  1. Actually Jim Kelly played in Miami and Houston, and I think Bart Starr played at Alabama. Joe Ferguson played at Arkansas, and Terry Bradshaw played in Louisiana. I'm not all that concerned that a guy comes from the south.
  2. This....although I might just skip Johnson and take Andrew Luck. Hard decision.
  3. I'm not saying Te'o will be a bust, but the Alabama game showed his limited skills against high quality (and big) opponents. I think he will be successful in a 3-4, but don't see him being a keeper in a 4-3. I certainly don't think he'll be a bust in the NFL but I think he has to go to a program that maximizes his physical ability and his talents.
  4. Well we will certainly be looking at some good linebackers and offensive linemen in the first round, and I would think we'd get the best linebacker available. Quarterback in the second sounds like a plan and we should get one of the "top" qbs of a fairly disappointing class if we go that route. I'm wondering whether we ought to look at some top flight receiver or CB at 2 and see if we can pick up some qb to tread water this year until next year when some interesting qb prospects will be available.
  5. The thought of a new coach being so "comfortable" he is hiring his best buddy and the qb he coached in college is scary. This is a Buffalo weakness in that we hire coaches who are given free rein to stumble and bumble for years without pressure and then we fire them to get another stumbler and bumbler. The coach should know that there is an EXPECTATION that he will turn the team around starting in year 1 and will be expected to be in the playoffs on year 2. That will dissuade him from taking on a flier on personal comfort selections in hiring or in drafting.
  6. Teo has probably lost a lot of stock as a draft choice after Alabama, but let's see how he does in the combine and after the smoke clears from the championship debacle. I think as of now he is a late first or early second round pick, making him an unlikely choice for us.
  7. I'll say it again...He might be a good inside linebacker in a 3-4 but he doesn't have the athleticism or size for MLB in 4-3 nfl scheme.
  8. Qell...Marrone is a clean slate, which is both bad and good. I just hope he is able to envision us as a playoff team and lay out and execute a strategy to get us there in a reasonable time (two to three years max.).
  9. Notre Dame would be under Alabama and probably Georgia. IMHOP it would be a South Carolina or Florida caliber school based on what they showed throughout the season. Before last night I would have said Notre Dame is slightly under Alabama...but we (I'm a huge Notre Dame fan) took one hell of a whuppin last night.
  10. After last night I have to say I'm not all that convinced Te'o is the guy we need. Let's see what he does before the draft, but against a very high quality offense he sure came up short. Those Alabama offensive linemen look like very hot prospects though.
  11. I'm not optimistic but the guy deserves a chance. He is what we have, and its up to him to show what he can do with the draft coming on, with free agency, and with keeping existing quality players, and then he has to turn them into something respectable on the field. This time we should give him a timeline and some expectations instead of just floundering around for four or five years.
  12. take us to the playoffs and the doom and gloom would disappear overnight. I think fourth best is a little low, but I could see Chicago being a better bet and think we could lay claim to the second or third best opportunity.
  13. none of the above. The head coach should have worked at a significant level in a winning program, should ideally have NFL experience, Although Chip Kelly or Brian Kelly might be exceptions. Losing program, losing coach. We already know how to lose.
  14. good analysis. I think that the Bills job is one of the best openings out there based on the talent on board. Get a qb (Alex Smith or maybe tyler wilson from Arkansas) and we might actually go to the playoffs next year. Coaches and potential coaches want to know if they can win where they are hired, and there is a great case to be made that we are a team that has what it takes to do that.
  15. Teo is perfect for a 3-4 defense, not us, unfortunately. Unless of course we want to just skip back to the 3-4 as the defense dujour for the next coach on the carousel and make a four or five year plan for rebuilding. Teo doesn't have the physical makeup for a 4-3. I see him going to Pittsburgh.
  16. In the final analysis the potential coach is going to evaluate the talent and what it will take to get to the playoffs. The negative is we havent been there in darn near forever. The strong point is we DO have a lot of playoff talent and haven't put it together. At the beginning of the season I said if Chan didn't get nine wins with this team he should be fired. That was because I felt with good coaching that this team had it in it to get nine wins. Then new coach here would have all the ingredients except the quarterback (huge ingredient by the way.)
  17. The Jets. They had two reasonable alternatives to a failiing Sanchez and didn't go with either at the time it could have made a difference. The Bills made a Fitz commitment and had no real back-up or contingency plan. On the other hand at lease Ryan HAD a contingency (which he didn't use) and Chan and Nix failed to put any contingency in place.
  18. I'm kind of looking at the two teams at the moment. The Lions have a much better quarterback, IMHOP and certainly have a franchise receiver (Megatron) and a defensive line monster (Suh) going forward. I think we have the possibility of a franchise running back, and a very good receiver in Johnson. I hate to say it, but looking future wise at the Bills with Chan at the helm, I'd have to pick the Lions.
  19. Tebow is a team player who is ready to play a role as assigned. He would counter the existing attitude of defeat. Get him to motivate the offense, and build the team on a primarily run game (Spiller and Jackson with Tebow as qb). Or even platoon him with the actual replacement we get in the draft. I'd love to see us get Te'o from Notre Dame as an attitude guy who makes the defense play better. All of this assumes we dump the existing administration.
  20. The Buffalo series has rather comical as well the last few years. Come to think of it the away game series is worth a chuckle or two.
  21. I can't see any of them staying under the present coach and gm. Maybe not even if they are gone. Perhaps finding someone they could have confidence in might help in the negotiations (Fewell?). This should be a huge priority.
  22. move 1. Fire Chan and Buddy move 2. Sign free agents move 3. lose out to improve draft position (from the way we are playing it seems the bills are well on their way to this goal. move 4. Clear up cap room to move wisely in free agent market. move 5. Choose best qb or best lb available at number one.
