It’s almost like we shouldn’t depend on veteran jags for our boy Josh to throw to. Hopefully next year we hammer the WR position in the draft a little harder instead of rotational d linemen early and often

Good Night / Bad Night - Pre-season game 2
NeverOutNick replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is all well and good but when you have guys like Nabers, MHJ and Odunze making immediate impact you have to wonder if maybe we should’ve traded up for a WR1 or at least went after more WRs in the draft to see if one of them could make the first year impact that so many WRs do (puka 2023, Pickens 2022, St Brown 2021). I think Coleman will have a role and be impactful this year but would be nice to have a few more options for our once in a lifetime QB who isn’t getting any younger -
I think this is close to accurate thus far. Maybe the LBs aren’t right and shavers could be put on PS for a guy like Corey Davis but good take. Hate the safety room but I agree that at this point both hardy and hamler make it
-
If only we took more WRs in the draft 🤷🏻♂️…right now there are only 4 locks (Shakir, Coleman, samuel, Hollins) . I’m hopeful Hamler makes it and we give Corey Davis a chance. That’s a solid 6

Good Night / Bad Night - Pre-season game 2

I sort of agree with you but he so regularly nails rounds 4- 7 that it makes me feel McD has a lot of say early on in the draft. How else do you explain back to back DEs in 2021 for the rotational D line guru or forcing yourself to take CB when it was clear as day the guy they wanted was just taken a pick ahead of them in 2022. Even this year we check the box of getting Josh ONE WR early (IN A LOADED WR class) and then go right back to positions we could easily find cheap in free agency (rotational D line and safety)…Beane is great at finding diamonds but sucks at seeing the biggest problem right in front of him. Our franchise QB needs a consistent plethora of weapons. GB, SF and even Cincy do it year in and year out and never have a problem letting their overpaid guys go because of it (Adams, Aiyuk,…Diggs 🤔) Side note: I was flabbergasted at how well Andreessen played but I’m also skeptical because he looked so out of place and easily pushed around the first game. I hope he’s more like this 2nd preseason game but I want to see it again before I buy him quality flowers and roll out the 53 man roster carpet everything else @GunnerBill nailed. Rousseau was clearly the best player on the field last night not even close and if he’s like this all year, with a healthy Von oh boy watch out -
When is it time for QB under Josh’s wings?
NeverOutNick replied to JROC INTEL's topic in The Stadium Wall
100%. Josh is the once in a lifetime QB that can play until he’s 40 for us. Having a QB to groom should be the last thing on our minds. Giving him everything he needs offensively, coaching, FO should be the only priority so that he stays in Buffalo the next 10 years -
Man this topic is going off the rails. Kincaid and Shakir are the 2 most promising players we have as receiving threats on our roster. Stats be damned, the eye test shows that both are legitimate playmakers that are dependable at creating separation and making life easier for Josh. I love them both and think they both will thrive this year. BUT this doesn’t fix the glaring problem that Beane put us in. He continues to focus most of his draft capital on positions that can easily be had on cheap free agent signings instead. In a draft most were stating was the deepest at WR in years and the biggest glaring hole we had on our roster, he chose to only take one. Teams like the 9ers and packers take multiple chances at WR each year and when they have a Devante Adams or Brandon Ayuick problem it doesn’t matter because they still have a plethora of young cheap options waiting in the wings while we scrape the bottom of the free agent toilet to find guys who can’t catch a 5 yard curl. I love Beane for how he gets this team what it needs most years but his lack of focus in the draft to help out McDs D with rotational D lineman over giving Josh weapons he can grow with is a huge problem

100% I know some liked the bishop and Carter picks but I’ll say it again, this was an insanely loaded WR class and you come out of it with one, they already look like idiots in my eyes, and I love Beane. Taking AD Mitchell over Bishop or Troy Franklin over Carter would’ve been been great this year and long term. Not hard to find a decent safety or rotational DT depth but it is hard to find young cheap play making WRs
-
Amen! Those are the 2 that matter this year. Yes it would’ve been awesome to have a splash in the draft and get Odunze or go multiple WRs like the packers do with the chance at Coleman, AD Mitchell and Troy Franklin (1st, 2nd and 3rd round) or heck we could’ve paid to get ayuik but at the end of the day this is what we’ve got at WR. I’m confident in Shakir and Kincaid after that it’s a week to week with Samuel being the gadget guy, Hollins being our special teams leader who occasionally makes a big play and Coleman hopefully he becomes a steady constant come playoff time. I’d love for Hamler to be on the team because of his explosiveness but he needs to not suck the last 2 preseason games. That last spot would be cool to have a guy like Corey Davis but I’m not holding my breath because who knows if he still has it in him. He hasn’t been healthy since like 2020

Heck ya give him a shot. Always liked him in college

And we could’ve had him in the 3rd round 🤦🏻♂️

JA’s favorite pass of his NFL career
NeverOutNick replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
Was at the stadium for this one. Awesome! -
Winds were crazy in the stadium on Saturday. These guys hadn’t been practicing at this stadium in these conditions. I cut the returners a little slack for their very first attempts and I hope the coaches and Beane realize that too. Hamler was the most explosive athlete on our team Saturday and we’ll regret not hanging on to him over some other JAG
-
Isn’t this the case no matter what the rest of the team looks like? I would’ve loved for us to trade our first 3 picks (Coleman, bishop, Carter ✌️) this year and a first rounder next year to trade up to 9 for Odunze because he’s a legit step in day one WR1 but I am also amped up to see Brady and his spread the ball around positionless system and if it really lets Josh play loose and at his best My favorite attribute that our top receiving threats have (Shakir, Kincaid and Coleman) is solid hands. I don’t want to see a bunch of dumbass drops this year
-
It’s fine to point out how we didn’t play well with specifics on what we’d like to see improved but to over exaggerate the level of concern on our potential 53 man roster off of the first preseason game is ludicrous. Most of these guys that played game one won’t make the team. Like I stated before I’m confident at the end of preseason, we will have good depth as per usual at every position except safety The most important thing I saw yesterday besides Josh staying healthy was McD actually being a competent HC by focusing on in game decision. He keeps doing that all season and doesn’t micromanage the coordinators and I may change my tune on him needing to go. I don’t want to see any more botched games because of 12 men on the field, Hamlin fake punts, and not letting your superstar QB win a game in regulation in a tie game with time on the clock. Outside of coaching we need only a couple things to go our way and I see us getting to at least the AFC championship game - Josh stays healthy all season - Von and Milano are close to their old form all season Stay focused McD on game management and we’ve got a shot to win it all this year
-
It’s been one preseason game. Let’s wait until at least end of the second before throwing all of our depth under the bus. We’ve got a lot of injuries right now so hopefully come 2nd and 3rd preseason game we’ll see everyone’s best. I bet our 53 man roster will be just as good or better than it has been in years past (outside of safety) BUT if we look this bad after week 3 of preseason and cut day is fast approaching I may jump on board with you lol

Bears @ Bills - Preseason Game 1 - SAT 08/10 - 1 PM
NeverOutNick replied to DaBillsFanSince1973's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agree with all of it but fixed the Shakir part. Also impressed with Rousseau in his limited action. And I love Hamlers explosiveness. He needs to make the team because he has a skill set no one else does.
