  1. I suspect you are in bigger trouble if your safeties AREN'T making tackles, but that's just me.
  2. In the final analysis, its "just win baby" The power rankings won't even get you a cup of senior citizens coffee at Mickey D's. The proof so far is we are the division leaders with a 4-1 record and having beaten our major division competition once. I had set nine wins as my basis for a successful season, and I'm not thinking winning hte division with ten or even eleven wins is out of the question. The real power ranking is who gets to the playoffs and then who gets to the superbowl, and then who wins the superbowl.
  3. What he said. I suspect we'll be fine when McGee and Williams get back. We have faced some very tough receivers and qbs in the last few games with some significant injuries in the defensive backfield. We have won and have gotten a remarkable number of turnovers with what we have been able to put on the field. After the bye week we will be fine. The interesting thing will be how the Giants will approach us and how we react.
  4. poierre, pouncey, matthews, davis or Graham would have been better choices given our needs at the time. That is water under the dam. Spiller is what we have and hopefully he will be used to best optimize his talents.
  5. yup..i suspect they will put him at OT, but no playing time until next year. I'd love for him to be successful.
  6. I complained about letting Evans go when he was traded, for a fourth round draft choice. The receivers whe had at the beginning of the season really made me see that the trade made sense as there were deep threats in the youthful corps left. Injuries happen and we have enough receivers to win, although we don't have the legitimate blow your socks off deep threat. I doubt we are going to find one, unless TO is healthy and ready to play (sounds doubtful given the 911 call) I suspect our offense will just work around this problem. Teams do this all the time at some point in any given season. Sometimes its running backs, sometimes its qb's, sometimes its linebackers, but you can sure you're going to have some problem some time in the season.
  7. I am a firm believer that a good assessment of the defense is to look at two things...whether the points allowed are less than the points scored (that's a good thing) and the win-loss record is improving on the win side. 4-1 is a good thing. As long as we keep doing those two things (they are obviously interrelated) we will be fine.
  8. I am not a huge fan of TO, but it seemed he played well here, and was a good camper in Cinci. The big question is what is his physical condition and is he recovered? I'm not sure how he fits in with Chan and Buddy, but he is worthy of consideration. I remember during free agency commenting that we could use more depth in the receiving corps.
  9. U think Linebacker will be our top priority next yearwith a need for some more depth on the O-line.
  10. The defense is a little scary in that we don't have a killer pass rush which would allow those defensive backs to be safer in their aggressive playing of receivers and going for the interception and I don't see the pass rush part of the defense getting much better. On the other hand Brady, Vick and, for that matter Dalton are quality passers who will get big yardage no matter what you do. Wait and see...I suspect the defense will be fine.
  11. I just don't see any issue with Hank or Juan. Employment used to be like a marriage contract, then it became like an engagement...now its "here's a few bucks while I screw you over and be gone when I get out of the shower." Juan and Hank were just a little slow in figuring that out.
  12. Trent Edwards starting for the dolphins...can it get better than that? Well...maybe JP Losman or RJ.
  13. I'm pulling for him to have a great game. He seems to be working hard as hell and playing well, but them sacks don't seem to come easy.
  14. I don't think they are any more one dimensional than the Jim Kelly/Thurman Thomas/Andre Reed teams were one-dimensional. We have a good running game (Jackson) and a good passing game. Whether we pass or run seems to be based on the teams we are playing and the game situation.
  15. hey, the first amendment doesn't apply to private employers, and it is pretty severely restricted when it comes to public employers as well. The lesson...don't say anything to peeoff your employer. Its that kind of world these days in an employment at will world. Hank Williams, Juan Williams, Kyle Williams, Ted Williams or Wendy Williams...you just don't have many rights in the workplace.
  16. The Edison or Einstein of his generation.
  17. Interesting possible lineup. I suspect Smith will get the call quite a bit in different sets. The Bills should be hard to defense now that we have tight ends who are receiving threats and a solid running back in Jackson and two very different running/receiving threats in Smith and Spiller (okay..Spiller has a lot to prove..but he is a unique talent) The trick is to get the offense onto the field as much as possible. A weird possibility? How about an on-sides kick to open the game or at half time? The eagles have not shown much offensive prowess in the red zone, their special teams are nothing special, and if successful gives us a good solid start and one more possession. The Saints did it successfully in the superbowl.
  18. Love Kelly, great hall of fame qb. I suspect he'd be a disruptive part of the ownership picture as a minor minor partner expecting great visibility. He doesn't have the personality to be head of operations or gm. I'd love to see him as a coach (not here, I'm getting more and more impressed with the present regime). I suspect he is going to be part of the regime after Wilson, but I'm wondering who the "powers that be" are actually going to be.
  19. I like to look at what's on the scoreboard at the end of the game. Take the number under the Buffalo bills sign and subtract the number under the other teams sign...If there is a remainder that is a positive number...that's good.
  20. wow...out of work qb's declining a tryout? Miami must be in trouble. I would say we SHOULD pick up two games in the division when we play them. That being said, there are many a slip tween the cup and the lip.
  21. Edwards? My goodness Miami actually has tanked. They must be actively seeking to get Luck.
  22. congrats Fitz. Now repeat for the next five months and we'll put up a statue of you in front of City Hall!
  23. I don't know about buying and selling, but I see us as more of a buy than the Redskins (How can Grossman not collapse?) and the 49ers (Alex Smith?). Our receivers and runners look better than theirs, and going by statistics we have far more offensive firepower. The Titans? my second favorite team, and they are playing well, but I'd put Buffalo ahead of them as well. I'd say Buffalo is a buy.
