  1. Rex's fatal flaw is that he had to win his way, as opposed to adapting to the personnel on hand. I think his hubris would have ultimately led him to failure next year or the year after that, even if the team had a better record. The Bills gave him everything he wanted. Signed players in FA that Rex liked. Drafted guys to fit Rex's scheme. Injuries happen to every team. He had a huge staff that the Pegula's paid for. Where is the player development? Where is the adapting the scheme? Where is the organization in his unit? I think the right coaches might have succeeded. Rex has to look in the mirror.
  2. I like Cruz, but I don't think they need a seasoned WR at all in the way that you are describing. The Bills just need Sammy to be healthy enough to play at his best level. Outside of that, I would rather keep Woods or draft a Williams/Davis. Bills should continue with keeping or adding young talent. Now the caveat, for me, is if they let Tyrod walk and they go with a rookie QB. In that case, yeah, a Vet like Cruz could be very helpful.
  3. Are you basing that on physical talent/skill or strictly production? If you're talking physical talent and skill level, Sammy is most definitely elite. If you are talking production, okay, although I would contend when healthy, Sammy has produced at a high level, especially considering the revolving coaching staffs/QB's. Shaq and Ragland were great college players and there is no reason to believe they won't be good pro's. Yes, they drafted them to fit Rex's D, but they can fit other schemes as well. And they are in the early 20s. I would call them long term plays.
  4. I disagree with this thinking in part. I wouldn't mind seeing the Bills trade down and pick up extra picks. But not necessarily with the intention of drafting a QB in 2018. There have been many years when we hear the pundits talk about "Next Year's" QB class will be so much better than the current one. There are no guarantees and players who seem good now might regress, get injured, etc. If Whaley identifies a QB he likes this April he should grab him. I like the trade down scenario for picks for this year's draft if they keep Tyrod. If they don't keep Tyrod then I think 10 becomes a chip that might include a trade for a QB and a pick coming back with him.
  5. He had 38 catches this season. His last two years in Buff he had 36 and 41. Can we stop making Hogan out to be the second coming. He's okay. Not a huge loss in the grand scheme. And not worth, to the Bills, the contract New England gave him.
  6. Yeah, this insecure, nobody likes us mentality is nonsense. Pay they stay, whether in Buffalo, Green Bay or NY or Miami. Very few players live in the city they play in year around anyway. Gilmore is good, but 15 million good? Nah. Nobody is in today's NFL. Rather they spend that coin on a couple other players.
  7. Yeah, he can drain the 49ers of any chances of winning for the next six years.
  8. Agree with your strategy. If they can trade down and pick up an extra 2nd or even a 3rd that would work. Depending on how FA goes, look at WR, S, RT, and a QB to put into the development line with Cardale. If both develop they have an asset to get more picks/players. If Tyrod shows well, we have two assets. But unlike many on the board, I would rather they get a WR in FA if they let Gilmore walk and draft Rueben Foster, if he's available, after a trade down. McDermott could use him to dominate.
  9. QB helps, but the dude had 38 catches this season. He had 41 and 36 with the Bills in his most recent years. He's okay. Was he worth to the Bills what the Patriots paid him? Not at all. Folks around here like to point out that national media think Tyrod is better than he is because he had a very good game in Seattle on Monday night. Well Hogan has caught some nice TD's from Brady on national TV. Still only had 38 catches. I'd still take Woods over him which is what the Bills did.
  10. I was four. I remember my grandfather trying to drop me and my mother off at home before the storm got really bad, but the snow was already too high for him to chance driving down our street off of Kensington Avenue. So, he let us out on the corner and we proceeded to fight the wind to our place in the middle of the block. It took a while to trudge through that snow and battle that wind; me huddled against my mother's leg. It sounded like a runaway train out there and that's all you could do was hear. It was a just about a white out. I distinctly recall the sound of windows rattling. We finally made it to the house and the wife of the family who lived on the first floor of the house made us hot chocolate; found out years later that lady had actually been one of my parents teachers at Lafayette. My Pop got stuck downtown and, I believe, wound up getting out of his office and sleeping in the lobby of the Statler. He was stuck down there for two or three days. Once life came back to normal, me and the other kids in the neighborhood made the bomb snow tunnels, igloos and snowmen. Some good games of hide-and-go-seek, football and sledding went on for quite a while.
  11. But they would also have Irsay. If they had hesitation about the Niners I can't imagine Irsay would make them feel secure. Is Luck worth dealing with Irsay and moving from New England? I don't know...
  12. ^^^^^^^ Gospel truth.
  13. Even McDaniels and Shanhan interviewed for gigs. But then teams requested them. But your take could be right. However Haley's name didn't come up last off-season for HC gigs of I remember correctly. Again, the others did. If your take is right it tells me he doesn't really want to be a HC again because if a coach in playoffs doesn't want to interview before playoffs are over he will likely not get a job.
  14. Could say Olson took a bird in the hand with the Rams bc the Bills were non-committal. I never heard McD or Bills say Olson was an OC candidate.
  15. No other teams interviewed Haley for their HC position. Meanwhile, Olson, who isn't this that and the other, keeps getting OC jobs in spite of what do seem like uninspiring numbers. People on the inside, GMs, President's, Owners, coaches know what's going on. We don't. But there are reasons for everything. Haley obviously damaged his reputation on his last go around and it's nothing to do w/stats.
  16. Can you tell us who the RBs were and who was on the offensive line? A of that does play a part. Poor Shady and TD Mike are going to forget how to run the rock now that Skipper has shown up... 😐
  17. Please tell us the Offensive Courdinator who is available to take the job? There has to be a long list of coaches you and others on this board have that details and outlines the talents of these dozens of coaches, and who is better than others based on word from around the league: players, other coaches, front office personnel, etc. I'd be interested if you or some others can give us this information. It would help all of us truly determine who and who is not a good hire.
  18. I don't think it was a failing so much as bad luck. They lost a lot of safeties to injury. I don't think any team would survive that. That's a pouplar thought on the board, but it is an assumption that's probably not accurate. If he were in that type of precarious position he would not have been cleared to play at all. He was involved in many collisions during the season and got up fine or laid down for a minute, got up and was fine. If he comes back he would have been cleared by doctors to play. From a team standpoint though the prudent thing would be to add depth and a high end talent at the position in the draft.
  19. Any new coach has a lot to prove. But basing it on an OC or QB decision before any games are played won't tell us anything. It will tell us that some of the fans will be fine with it and others will complain about it just because it did not fit their personal desires.
  20. He might change the atmosphere in the room and on the field, and he can curse everyone out if he wants to, but he ultimately can't make any player do anything. Change in play has to come from the player. Change in life has to come from the person. Dareus has been in multiple Pro-Bowls; has been All-Pro. Going back to 4-3 will probably get us back to the Dareus we saw before Rex.
  21. Fair enough. Wawrow and Dunne would be the one's to speak to. They are excellent. But Terry already spoke to Wawrow. Anything Whaley would say would be derivative and you would probably say he was still not being forthright. The guy is an employee. He's not going to speak out of step with the owners or what the owners want.
  22. Much of what you mention is conjecture: "if it's true", " a lot of people believe", etc. Because people believe it does not necessarily make it true or entirely true. You're right that he won't have the interview you're wanting, and he doesn't have to; find a fair journalist like all of the Buffalo News columnists (I thought Bucky and Sully were the only columnists but apparently even the reporters are now acting like columnists over there) who have been so fair up to now with their rumor, innuendo and insults? Rex wanted IK. Whaley brought in IK. Rex wanted Tyrod. Whaley brought in Tyrod. Rex wanted assistant position coaches to the position coach. Whaley and Pegula's signed off on that. Rex got everything he wanted. Why do people think Whaley was trying to undercut him? Rex does not appear to have been his choice, but that does not mean friction between them outside of the normal friction any two men will have in any circumstances. How many mem on this board go back and forth at each other, yet everyone here, I imagine, is a Bills fan and want to see the team win? Whaley being the leak does not make sense either for many reasons. People seem to want or need it to be him for some reason. I would guess it is agents or staff people in the building. Check the secretaries. Check the sales department. Whaley is terrible at the media game (So is Terry), but it won't help the Bills win games if he were. And for all of the media tumult about what the Bills don't share with them, how come none of them tell us what their editors coverage plan is for them at any given time? What stories are they choosing to investigate as opposed to others? What person are they trying to focus on as opposed to another person? Why are they focusing on those stories or people? They ain't going to tell us that. They won' tell you what is discussed in their departmental meetings. Why not? Well, your answer to that is the same answer the Bills would give why they don't divulge certain information.
  23. ^ This post for the win.
  24. The OP said lazy and unmotivated players. You have issue with Watkins' being injured. You have issue with "leadership". Those are separate distinctions. He is not lazy or unmotivated. He works hard. He has been vocal in support of Tyrod or whomever the QB is who is given the reigns by the coaching staff. He supported Orton. He supported EJ. He supported Tyrod. When healthy he plays very well. He's mentioned himself that he has to get past injuries. He has mentioned himself when he can do a better job. That is leadership. If you disagree with that, fine. But in no way does that indicate lazy or unmotivated.
