  1. never did them both in one day. I think the ski resorts are in some trouble. I do go to Asheville quite a bit, and like Boone and Blowing Rock. I'm pretty happy with East Tennessee and probably will continue to live here even after I retire.
  2. if he's going to get there he should get it soon. He'll be an afterthought in a few years. I'm not sure he is HOF material, but lots of folks think he is.
  3. hate brady, hate brady's dad and mom for having him..hate G for marrying him, hate the patriots for drafting him, hate all of the patriots. However...he has a point.
  4. I'll vote for East Tennessee. No income tax, great medical facilities, four seasons, and you can golf here in Johnson City and Drive to Boone NC and ski on the same day. salaries are good, employment is better than average, good schools, great outdoors town with Blue Ridge and Smokey Mountains. Not far from UT and Virginia Tech football, Asheville NC about an hour away and Knoxville an hour and a half. I moved away for the job and have never regretted it.
  5. none of them (Kelly included) won the first one that the AFL ever won. That was the greatest achievement in the history of the merger (at least from the AFL side). No one is ever going to have an achievement like that again. He was great. Kelly had a more productive statistical career? Heck yes. But you need to be great when greatness is needed.
  6. Au contraire, mon frere.....Joe Namath actually won a superbowl...the first one that the AFL won. Jim Kelly struck out four times....game, set and match.
  7. Defense might win championships. Our defense doesn't even give us a winning season.
  8. I think more and more he is becoming the consensus first round pick. I think it will be him or Reif, depending on who is available.
  9. i can't see why we wouldn't get national exposure. We EMBARASSED ourselves tremendously in the second half of the season. 49 unanswered points agains the Patriots? I'm just happy they are televising us at all given the depths to which we have sunk.
  10. I think its OT/DE/OLB. OT (Left) is what is crippling our offense. We need to put on a heavy pass rush and a DE and OLB are critical pieces to that puzzle.
  11. So far I'm still Rief or Upshaw. I'm comfortable with either as each fills a gaping and critical hole. We might fill one hole and address the other in free agency or with a very good choice in round 2, but we go nowhere until we address them.
  12. I think Evans was a promising addition to the Ravens before being injured. His catch last week was stellar, but he only played for eight snaps. The Ravens have really moved on and probably won't be paying him to sit so he will most likely be cut and catch on somewhere else. I think he still has the capacity to start in many places and would have probably started here midway into the season when the injuries started to pile up, if not before. As to whether he has a future...we'll just have to wait and see.
  13. Williams was not even the best OT in that draft. The consensus was, and time has proven, that Bryant McKinney was the more talented with more upside than the two. Williams won out on charm, character and personality. Linemen, especially offensive linemen should be big and mean. Mckinney was mean and Williams wasn't. Take note Chan and Buddy.
  14. Actually I figure that those who don't perform or leave football are examples of good management in getting rid of those who aren't going to help. Most recently, at least under Gailey and his predecessor, I am more inclined to watch those we let slip away perform for the teams which got them. These include Peters, Jabari Greer, Jason Peters, Takeo Spikes, London Fletcher, Incognito, Fewell and others. I kind of lost track of the very good dismissals such as Edwards and Maybin. There are others who seem to be contributiing but the jury is out, such as Whitner and Poz. Evans is a funny bird in that he was hurt and doesn't seem to have a role in the Ravens plans but has played well when he was played. I suspect he will be let go by the Ravens.
  15. I'm kind of a johnny one note on this but if we draft Upshaw number one we should be looking for an OT or possibly DE in round 2. If we draft Rief we should be looking at an OLB in round 2. Gotta set priorities.
  16. Reif and Upshaw would each be a magnificent pick at 10. I get a kick how all of a sudden Bulaga is a "great" pick when I pushed for him to be picked in the draft. I pushed for Oher as well. We have a glaring weakness that has not been addressed in all the time we have been a bad football team and that is offensive tackle. We now have yet another glaring weakness (where are the coach and general manager in addressing this?) in OLB and Upshaw would solve the problem. The choice is one or the other. On a note of interest, Kalil's dad was once drafter by the Buffalo bills.
  17. I remember that before we felt that way about Miami (in fact before there was a MIAMI) we felt that way about the BOSTON Patriots, with Gino Cappelletti, Babe Parilli et al.
  18. you've convninced me. If Rief and Upshaw are both available, it would seem that Upshaw is the strongest candidate for the number 10 pick. Of course there is the senior bowl, the camp and all the mock drafts that will be going on, but as of now I agree that Upshaw looks to be the best choice of available candidates. That's assuming Luck, Griffin, Blackmon, Kahlil go, as they should, in the first five picks.
  19. It is a toss up of two positions of absolutely critical need, OT and a pass rushing defensive front seven player. I think Rief will be an outstanding catch at 10, but there may be a better defensive lineman and I could live with such a pick. OT is the smart pick and has been for a number of years.
  20. We have serious needs on offense, at OT and WR. We have serious needs on defense, OLB, DE, and possibly CB. I can't see saying one area is in more need than the other. In any event it calls for a very wise draft and aggressive moves in free agency.
  21. some pretty darn good linebackers are going to be available, and we need some. I'd love to see us get the OT Rief, but if he isn't available an OLB would not be a bad move.
  22. Winning is about as good an evaluative tool as any. I didn't say I wanted Williams back. Hell...I'm not even saying I want Gailey back!
  23. Well...let's see...he was 17/31 and Gailey was 10/22. Sounds like there isn't much difference.
  24. I was pushing for us to sign him when he came out. Love to see him as a Bill.
