I respect your point of view and you certainly raise a valid point. However, it is possible the kid may have an AJ Hawk kind of year and may grow in the position. The big issue is clearly run stopping and a good part of that is speed and raw talent. Okoye, I think could step in with less of a learning curve, but I think our critical need is for a good middle linebacker. Willis is ready to step in pretty much in the same way Brian Urlacher or Zach Thomas or AJ Hawk did in their rookie years and make a real contribution. We should only hope he is in the same class as the three mentioned!

Although I still like Okoye, and am sure Peterson or Lynch are blue chippers...I have to look at which of the blue chippers will help us most. With Willis in the middle we will be better off in the linebacker corps than we were last year and we will probably have a much better defense even with the loss of clements. Spikes is injury prone and declining and Fletcher (loved his attitude) was not able to make the plays necessary for an effective cover-2. Our existing DT's might very well step up to the plate this year. Running backs? I don't think Peterson is going to fall to us...and I don't think Lynch is going to contribute to our offense in any sense the way Willis will contribute to our defense. Willis is the guy I think we ought to pick. Assuming he's available at 12 That's the best short term pick. Solidifying the Middle Linebacker position? Pretty priceless in the long run as well.

It truly is an all-out 24 hour non-stop assault on the senses. I woke up today and was busy doing stuff early this morning so never turned the TV on..and instead of Imus listened to music on satellite radio...I'm beginning to think that the incessant barrage of news is one of our most serious modern day stressors. They are really turning this tragedy into a wallow in pity a thon. Terrible thing...but lets pray for the families, learn whatever we're supposed to learn from this...and move on.

I could see us drafting Brian Leonard in the THIRD round. He apparently is picking up steam in draft circles. I like Pittman and Irons as the second round running backs for us. However, I am partial to Leonard...just don't see him going that high. I like the reasoning on the first pick though.

Fletcher and Spikes had seen their best days and were becoming holes on their own, and it was time to get rid of them. Clements was going no matter what and he was like a racehorse plowing the back 40 in the Cover 2 anyway. McGahee had potential, but was a potential pain next year with whining about his contract, bellyaching and taking off for every minor injury (pulling himself for a bellyache?) I think there are real holes at linebacker, that we could definitely use a running back and that Okoye would DEFINITELY improve our run defense. I don't see any of the players leaving except the horribly expensive Clements as the type of players who would get us very far into the playoffs, let alone to the superbowl.

I can't see it. We are gauranteed a blue chipper at 12-whichever of Okoye, Peterson or Willis slips to us. Why give up a second or even a third to get one over the other? I say wait and grab one of the three.

The kid was acting out pretty badly for at least a year before the incident, including the silent treatment, starting fires, stalking and other very very bizarre behavior. Face it, he was a very sick fella, no question. Some people are just plain mentally ill, and looking for a "cause" might be fruitless.
