  9. I for one am glad to hear it. "A man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for?" Browning. If you haven't got a stretch goal you certainly aren't going to achieve much. Chan, I'd be happy with nine wins, but you get more than that and get into the playoffs, I'll pull your freakin bandwagon for you. And you can start by whupping up on Kansas City. That's also the team that kept us out of the first superbowl.
  10. It doesn't matter whether Cassell is Brady or Rogers...its who is his backup. You have to judge the situation by who actually is on the field (Cassell's backup) versus who is not on the field (Cassell). There is a HUGE dropoff in talent if he can't play.
  11. They are enamored by teams like Green Bay, Pittsburgh, New England and the Saints and such that are perennially in the playoffs. We should be fifth or sixth.... Seriously...we were 29th last year and haven't done anything to improve other than a very significant draft choice on the defensive line. We have lost our first or second best receiver (who is starting for the team that got him for a FOURTH round draft choice) Our offensive line is a mess. We are not getting into the twenties until we win some games.. Nine wins buddy and chan...nine wins.
  12. Give that man a cigar! Actually the only thing that will fix our offensive line is.... GET SOME FRICKING OFFENSIVE LINEMEN!!!!
  13. That fits our offensive line strategy. We are not looking for athletic types...just heavy soft guys.
  14. If Cassell is hurt this would be a VERY winnable game. First game of the season its really anyone's guess. I have a feeling we can win it by establishing the run game first and foremost. I have a lot of good feeling about our defense.
  15. Well...I suppose it will be more interesting than watching our offensive tackles...
  16. I don't know. I can see him on the practice squad, but I'm not all that happy with any of our offensive tackles, starters or backups. We have to play with what we have I guess. Too bad, as it will really hamper our possible offensive strategy. On the good side Gailey is probably the best in the business at making game adjustments to compensate for weaknesses. I would think our strategy might have been better to strengthen that particular area of weakness.
  17. he might be very good, but he needs a lot of work to jump fromBethel to NFL play.
  18. I remember him...very good lineman..of course Billy Shaw was the other gaurd and one of the only (or only) player in the hall of fame never to play in the National Football League. I think that's right but KRC will correct me if I'm wrong....
  19. I guess the question is how much depth at tackle do we have? The fellow seems to have been making major progress. Well...we'll just have to wait and see, but I was impressed with the guy... http://www.metrowestdailynews.com/sports/pros_and_colleges/x919544461/Offensive-tackle-Maneri-hoping-to-survive-numbers-game-with-Patriots Maybe not the great prospect that michael Jasper might be, but he has played the position, and at 300 lbs would not be too far off from Bell or Levitre weight wise. I suspect that if we had to yank an offensive lineman off the practice squad a lot of us would like to have a guy who played offensive gaurd at Bethel over a guy who has significant NFL experience.... As to being athletic...I kind of think some athleticism might be good in a lineman. We have done pretty good converting tight ends such as Peters and Tom Sestak to linemen. Proof is in the pudding. I'll watch this guy and I'll watch our corp of offensive tackles over the year.
  20. http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/sports/rap_sheet/index.php/2011/09/05/former-patriots-ol-steve-maneri-gets-claimed-by-the-chiefs/ Well...given our lack of depth (and quality) at the o-line one would think we'd have jumped on this.
  21. I gotta go with the Great Comeback, the first Superbowl, and probably the AFL championship game against San Diego. There were some great regular season games, but its kind of hard to pick one. I liked the game against the raiders, but we whooped them so bad that its hard to call it great. I figure a great game is when you are playing against someone very very good with a lot at stake. That would be very few regular season games.
  22. I always thought he might be a better O lineman than a D lineman...but remember he played O-Line at Bethel.....not exactly Alabama. Still he is a remarkably athletic big guy who just might make it as an O'lineman at gaurd or even tackle. His best shot at getting any playing time this year would be as an O-lineman, IMHO
  23. too many new faces and too many old faces gone to make a good assessment before they have played a few games, but my overall impression... qb. Fitz is the starter and has had the team from the outset. I think that alone is an upgrade. We haven't had a quality backup in years, so I guess the backup jury is out, although I would think Smith would be a slight improvement over last year. Offensive line as bad as ever, and there isn't a worse won in football. This is the area where we will be dragged down more than any other. Gailey can work around weaknesses, but we will have a very restricted offense given the lack of talent here. WRs. Got Johnson, Parrish and one of the youngsters should step up. Nevertheless Evans was a presence to be feared and no one is going to be intimidated by the new receivers early in the season. Downgrade. Tight End. No real change from a bad situation to a more bad situation. No improvement which is surprising given the number of good proven tight ends available in free agency. Ironically I think our offense will be better because of the stability and experience at qb and Fred Jackson's consistent running ability. Better than the third worst team in football, though, isn't all that exciting. The defense on the other hand should be quite good. Great front three, and an aggressive linebacker corps should stop the run, which was what killed us last year. We should have a good pass rush, and I like our db's....I a new co-ordinator and we should be a good solid defense. I'm hoping nine wins, but really expect about 7.
