  1. I have heard on the tv and NFL radio that the talk is about a second rounder for him. Get an OT in the first round and McNabb for a second rounder and we would have a significantly improved offense. Interesting possibility. He is 33 and should have significant years left, despite a pretty serious series of injuries. I'm ambivalent, but leaning a little more toward the idea of going for it.
  2. I would imagine it will come up in negotiating that first contract. "Look, your client is asking for more than any other nine pick is receiving and pretty close to what the eight pick got..I have to question the guys commitment if he tested positive for marijuana, and you'd have to be showing me a guy with talent and smarts enough not to get into a mess before the draft to ask me to go for those kinds of dollars."
  3. Let's see the Ravens wanted Edwards to undergo neck surgery and he flunked the physicals for the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks before getting $18 mill from us? This is the guy who will turn our defense around?
  4. We signed an RT who provided leadership for the Raiders? An RT that Oakland was happy to get rid of? An RT whose claim to fame is an inordinate number of penalties? (I think we already have an RT who is pretty good at getting penalties and needs no leadership from the fellow we have) Its not that we are not getting football players...its that we're not getting very good football players.
  5. I think I'll wait until after the draft. We have a "fluid" qb situation, haven't addressed the o-line, and are apparently making a radical change on defense going to a 3-4. Whole new coaching staff, lost some players to free agency. I'm not optimistic but I'll withhold predictions until we finish the draft.
  6. I think we have to address the offensive line and then a few other needs before taking a chance on a third rounder like Lefevour. I say this not because LeFevour is bad, and some team with fewer needs might take him in round two or three and be very very pleased with him. I just don't think we have the luxury of overlooking glaring areas of need in the trenches with our earlier picks. The "scatback" in round 4 or 5? I could live with it, although I would rather see us going in other directions.
  7. AHHH...the patriots were looking for a player with non-existent receiving skills and eroding blocking..Actually we already have tight ends who can't block and don't receive very well..so no point in looking at that guy.
  8. it would be nice if he would emphasize how we are actually going to address areas of actual need.
  9. I'm reassured. Demetrius Bell is a "work in progress". The alll pro defensive end who is on the verge of possible retirement is being wooed by moving him to a brand new position in a 3-4 offense. That ought to get him to think about staying. Reminds me of how Williams going from a 3-4 to a 4-3 forced Hansen into early retirement. At least its good to know how great Demetrius Bell is, as I kind of missed that during the season.
  10. Besides...Buddy was sleeping when the deal went down....
  11. I actually like the idea and agree with Gailey that we have a very impressive group of safeties. If Wilson or Scott are good enough to start and beat out the starters, I can't imagine they wouldn't get the opportunity to earn the starting position. DB's are the strength of this team.
  12. I agree...the story was interesting and the issue is not whether the guy slept that night. The bigger issue is whether there is significant movement to improve the team. Finding and/or keeping good offensive linemen, replacing Reed at receiver, getting appropriate personnel if we are going to go to a 3-4 and getting personnel to play the 4-3 better (actually building or improving our defense to stop the run) should be something addressed using every available source and making judgements and decisions. Very many good teams are actively in the market and making appropriate moves. We just aren't seeing that out of the present iteration of "grumpy old men" (I say this being a charter member of "grumpy old men" myself.).
  13. Aaron Kampman, Jaguars: One of the best defensive ends on the market is no longer on the market. Early Sunday morning, or late Saturday Night, the former Green Bay Packers’ defensive end, Aaron Kampman, signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Maybe the Jags were sick and tired of drafting over-hyped defensive ends in hopes of improving their suspect pass rush, because they don’t have to hope their guy becomes a pro-bowler, Kampman already has been. He was forced to play OLB last year for the Packers when the switched to the 3-4, but he should move right back to comfort and his proper position in the Jags 4-3. This is one of the best pickups of the offseason. Karlos Dansby, Miami Dolphins: The Dolphins really went big. Dansby was probably the 2nd best unrestricted free agent available this offseason, and the Dolphins could certainly use Dansby’s all around great play. The elite linebacker played a huge role in making Arizona one of the best run defense in the league, and he can get after the passer as well. Having athletes like Karlos is very important to the Dolphins defensive scheme, and it’s always good to get one of the best football players in the league to join your team. This guy will have a huge impact on the Dolphins’ improved defense. Kevin Walter, Houston Texans: Walter was courted by a couple teams, but knowing his worth and the solid things he does on the field, helping the Texans to be one of the best passing offenses in all of football, it’s understandable why Houston resigned the receiver. I still think that the Texans would have been better off spending their money elsewhere and giving the talented speedster, Jacoby Jones, a shot – but Walter is back, and Jones is back to the #3 receiver, which turns out to be the #5 option in the offense. Terms weren’t disclosed. Chad Clifton, Green Bay Packers: Clifton visited the Washington Redskins, probably just to show the Packers that he was serious. He self admittedly loved Green Bay, but it probably took a trip to Washington to force the Packers into paying him at market value, maybe even a little more. When you consider what Aaron Rodgers had to go through and the pressure he dealt with all season, you can imagine how worried the Packers were about possibly losing their best lineman. Green Bay still needs to get better up front, but keeping Clifton was a good way to keep that offense going forward. His 3 year deal is worth 20 million. Apparently the NFL isn’t dealing with the same money issues as the NBA, eh? Anquan Boldin, Baltimore Ravens: This is where a lot of people that kept saying “Anquan Boldin isn’t a #1 receiver” are going to get full helpings of their words. The tough-nosed Boldin will be out to prove everyone wrong, and if you have seen the guy play, he has the type of attitude that will help him excel to another level. Boldin was traded with a 5th round pick to Arizona for a 3rd and 4th rounder. Boldin gives the Ravens an instant boost offensive, and should open up the field for the running game just that much more. If Derrick Mason comes back, that gives the Ravens a very good 1-2 punch. Boldin also signed a new contract with the team, so he should be happy and ready to contribute even more-so now that he’s getting paid what he’s worth Thgese are a few of the players buddy might have made a play for that would have helped us this year.
  14. nah...his sleeping is okay. The point is he let a number of good players and coaches go and hasn't replaced them with anything that looks like any improvement in the team. He can sleep all frigging day as far as I'm cocerned as long as he does something to improve the team. Dumping players and not replacing at least some of them in free agency or trades is not a good sign at all.
  15. Excellent points all. The better coaches were snapped up and have had good careers with a bad team. The Giants took Fewell, and I think the Giants have more superbowl rings than we do. Actually almost every team has more superbowl rings than we do. TO and Reed are good receivers, and they haven't been replaced with anyone as good. Denney was a good backup DE and we need more defensive linemen. Incognito was one of the few offensive linemen who played well for us. The team is not as good as it was the day Nix and Gailey took over. Maybe that will change, but I would have expected at least to have broken even in the horse trading and free agency to date. As of now what had been a mediocre team is on its way to becoming a bad team.
  16. Thbe 1964 and 1965 teams still can lay claim to being the best teams in pro football in those years. They had a defense that was better than anything the NFL had, and a running game and passing game that would have been tough to beat. All the other teams had a chance to prove they were the best in the game...and, quite frankly, they didn't pull through. I'll stake claim to those two being the best in the game, having watched thes bills throughout those seasons, and I'd stack them up against the Packers or Cowboys in either of those seasons.
  17. In this case a distinction without a difference. Neither one is a franchise qb.
  18. Until we ever actually win a superbowl there can be NO QUESTION that the Bills greatest victory was- AFL Championship - Mike Stratton KOs Charger's Keith Lincoln (1964) Everything else is and was chopped liver.
  19. Buddy replied: "well...we can't do it all in one year...or two....or three....and by then I'll be in a friggin nursing home!"
  20. I agree that finding a franchise qb is important, but you have to have a line where that franchise qb can be successful. Aikman darn near got killed his first year. The MOST IMPORTANT point in present discussion is the fact that neither of the only two qb's being touted in the first round is what anyone would consider a franchise type prospect. Brady Quinn and David Carr revisited. The Offensive Tackle and defensive line positions look to be quite good this year and we have needs in both areas that can pretty surely be addressed in this draft. I'd be the first to say go with Peyton or Eli Manning, or even Phillip Rivers if they were in this draft, but they aren't. So...go with the players who most improve this team...and that's almost certainly an offensive tackle or defensive player (LB, DT or DE).
  21. That is the WORST thing I've read on this board. You would think the players are in it for the money the way you talk. Why would a player come to buffalo for a few million more than someone else might pay? It makes me sick the way some people think of players as in it for the money. Most of these guys are in it just for the love of the game.
  22. my team ETSU is playing Kentucky on thursday at 7:15 in New Orleans. Last year we drew Pittsburgh (another 1 seed) and gave them a hell of a game. Gave Cincinnatti a good game and lost to Wake Forest by one in recent tournaments. I'm not too hopeful as our team is mostly freshmen and sophomores, but hey...I'd love to be the first 16 seed to beat a 1 seed. The ETSU women are going to the dance again this year too....We are looking forward to a better seed for them so we'll have to watch the show tonite for the women's game.
