Why the Bills Won't Trade Up to #2 (or 3 or 4)
purple haze replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Because that capital was acquired with a QB in mind does not mean they will use that capital on just any QB. Say Beane likes Darnold and Allen, but can't get the Giants to deal; and both of those QBs are taken; using that capital to acquire Rosen or Mayfield might be a non-starter for Beane, in spite of what some fans think of those two players, because he does not think they are worth it based on his study of their skills/personality etc. -
Why the Bills Won't Trade Up to #2 (or 3 or 4)

They don't know what they have in Webb. Can't say and draftee is better than him at this point. -
If he can make a good deal he will definitely do that. I'm good in whatever direction he chooses to go. Many ways to climb the mountain. I can take that position b/c I'm not tied to any one QB due to the fact they all have obvious ?'s. The best of the bunch might turn out to be one of the "2nd tier" QBs. Beane traded Watkins and Darby two weeks before the season started. Kept Boldin on the retired list despite rumblings he wanted to play. Shipped Marcel out. Traded Cordy. Let EJ Gaines walk for peanuts. Traded Tyrod after a playoff season. COLD BLOODED. This regime will get their type of guys (on-field and off) and those who are found not to fit, in either respect, will be out the door at the best available opportunity. Beane ain't playing games, and he does not care how many tears the fans shed in the process, and trust, last August I was hotter than fish grease after those trades.

Jim Kelly, 15. Dan Marino, 16. Donovan McNabb, 14. Fitz, 48. Blaine Gabbert, 42. Greg McElroy, 48. ZERO red flags. Does. Not. Matter. if Jackson cannot diagnose plays and defenses THAT would be a problem. Any football related questions on that Wonderlic test?

Top 5 players taken already set
purple haze replied to Ittakestime's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's very possible Darnold will need to sit. He is sloppy with the rock and if he shows that flaw I pre-season he needs to sit. -
No. Complete desperation is giving Gettleman what he wants. Desperation is giving him the offer he can't refuse. Three 1s to go from 12 to 2 is fair enough when asking a team to go from a blue chip talent to a (perceived) lesser talent. Teams picking higher than the Bills are now have given up more draft capital to jump up less spots. Desperation would be offering 12, 22, 53, 65, a 2019 1st and 3rd and a 2020 3rd. I bet Gettleman would not refuse that. But that would be a bad deal. Beane is no fool. Not even for one of these QBs. But a willing trade partner is key is key and why I won't be surprised to see Beane keep all our picks and take the BPA.

I keep seeing people (fans) say Bills are desperate to do a deal. No they are not. some fans are desperate to see them do a deal. If Beane were that desperate he could have already given away all the picks necessary to make a deal long before now; the proverbial offer Gettleman can't refuse. Nothing about Beane's M.O. suggests he operates out of desperation; that dude is cold blooded. if he sat still and picked at 12 I wouldn't be surprised at all.

Rosen or Darnold? Who's your pick?
purple haze replied to ColdFront_USAF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Darnold. But I like Rosen. -
Bills aren't desperate at all. The fans? Yeah.

It wasn't pretty. But they did manage to win the games. I'll take the wins over the style points, although I look forward to the day when they get both. New England on Monday night is a great opportunity. Bills need to step up.

Bills Go 7-9 this Season
purple haze replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We don't know what McCarron is. He's started, what, four games? And it's not like he was throwing down big passing yardage himself. At this point he is not an upgrade until he proves otherwise. I hope he is though because the Bills need to win this season. -
Hell no.

True, in theory. What we won't know, until draft night, is if the 3/4 QB is one the Bills value enough to trade up for at any spot in the top 10. It could be that Beane only values, say, Darnold and Allen for trade up into the top 5 or 10 purposes and doesn't want to burn any picks for the other two no matter how cheap. i don't think Giants will let go of two. I think they want Barkley or Darnold.

The powers that be thought it would be a rough season last year too. 9 wins later...

If the Bills TRADE UP for Josh Allen...
purple haze replied to JaCrispy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. If they draft him they think he's their guy. They did their work on him. At that point we shall see. He ain't my top choice, but that doesn't make it a bad pick. Time will tell. -
If Bills grab a QB early, particularly if it's Rosen, focusing on high end talent around him should take precedence. I wouldn't doubt we see a couple o linemen, a WR and TE.

Will the 3 AFC East teams ALL get new QB's?

4. Jets took Ken O'Brien. -
The McBeane Character Requirements...
purple haze replied to blacklabel's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So he wants a QB who is never accountable, will throw his coaches and teammates under the bus for his mistakes and will be generally ineffective on game day? That would be a wasted draft pick. -
The McBeane Character Requirements...

He said he wants to win Super Bowls. He said he wants to win more than Brady bc he wants to be the best. He did not say he would win "x" amount of SB's or guarantee anything. You don't need to twist the man's words or meaning. -
I mentioned Rudolph bc he was the QB mentioned in the comment I was responding to. I think Jackson and Rudolph are going in 1st. And Rudolph ain't my first, second, third or fourth choice. BUT he does have skills. It's hard to ignore that he feels like a Beane and McD type of guy. A lot of experience, productive, big in stature, a pocket QB. I won't be shocked if they took him; if they can't trade up that is.
