  1. Pretty much sums it up. But as the OP is indicating, there is always some good to take from a situation. These last 10 years have been hard on the Bills nation. But, at some point and time the team will come out of the wilderness and compete again. So goes the cyclical nature of all things. This team is not bound for a bottom dweller much longer. I cannot subscribe to the notion that the Bills will have the seemingly endless futility in fate as the Lions have. It may take a couple of seasons, but the Bills are indeed, walking thier way out of the wilderness, and when they do come out and put W's up for 10+ a season, let us all rejoice that we have been delivered from darkness. So let it be written, So let it be done.
  2. If Luck isn't available when Buf picks in 1st round (and no one can say where that will be given there are 3 games left), I would hope Nix would trade down to garner as many picks in the top 3 rounds as possible and use them on Defensive players.
  3. None of what you write here is remotely correct, true or accurate. If you had a re-draft of those QB's mentioned, they would fall where they fell to begin with because scouts (contrary to your beliefs) have basically assessed these players as such due to their performances in college combined with the projected outlook of progression for those QB's. Scouts had absolutely zero to do with those QB's success. Coaching, Offensive philosophy and game plan, type of offensive, talent around those QB's and patience had everthing to do with thier individual developments. QB us consistantly overlooked at the draft, depending on which is the greater need at a given position, type of system or scheme that is being run or F.O. preferrence. This logic you use makes no sense once again, given the fact that QB's are drafted from round 1 to the end of the draft. No fact has been lost on the fanbase, you, apparantly, are just used to the last 15 years or so of the Bills. Whether or not Gailey and Nix believe Fitz is a franchise QB is completely irrelavent to who they will decide to choose on draft day. Fitz has already proven he can play, and although I'm no fan of Fitz, the driving factor for Gailey and Nix is going to be positions of "NEED". Do they need that franchise QB this draft if Luck is taken before they pick? Of course not. Like the author of the OP said, they'll go defense. They know what they need to improve the teams overall performance, and right now, QB isn't critical, defense is, specifically OLB and DE.
  4. And you of course, have proof that God is a fictional character?
  5. Ya, I guess I can come in here and say "I told ya so" but, "I told ya so". There were some who were saying Stevie J this and that and the other. Some were saying he was an elite receiver. Others were saying he was a pro bowl player. He is what he is, a receiver thats a work in progress. He's decent, he has shown he can perform, but he's not elite, not even close. Elite receivers make the clutch catches in OT. He'll improve with time, but he is hardly a pro bowl wide receiver. Lets finally lay this to rest and move along to the next game.
  6. Ummmm.............yes we keep him. Our LB Corps is a wreck, he can only help it once he's healthy.
  7. Merriman will be back next season. It wasn't a bad move at all. He will fill a role in the LineBacking Corp. And we need him. Give him the time to heal. He can't be any worse than what we have at linebacker now. With Poz, Merriman and a high end draft pick for LineBacker, I think Nix looks very smart next season. We weren't going to be able to fill all the holes in the draft anyways. Merriman will be back next season and our defense will be much better becuase of it.
  8. UMMMM..............I'm going to go out on a limb here and say NO , 8-8 is not a possibility. This is the 2 and 8 Buffalo Bills your asking about, correct?
  9. I agree with your post Joe. Talent taken in the 1st and 2nd round of the draft have historically been the masters of the grid-iron. It is what it is. I think the Bills end up in the 2 to 5 position this coming draft, which actually isn't bad. I would like them to consider trading down, if and only if a team is willing to give up its 1st and 2nd rounder to get our 1st round pick. Since I put up a most likely 2 to 5 spot in the draft scenairio for the Bills, I could see teams in the 15 to 22 pick overall consider giving up a 1st and 2nd rounder to move up, especially if they already have an additional 2nd rounder to fall back on. Would that help the Bills? Sure it would long term. By adding more top 2 round pick/picks, they add to the potential depth of the team. Will Nix and crew trade down? I don't know, I have no prior record of Nix at GM to base an estimation on.
  10. I hope they do The Senator. I am hoping for a 9-7 record or better in 2 seasons. Thats actually pretty quick considering the condition the team is in. I will say this team has a few things going for it that the late 80's team did not. 1. The offensve line This team has already started to put the talent in place on the O line. This affords the team the ability to address other positions come draft day, impact positions. 2. Wide Receivers With the emergence of Johnson this teams WR corp is a decent group. 3. Tight End Still waiting for the Pete Metzellars type of Tight End. The draft can address this. 4. Running Back Spiller is ok, Jackson is decent as well. Are they the answer, I hope Spiller is, since it was a 9th overall pick. 5. Quarterback Is Fitz the one? He can fill the role for the next couple of seasons. This gives us a longer time frame to eveluate that question. 6. The Defense DE and LB need to be addressed immediately in my opinion. These next 2 drafts 1st and 2nd rounders should address this. We need to get better on defense and by a large margin yet. The late 80's teams had many more holes to fill. So we really aren't that far off. This does depend on how the team drafts as well. I have confidence in Buddy Nix, he is a football guy. I think the Bills will really contend after next season. And I'm patient enough to wait for it.
  11. Well of course the Bills of the late 80's learned how to win. Two 2-14 and one 4-12 seasons prior to the 90's helped bring in the all star talent to learn how to win. It wasn't some magical moment that transpired. It took hitting rock bottom to get that good. This Bills team is hitting rock bottom.
  12. Good question. I am hoping after next season they start to show a 9-7 or better record. I didn't even bring up the 4-12 season following those 2-14 seasons. And you are correct, it took 5 more years after those seasons. I am just of the opinion that getting a high pick, trading down to garner more picks in the first 3 rounds accelerates that process. Does this mean I am actively infront of the TV rooting on the opposition? No, I still cheer when the Bills score and get happy when they win, anyone would. I just want the playoffs again and I want the fastest route we could take to get them back there, hence my opinion.
  13. I can't speak on the scouting dept. for the Lions. They've had thier opportunities to draft the appropriate personnel, they failed. I don't see the Bills as the Lions, but, according to your (lahjik) we should mirror thier failures? Complete nonsense. I am merely hoping for it as a fan. Not telling the team to do it. Two entirely seperate issues all together. (which, as a fan, is what I am afforded, the abiliy to speak my mind without any of the responsibility of putting a sellable product on the field every season). Lets all nit pick over the tank it comment, but completely ignore the statement on the reality of what its going to take to accelarete the teams ability to become competitive once again.
  14. This is your opinion, I respect that. The lengths some of you go to attempt to take a statement made by a fan out of context in an effort to support your view is absurd. Who is talking about the Head Coach telling his players to tank? I am rooting for it as a fan knowing full well the time frame we are looking at if we continue to hover in the middle of the pack. Reality is what it is. We had back to back 2 and 14 seasons in the run up to the 4 Super Bowl appearances. To attempt to pretend that didn't happen is what is absurd.
  15. Who ever said I didn't enjoy the games? Just because they've had a non playoff team in Buffalo for a decade doesn't mean I don't enjoy watching the games. We went through this before here in Buffalo, back in the 80's and I remember it well. I don't disagree with you that drafting and signing UFA's gets you depth. I am looking at the time parameters for a rebuild. Once again, I remember the rebuild time in the 80's, roughly 5 seasons of losing with 5 seasons of rebuilding. Here we have 10 seasons of losing, I'd like the rebuild to be accelerated a bit more than roughly 4 or 5 seasons. Trading down from a high end 1st round pick has more than the potential to do just that in my opinion. I think of things in simple terms, wins are useless for this team this season. Tank it, get as high a pick as you can and trade down in order to pick up more quality draft picks. Skeptics say it can't be done, I say it can and should be done. Also, having gone through a complete rebuild once before, next season isn't going to bring anything of promise either. Its going to take a few seasons to be competitive on a serious scale again.
  16. I would have preferred they lost in order to stay in the fight for the 1st overall pick. My explanation is a simple one. This current team is so far away from competing for a playoff spot (we won't even say a championship, cause they are way to far away for that to even be mentioned). By getting the 1st overall there is a chance this team could have traded down, picked up more picks in the top 3 rounds in an effort to not only bring in high end talent, but also to start filling out those depth roles.
  17. Trade down. It is the absolute most common sense thing to do. This team has so many needs to fill. More high end picks will fill some of them. Trade down.
  18. This! If the Bills trade the 1st overall, it should be for a trade down to acquire more high caliber draft picks. I.E. 1st over all for a 17 to 25 1st rounder and 2 early second rounders, 33 to 40. Thats the only way they should trade that pick. Grab those for depth, we can always grab another top 10 pick after the following season to continue the rebuild. But Vick is not the answer for Buffalo, not even close.
  19. Stevie Johnson is not an impact player. Regardless of these last few weeks. Us old schoolers no better. You want to be consider an impact player? Win a game on a play you complete. Losers go home and fondle themselves Stevie, Winners go home and f@#k the prom queen.
  20. I'll side with Schopp. The win-loss column doesn't lie. Hey Stevie, you can spew crap when you become an impact player, until then, the radio guy (who is also a fan) has it over on you.
  21. Thank you Eric Moulds. Thank you for your love of the team, of the city, of the fans. Thank you for showing us what we, as fans, are capable of. This interview really hit home for me. You, Jim Kelly, Andre Reed, Thurman Thomas, Steve Tasker, Darryl Talley, Cornilius Bennet, Bryce Paup, Shane Conlan, Bruce Smith, House Ballard, Wolfork, Kent Hull, Doug Flutie, Kenneth Davis, Marv Levy and most of all, Bill Polian. You all are the heart and soul of the area I grew up. The drive, never give up, never quit attitude has carried with me through out these many years. Thank you Eric Moulds, for saying what needed to be said, for feeling what fans needed the players of this current team to feel. Thank you.
  22. I should have been more specific, the actual construction costs were paid for as you have stated, but only to the extent that they were alloted to forego the taxation of those costs via the PILOT program. So, in so far as the money physically being spent, you are correct, in so far as the money actually being spent, I am correct. And the infrastructure upgrades you mention were only a portion of the funding. The architect of siphoning state tax capital to the downstate area for projects such as these is none other than Sheldon Silver. I should know, My firm had dealings with him and Featherstonhaugh, Wily & Clyne, LLP out of Albany over a 0 emmisions waste to energy facility here in WNY. Pay to Play (or, lets set a strategic plan as the democrats like to say) is alive and well here in NYS.
  23. Well, you can start by telling state elected officials to bring 1 billion dollars to the table for a domed stadium in downtown Buffalo. They brought a combined 2.4 billion for both the Jets and Yankees new stadiums. And how about the additional 230 million for the Mets. You may state that the Bills have a Canadian fan base, but the fact remains any business, yes even professional sports, look to increase their individual bottom lines by franchises outside of the targeted market area. Toronto makes complete sense for this given its large populas and geographical location to the origins of the team. As for industry, lets start with cheap power that is created locally combined with a massive reduction in state, county and local workforces and payscales (specifically, medical and pension plans) that would allow reductions in taxes making the area more attractive for both business and residential sectors to grow instead of contracting.
  24. These are all nice points to make about Ralph Wilson, Toronto and the marriage of the two. But what fans here in Buffalo are missing is the larger picture of the organization. Buffalo has lost almost 62% of its overall regional population across 42 years of New York State regulations, high taxes, outsourcing and lack of vision at the policital and business leadership level. This market needs a broader base, Toronto offers that. If the Bills move to Toronto and the team is supported by a city of roughly 4.6 million people as opposed to WNY at roughly 1.6 million, its only a part of the natural course of a business to do so. This isn't rocket science here. No one can blame Ralph nor should they B word about him at all. Without Ralph Wilson, the Buffalo Bills don't exist. Change is inevatible, you want to B word about possibly loosing a sports franchise in the region, go scream at your local and state political leaders. Across the span of that 42 years they have created this mess, not Ralph.
  25. There is no chance he'll be here next year. Hi, I'm Criss, I'm re-tarded. Give it a rest already. He won't be here next season and the Bills have 2 or 3 seasons to build up a contender. Who in the hell is going to sign on to a team building a contender when they are looking for a "WIN NOW" competetor? I just shake my head when people get all excited about signing this FA or waived player or that one, WE ARE IN A REBUILD PEOPLE, and at the start of it. Fans are going to have to be patient for impact players to sign, most likely following next season as we get better. Use your head folks, be reasonable here.
