Wasn't in the Navy..but I suspect even sailors could turn a battleship in less than five years. Hell.. it didn't take us five years to win world war II. Oh...that was a democratic administration. -

Even assuming your argument to be true for the purposes of this thread...my point is that after 9/11 it was even more tragically apparent that the intelligence gathering function was flawed and should be fixed. Its 2005 and if anything the situation is worse. The "thinkers" (god I love that phrase.) have the house, senate and the oval office. They bear full responsibility for the present mess. -
I think MM should be retained.
tennesseeboy replied to nick in* england's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think we move forward at all with MM as head coach. He has really lost credibility and respect from many of the senior players on the team, his inability to react to whatever any team throws at him is obvious in pretty much every game he coaches, and I don't see him being able to reform the team. You have a point in that this is not the most attractive head coach job. I think we are best off looking for someone new who, with a new GM will rebuild with a core team whose quality players are on their last legs and many other players who are unproven. -

Yup..and Bush was president all of those years. To push the parallel the Commander of Chief of the Bills during most of the years before Bush was...let me check...Marv Levy... -

Nope...based on the calendar. I think that's what I said. Let me check.....yup that is what i was saying. Now as to your wrong-headed assumption about the planning for 9/11. That wasn't a consideration (although I might mention that it was the intelligence community in place that sent Bush the briefing that contained a HEADLINED warning about the attack -but the made the mistake of not including pictures of a plane crashing into the WTC and a crayon warning "George for God's sake read this.") What I was referring to is that after 9/11 it was readily apparent that there was a need for overhaul and reform of the intelligence community. That hasn't happened. NSA, CIA, FBI are not better and there are whole new unnecessary layers of bureaucracy to chew up and misinterpret the little bits of valid information we get. Not to mention someone in the white house who manipulates and pulls the chain of the intelligence agencies to manufacture intelligence to fit his own desires. -
His conclusion about Donahoe is correct, but just because Donahoe was bad doesn't mean Mularkey or Williams were good. We all spent years watching Williams and Mularkey, and I don't think many of us would actually say they were good head coaches. I thought Wade Phillips was a good (not great) head coach, which I hope would indicate that I am somewhat generous, and even I don't think for one minute that either Mularkey or Williams were good head coaches. Williams seemed to be trying on different coaching styles and theories all the time he was here, hired badly, and tried to make a pretty good team at one thing do things that it was never designed to do. Mularkey seems in a fog on game day, and never seems to react to whatever the other team shows him. Now..that being said, I think that Williams and Mularkey may eventually become good head coaches, assuming they work on the mistakes they made here in Buffalo, and get another chance. I'm kind of pulling for Wade Phillips to get the job and succeed in Houston.

With all due respect you "thinkers" remind me of some on the Stadium Wall trying desperately to find a team worse than the team that's presently playing. Repubs have the house and Senate and the clown in the White House belongs to them...and Intelligence,,at least until the next election...is theirs. Instead of "we f-c up"...which is the intelligence community the last five years...its "we f-d" up because ten years ago they f-d up." Rather than look at how bad it is at present and trying to fix it they STILL try to blame their incompetency on a previous administration. They kill me. Wait a minute...giving the way they are handling foreign affairs...they might just kill us all!! -

Ah AD...again the non-responsive but sarcastic reply about ancient history. Perhaps you should check out the fact that President Clinton left office far enough in advance of 9/11 before that wake up call shook your nose-picking, flightsuit wearing, mission accomplishing president away from vacation, and it has been nearly five years since 9/11 and your boy took responsibility for the affairs of state in a crisis and if anything intelligence has gone backward. I'll let the statement about man-boy love and your "suck" language be. You and CMT must have spend a lot of time watching that Brokeback Mountain thing~ -
not as impressive as GWB but a nice effort. Golly if our leaders and the British leaders would put as much effort into Osama Bin Laden, we'd all be sitting in high cotton!

I worked with a Navy commander recently and was discussing how the Marines were part of the Navy. I asked him why they had Marines on ships...and he said: "Well..we wanted to have sheep, but that would have been too obvious."

The kid has to keep his head up and get all the reps he can, and ignore the criticism. He'll be good next year or he'll take his money and get on with his life. I'm hoping for him to be good next year. -
Oh that hurts...not so much because its so funny as much as because it is so correct.

I agree with you one hundred percent. HUMINT has been a sorely underutilized part of our intelligence operation (Even your "thinking" president GWB apparently acknowledged that the other day.) I think it could be part of the solution, but we are years behind. I would not rely on American Arabs but also on Arab Arabs, who might or might not hate the regime, but turn (money, power, and other factors may influence the decisions). You "thinkers" might want to read Sun Tzu on the five types of spies that should be used. I'm not against killing the bad guys. The thing is your "thinking" administration is killing far more good than bad guys and unacceptable number of the good guys and girls getting killed for no good reason are Americans. -
interesting coach prospects

Wasn't aware of the Hull statement. F-him. -
Great draft. I agree with most of your assumptions but I'm hoping there will be a combination of Ferguson slipping down and us "slipping up" in the next two games. I think there are two Tennessee players who may slip down to early third round. ONe is Jason Allen a top pick who was injured and didn't play this year. A cornerback, but worth a third pick and, probably a better fit, DT Jesse Maholona.

You know the way you two answer each other's posts for each other is really touching. You guys see Brokeback Mountain yet?

I wouldn't mind having Donovan McNabb quarterbacking the Bills.

Not surprised at your response. I'd try to kill all of the m-fer's I could. But then...I'm not a "thinker!" -

my oh my joe...a little prickly this morning, aren't you? Seriously..where do think we are going to get this magical "mossad style" operation? -
Watched a sports show last night for just a minute and they were talking about firing Dom Capers. Wade Phillips of San Diego and Buffalo fame was mentioned as a possible head coach for Houston and they seemed quite favorable...also noting the fact that Bum Phillips, his dad is kind of a hero in those parts. The second person they spoke of as a hot head coach prospect was Jim Haslett, saying he tried twice to resign from NO and may just go ahead at the end of the season. I liked him as a player and he had some early success with a terrible team in a terrible organization and had the year from hell this year. Maybe Haslett will be in the mix for Buffalo? What do you think?

Why not Phil Hansen for HC?

The above was meant for you. That sounds like the ideal draft plan.
