Conversely, what would Big Ben have become with Jauron as his QB? (That was a rhetorical question - we all know the answer - An obscure rapist!) -
With all due respect to Gruden's opinion (not): He won the SB with Dungy's team and he never could find a a long term starting QB for his own team.

Nix denies talking to Pitt about Ben...
BillsfaninSixburgh replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm sure your correct that all you named aren't choir boys. But like the majority of Pittsburgh fans who value the "image" of the team over any player, I feel the same way about the Bills. The BR situation is unique in this way, he is probably the highest profile/most talented NFL player ever to be accused of rape (or anything of such a serious nature) in history. I don't want to see the "Rapelisberger" name on the back of Bills jerseys. That's not meant to be the typical "Rapelisberger" crack you see all the time either. I guarantee you that is what you'll will see Browns, Bengals and Ravens fans wearing when they play the Steelers if BR is still with the team. So while a number of current and former Bills might have their issues, they dont keep the news cycle churning in a negative fashion 24/7 for two straight months the way BR has in Pittsburgh for the past 2 months. That's why I say pass on him. -
Nix denies talking to Pitt about Ben...
BillsfaninSixburgh replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let's see. The Bills new assistant GM Whaley just came from the Steelers organization two months ago. It seems that a) he probably still has some contacts in Pittsburgh that he still talks to, even if unofficially; and b) he probably knows one or two tidbits about Ben that the public does not. When Buddy says no one has talked to "him", I would take that quote literally. My guess is the Bills and Steelers have had some form of communication (even if its the "friend of a friend" variety) regardless of what Buddy is saying. It may go absolutely no where, so the public statement may always be "we never talked to them". -

Probably the same way people here in Pittsburgh are. Die hard Steelers fans whose life revolves around the Steelers say the Steelers would be nuts to trade him. The rest of the population, included most women (football fan or not) want him run out of town. Most die hard Bills fans who only care about wins and losses would welcome him. The rest of the poulation, and those die-hard Bills fans like myself who have taken pride in the Bills for many years in good times and in bad, would rather see him go to the Raiders where he can wallow in football obscurity until Al Davis dies. Ben has been convicted in the court of public opinion. People who say its "just about football" forget that the NFL and an NFL franchise are a multi billion dollar entertainment and image enterprise. To a city like Buffalo or Pittsburgh, an NFL franchise represnts a source of civic pride and common bond. We all want a winner. But some of us want a team that doesn't disgrace us either. (and I'm well aware of past Bills players and their transgressions). -
Bills NOT interested in Rapelisberger
BillsfaninSixburgh replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From a former Steeler teammate, passing on BR is right move. I've had a front row seat for the past two months on this thing. It is non-stop on TV and radio. As I die-hard Bills fan in Pittsburgh, and having seen Ben play every week for 4 years (since the Steelers are always on in Primetime and the Bills Sunday at 1pm), I can tell you 2 months ago the thought of BR in a Bills uniform would have been a pipedream and pure fantasy. Mike Logan, a former Steelers defensive back, who now co-hosts the ESPN afternoon drive in the Burgh said something to the effect this afternoon that "Ben's relationship before this incident was questionable with his teammates. The other guys in the locker room will say the right things publicly because they want to win. But Ben's leadership and relationship with most of his teammates was already in question. Now he's going to miss (up to) six games that will cost the team. Some guys on that team have young daughters, and won't be able to put that out of their minds." Win at all cost proponents will respond "so-what, he's won two Super Bowls"? I would ask, does bringing a guy like that into the locker room help the team or hurt the team. The Bills need talent, no doubt. Ben's talent would help. But they also need some leadership to help develop a winning attitude. Ben hasn't done that in Pittsburgh, but he's been fortunate to have the organization around him with Coaches like Cowher and Tomlin, as well as veterans like Bettis, Ward, Polomalu to take that pressure off his back. Who's going to do that in Buffalo? For the past week, with the premise of BR becoming a Bill developing into a feasible possibility, and with all that has come out about Ben, I've been asking myself the question repeatedly "If I just got the news that BR was now a Bill, how would I react to that?" A lot of Steelers fans would be torn if Ben was gone, and as a Bills fan so would I. Obviously, I want a guy with his talent at QB. But on the other hand, unlike some of the whiners and bandwagon jumpers on OBD, the Bills mean a lot more to me than winning football games. If all I cared about was wins and losses, I would have stopped follwoing them before Jim Kelly got there, and I definitely would have spared myself the emotional grief of the past decade and just become an outright Steelers fan. You don't go to the Bills-Steelers game at Heinz Field wearing a red white and blue jersey like my son and I did two years ago knowing the Bills are going to stink the joint out unless you bleed red, white and blue. That said, if the Bills ended up with BR, I would take the good with the bad. The Bills could drop the pretense of saying they want "character guys", and if they won with Ben, I'd be happy. If Ben's a bust, well the Bills will loase more games, but I couldn't see myself passionately defending them in the future, especially to Steeler fans. On the other hand, if they pass on Ben, I got no problem with that. The might keep losing, but I could still take some pride wearing my Bills jersey the next time they come to Pittsburgh to play. The Bills, they're an ugly mutt, but there still MY MUTT!! -

Is Vinny Cerrato referring to Maybin?
BillsfaninSixburgh replied to thebandit27's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Vinny Cerrato is a bum who has been fired by the Redskins twice! What have the Redskins done the past ten years, many of which were under his direction as GM. Hey Vinny, if your such an effin genius, why didn't you think to pick Tom Brady..in oh let's say the 5TH ROUND!!! Then you'd really be a genius instead of Scott Pioli. BTW...Maybin or not....who cares!!!!!! Let's just get the draft over with so the talking heads can change the subject from "mock drafts" to "grading the draft". -
Big Ben - Pitt Listening to Offers
BillsfaninSixburgh replied to filthymcnasty08's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As of yesterday, most of the Pittsburgh media speculation was 1 or 2 games. Given the details that keep coming out form the police reports, and the increasing fan backlash locally, talk radio this morning was calling for probably 3 or 4 games. Given that a 4 game suspension has been the max for repeat offenders with charges filed against them (Pacman Jones for instance), and that Ben was not charged, most of the talking heads don't think it can or will be more than 4. -

The story in Sixburgh keeps getting worse for Ben....... I'm watching the 11:00 news in The Burgh. Moms aren't letting their kids wear Ben jerseys, other fans are burning their jerseys. One of the policeman who was photographed with Ben the night of the Georgia incident resigned. More details from the police report that make Ben look even worse came out, and the local news is carrying them non-stop. The Rooney's/Steelers are "carefully watching the public backlash". One newscast called this an "unprecedented situation for Steelers Nation" with the fans who live for the black and gold criticizing the team and its qb. Hines Ward said Roethlisberger "dropped the ball." The Ben story was the lead news story on all three network affiliates and got about the first 8 minutes of each newscast - almost all negative. After 10 years of dreck on the field, I'm used to Bills fans openly criticizing the Bills en masse. In the time I have lived in Pittsburgh I have never seen the locals express this kind of negativity towards the Steelers. All this, coupled with Art Rooney's non-answer today when asked if Ben was on the block really has me thinking that what would have been unthinkable a week or so ago. The Steelers might really try and trade Ben between now and the draft. Many in the sports media think Rooney's statement that "we have not discussed a trade with any other team" was an invitation to other teams to make an offer. Based on what I've seen here the last three days, my prediction is that Ben's playing for someone else be end of first round of the draft, but it won't be Buffalo. (Not necessarily because the Bills won't try, but their No 9 pick and lack of talent on the roster won't give them enough to give the Steelers the value they will want). -
Because as they say "Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while!" Maybe one of these days that nut will be another Jim Kelly or Bruce Smith instead of Erik Flowers, JP Losman or John McCargo Past Bills war rooms: <Marv <=Jauron <=Guy <= Brandon <=Ralph <==Me Current Bills war room: <=Buddy <= Chan <=me

Just listened to Art Rooney presser...... He didn't say much, but.............. 1. Ben will face discipline which will be coordinated between Steelers and NFL Commish (to be announced after NFL Draft) and 2. Steelers do not discuss specific trades (more importantly..he DID NOT DENY when asked if Steelers were looking to trade Ben). His exact words were: "At this point, we have not discussed a trade with any other club". Read into it what you want. Steeler talk radio is already taking it to mean Ben is on the block. -

What's This? A positive report about the Bills?

The Genny Cream avatar gets a lot of buzz and has some tradition in my family. To clarify...I hate the stuff.....but it is a tribute to my 5ft nothin' 95 pound grandmother who used to put a six pack a day away when I was growing up in WNY. My buddies and I tried the stuff in high school, all we remember is green sh*ts. -

My impression, and most of the Pittsburgh sports media has said the same thing, is that the DA basically said "something happened, I don't have enough evidence to prove it in court" The following post contains a lot of the local sentiment. I don't vouch for the source, but I'm hearing similiar stories from multiple media outlets. http://sportsbybrooks.com/big-ben-to-girls...-my-shots-28034 -

Agree. I would think with Whaley's connection to the Steelers, at the very least a call has been made. But as stated in my original post, the Steelers aren't stupid. If Ben goes somewhere, it will be for a king's ransom. -

I question the claim "His areas of expertise include NBA and NFL" He's a college freshman, can he really have any "areas of expertise"? I have two son's in college. Their areas of expertise are "beer and bumming money from Dad (to buy beer)." -

Actually, I think 1st rounder, plus Lee Evans is something the Steelers might give a sniff. They'd probably still want something else (like a future 2nd round pick). Since they dumped Santonio Holmes, they need a top line receiver. Evans in Pittsburgh would be a good fit.
