Hawk is impressive, but we have arterial bleeding on the offensive line and pretty close to that on the defensive line. Ironically drafting or otherwise acquiring a DT or two might help the entire defense behind the line more than drafting Hawk will. I will say this...if I were going to make an exception to my basic drafting rule for the Bills (nobody under 300 or so pounds) Hawk would be one of the first I'd look at.

Think about how much better off we would be if instead of looking at Losman scrambling and on his back we were looking at Leinart scrambling and on his back

I would be embarrassed to inflict the present Buffalo Bills football on any more people than actually have to see them. I think playing at 1 pm on Sunday with a blackout would be the best way for them to play until they get considerably better.

They left their hearts in Buffalo
tennesseeboy replied to BILLS02138's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love Buffalo and get up there at least three or four times a year. Grew up there, worked my way through school there as a Deputy Sheriff, and think it is one great city. That being said, I love east Tennessee. Got the Blue Ridge Mountains a half hour away with great skiing, got TVA lakes for boating and fishing, Got great medical care right down the street, no traffic, no snowstorms, no hurricanes. I love it here, south enough to enjoy great weather (went golfing on Sunday) and north enough to get a real change of seasons. But Buffalo will always have the special place in my heart. -
I think there is a building consensus that the best lineman (perhaps the best football player) in this draft may be Ferguson. I think the PR aspect will be the reason that two of the franchises will pass on him for the USC contingent- Houston and San Francisco. I think Ferguson goes number 3 or number 4. I think he is exactly what we need, but I'm less and less hopeful of him being around even at our low (4th through 9th?) draft pick.

YES YES YES. That is Exactly the strategy we should use. There are a remarkable number of very good defensive line prospects and some fine o-line choices that will be available in the low first through third round choices. We could actually go a long way toward rebuilding the team if we follow this course. John for GM!!!!

Which of these potential HC candidates do you want

Nah..but I heard his brother Stirling go on about how TD and MM were turning the Buffalo Bills around (kind of tuned him out after that.) Sharpe boys don't seem all that sharp. -
Major props for Wade Phillips....

I am one of those who thought he was a good head coach. Given the circumstances of his departure I don't think there is ANY was he would come back to work for Ralph or that Ralph would have him come back and work for him. Wade will be a successful head coach next year. Just not here. -

Bills still not out of the running...

The best player for the first pick for anyone is Bush or Ferguson. For us it would be Ferguson. He is without a doubt going in the first five picks. Let's hope Houston is sold on Bush and SF is sold on Lienart and we'll just have to see if we get the best lineman in the draft. -
Season was over for me when...

Actually I was kind of holding on to hope until the second half of the Miami game. That second half kind of hit me over the head with the fact that this team was a remarkably bad football team. What kills me is that I still believe there are a number of very good players on it. I know what you're thinking..."what do you call a very good player" who plays the way we have the last part of this season?" A very bad player. -
Anybody catch the Buff News "error"?

Okay Coach M... a little less wind...a little more sail. -
Where are all the Moulds Bashers Today?
tennesseeboy replied to JDG's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I suspect if we are anywhere near competitive in the bidding that will be out there for Moulds, he'll return. He's the big fish in this little pnd, and he's a little long in the tooth to establish himself with another team. He will probably be the number 2 guy on a top team, and the number one guy on a weaker team where he won't be the leader. If Mularkey goes, or if the two of them sort out whatever is between them, I think we can get him back next year. -
for those who continue to insist that we are ...

With such a terrible offensive line, I'm not ready to critique the quarterback, running backs or receivers. I'm pretty happy with our linebackers and think our defefensive backs, particulary McGee and Clements are good. We shore up the lines and we can have a 9 win season next year. The question mark for me is Losman, and I'm going to have faith in him improving next year. Getting a competent head coach is a must...without that we'll be fighting it out with houston next year for another high draft pick. -
the bills now lead league in 1 important category

Geez. How bad can it get? -
I suspect that Ferguson will be a better than serviceable first year player. However, even if we don't get him and go with another strong OL draft choice in the draft, let's let them play into a strong offensive line. I can't imagine we won't play better than we did this year even with an all-rookie o line.
-
I am convinced that we are four stud players away from a playoff team. three of the players are offensive linemen and the other is a first rate Defensive Tackle. I think our d-backs (keeping Clements, of course) have another year in them, the linebackes with Spikes are competitive. and our O-backs, receivers and qb (Losman) can get us into serious competition for a playoff spot. But getting four stud players isn't all that easy, and Losman has to continue to develop. This can be turned around by building from the trenches out.

This team has quit for the season

Hmmm...the Jets and the Bills will be in a serious fight for the better draft position. The competition and efforts by both teams to lose this game will be awe-inspiring. -

number ones can be a good thing. Look at Bruce Smith and OJ...However, you have a point that they can be a major bust or grossly over-rated. I think Bush and Ferguson are "can't miss" choices for the number one pick, but after that I think its kind of risky. -
Another Good Trip/Bad Game For Me...

Thanks for the insight. Clearly we have a LOT of rebuilding to do. What a mess this season has been. -

tennesseeboy replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sounds like a pretty good plan to me, assuming Ferguson doesn't slip down to us. I just can't imagine us picking any better than fourth. -
I agree wholeheartedly. Some of the lineman may actually stay. One or possibly two may start, but not because they are NFL starters. They will start only because we could only get three starters through draft and free agency. And they will be weak links.
-
Ahh...and I remember pushing Saban when we hired Mularkey. College head coach can't be a successful NFL Coach. He wouldn't leave college ball. Sigh.

You got a "none of the above" choice?

Terrell Owens- Lets make a splash
