  1. Direct snap to Tashard Choice the rest of the game.
  2. Don't feel badly for Thigpen, he parlayed a not-horrible season as an unknown in KC into 3 more years in the NFL. He might be a good guy, but he can't play in the NFL.
  3. Can they cut Thigpen before the game is over? Anyone wonder now why they traded for Jackson?
  4. There are always more loves, Bills-brother. BUT, our team does not look good. I may join you in the drinking...
  5. Ugh, Brad Smith is cutting himself tonight. AND, the depth on this team continues to look extremely suspect...
  6. Well, this doesn't completely corroborate my statements, but it is in the same general direction. We, as fans, think that draft choices should succeed at a higher rate than history suggests. http://espn.go.com/blog/afcsouth/post/_/id/22699/good-draft-hit-rates-lower-than-you-think
  7. And Tom Brady was projected to go in like the 6th round or later, oh wait, he's REALLY good. Reality is that every team has a different top 20 on their draft boards. Beyond round one, the differences in draft "boards" is far bigger. I think that the Pats pick a guy in the 2nd or 3rd round every year that the "pundits" project as a late round or FA pick. The difference is that the Pats get the benefit of the doubt and the Bills don't (here). Another reality is, round 2 the odds are about 50% that you'll find an eventual starting player. After round 2 the odds are much worse. Adjust your expectations that all of the top 3 or 4 picks for a team will start or they've made some humongous mistake.
  8. Ah but the defenses also know that. Is it a better strategy to run past the 1st down marker (straight into the teeth of the defense) and *hope* to catch the pass or is it better to stop short of the defense, make the catch and try to elude the defense for the first down? Neither is a winning strategy - the "run past the marker" argument is WAY too simplistic to hold much weight. The best strategy is to have 3rd and short or make first downs within the first two downs (of course, that ain't easy, either)
  9. Guys his age and with his injury history, there is no "long term". The Bills have a guy they like at #2 TE in BLOCKER Lee Smith. Beyond him, there isn't much as a receiver or blocker.
  10. Maybe not this round of cuts, but in the final cuts I think that Zebrie Sanders is in trouble. He looks to be a very good athlete to me, but he seems to be really struggling. I'd have to say that Hairston, Pears and Sam Young are better bets to stick at OT than he is. Perhaps they can re-sign him for the practice squad and try to get some improvement out of him. I don't quite know what the trouble is, but I have read that his strength is lacking - at least that is somewhat correctable.
  11. I know that it is preseason, but how long until the draft with yet another new front office and coaching staff?
  12. This team is crumbling in front of everyone. At least cuts should be easy. About 40 guys volunteered to be cut tonight.
  13. If this team isn't looking for at least 2 QBs after this game, then they don't have a clue. Young is terrible and Thigpen wouldn't start at UB. No chance unless Fitz plays a miracle season, which is unlikely.
  14. I try to remain optimistic after all of these years, but this looks like another 6-10 or 7-9 team. I don't think Fitz is decent NFL starting QB and I am not sure that there is another NFL-caliber backup QB on the roster. They need to be scouring the waiver wire for a decent QB when cuts are made. There is 1 NFL level starting WR on this roster and it is Stevie Johnson. Beyond him, David Nelson is OK, but the remainder shouldn't be in an NFL camp. I *think* maybe Naaman Roosevelt can play in this league as a 4th WR, but I am pretty sure that they will cut him because he doesn't fit their prototype of size at every position. It hurts that the team looks to have gone 0-2010 in the draft. I have been a Spiller supporter up until now, but this guy just isn't a good NFL RB. He does have speed, but for as fast as he is, he is no threat in the passing game and is also fumble-prone. For all of the hype that the defense has received, I am not sure that they are a top 1/2 of the league team. Someone help me find a reason for optimism.
  15. Ugh, are you a scout? Did you consider that after last preseason he was playing with a broken vertabrae? I am sure that you were a professional athlete and fought through injury to make it big. This kind of nonsense is perpetuated by media jerks like Mike Schopp who think that being sarcastic qualifies them as media stars. OK, worst case scenario - a 2nd round pick got hurt and never contributed. That makes the Bills like every other team. For those dying to point out that they could have had Rob Gronkowski, please note that he missed his entire last year in college with a back injury. None of you, nor a good medical staff, could have predicted Troup's injury. Do you not think that the area and regional scouts that were under Modrak were the primary source of the Bills' board that season? What do you think? Do you think that Nix should have bought Mel Kiper's book and drafted out of that?
  16. OK, identify 4 DTs that are available who have even the most REMOTE chance of making this team. I am not saying that Troup will ever contribute to this team, but I AM saying that of the available players at his position right now, he has BY FAR the best chance of contributing to this team in the future. If you were hired for a job and were injured on that job, how would you feel about a public outcry to replace you? I am pretty sure that you would feel differently about that.
  17. With rosters at 90 players league-wide, I think it is pretty safe to say that there is not another "body with potential" to move on with. Now, after final cuts maybe there will be, but I am confident that the Bills will have had to place him on PUP, IR or cut him by then. I know that you are frustrated, but there is absolutely no benefit to the Bills to cut him now.
  18. I understand frustration that a high draft choice hasn't been able to contribute due to injury. However: 1. the injury is not his fault 2. by all accounts I have seen, he has worked hard to recover, be ready and be a good player 3. he has some talent (at least the Bills thought so when they drafted him in round 2) 4. there is no disadvantage to the Bills to put him on PUP or injured reserve except that they have to pay him. If they think he is working hard and could pan out, then I think they should keep him on PUP or IR.
  19. While I am only listening on the radio, Fitz' stats were UGLY. Is it just him or a combination of the undrafted QB and a lack of talent at WRs? I know it is only pre-season, but I also really don't like the lack of runs while the 1s were in. We can hope that things will get better...
  20. Vince Young has had trouble with his emotions and his understanding of schemes. I have not yet heard that he doesn't work hard. JaMarcus Russell showed up WAY overweight and never put in any sort of effort at all. Russell deserves to have failed out very quickly as he did. Young, I think might just be limited in terms of some skills/aptitudes that are essential in the NFL. I can root for a guy that tries and fails, I can boo a guy who doesn't try.
  21. Larry Fitzgerald called out rookie WR Michael Floyd on Twitter charging him with DWI -"Don't Want It". Fitzgerald says that he is out working and Floyd has missed 3 straight days of workouts. Now, I am not saying that Floyd might not become great, but this is the kind of stuff that the pre-draft red flags on Floyd caused some concern about.
  22. Of course, we would all want Brees IF he was free. I assume that most who voted no were considering what the team would have to give up for him.
  23. I used to love it when Mr Adams was on the local sports radio shows leading up to the draft.
  24. Special Teams were respectable last year and were pretty impressive considering how many injuries the team had. Special teams often take a hit when players that they were counting on are injured or are taken off special teams to replace injured starters on offense or defense. Still, I agree that Bobby April is a master special teams coach. DeHaven, though does have a long history of success, too.
  25. I respectfully think that your view is too short-term focused. Sure, he could have traded a boatload of picks to move up and take a potential "franchise" QB, but he felt it was better to build the overall talent on the roster, especially the defense, up first. If he had traded, say, 2 #1s and a #2 pick to move up to grab a highly rated then the Bills would still have a UB-level defense and wouldn't be any more competitive (if they were as competitive as I think they'll be). I am all-in on fixing the D first. I would rather watch my team be in most games because the defense can hold good teams to low scores than the alternative. It is AWFUL watching a defense that has no hope at all of stopping any opponent. That is what we were watching 2 years ago with some improvement last year.
