Baldy's Breakdown of Allen vs Panthers
purple haze replied to CNY315's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
True. You don't have to have an elite offensive line to win a lot of games. BUT I'll take one if we can get it. Elite offensive lines are the reason the Buffalo Bills don't have a Super Bowl trophy at OBD. You get an elite o-line, if a team doesn't turn the ball over, they win. -
10 observations Bills v. Panthers

Listening to some folks on the board Zay is the worst WR ever. So why would any other team trade for him? -
They will be better than Falcons or Bucs, but it will be a competitive division.

I hear you. I would state that in Jim Brown's day people said the same thing about his chosen means of protest that people today said about Kap's and other players.
-
That is Jim Brown's opinion. I respect his opinion. But like so many others who fell into that particular line of thinking, the protest was against issues happening that did not reflect the ideals the flag is supposed to represent. And "the way to protest" will always truly mean "don't protest." Because no matter how one chooses to do so, there will always be someone who says, "Not that way." How about things that are protested being addressed in some meaningful way so there is no need for people to do it? There was no violence in the protest. No words spoken during the protest. No flag burned during the protest. The man took a knee. Half the stadium is in the beer line during the anthem. Folks just didn't want to deal with the what was being protested.
-
We already have issues there won't be more. The same ones we've had will just be made more stark. And in terms of sports, see Jim Brown, Muhammad Ali, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, John Carlos, Tommie Smith. Athletes protesting is nothing new, just like simple minded white supremacists acting a fool isn't new.

Rishard Matthews and the modern NFL player
purple haze replied to Mr. WEO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here's the thing: only he knows how the grind of that profession impacted him. It doesn't matter how much money he made or didn't make. People always focus on money in these instances as if that makes everything else bearable; and the people who made the money should be quiet about whatever issue or observation they have because they were fortunate to make so much more than whomever. Money is nice to have, it can do a lot of good, but it ain't everything, nor should it be. Human beings have emotions, issues, etc. Having money doesn't stop that. You also are hearing from someone who just walked away from the profession a week ago. Catch up to him in a few years, when things aren't as present, and he might have things to say you would find more agreeable. How many people quit/leave jobs on a day-to-day basis and, afterwards, complain about the place they left? Thousands do. And probably most of the people complaining had a check that showed up on time every two weeks. Complaints might be about money, but more often it will be about how they were treated by the supervisor, co-workers or the company. Like I said, that's not about money. It's about humanity. -
Bills Training Camp Day 13 (8/11)

Why not? What's being reported is the way he has always been when healthy. -
No one is game planning, and the games don't count. No pressure.

Good Night / Bad Night - Pre-Season Game 1

Murphy is better than Yeldon or Perry. Don't be surprised if he is the 4th RB. Perry could still be kept around for STs in that case. There's always a couple dudes who are just STs. -
An issue for some years is that everything went to the suburbs. That was the case in cities across the country. Then the memo went out that a viable, developed downtown is good for businesses and culture. Buffalo, as usual, stayed stuck in the past, but now seems to have emerged from the spell of suburbia. There are good arguments to be made for keeping the stadium in Orchard Park, but if folks can't see a downtown stadium coming I don't know what to tell them. And complaining about taxes and traffic and usage and no tailgating ain't stopping it. Working on roads and rail, both public transportation and trains will probably be part of stadium construction. Yes, it will cost a lot of money. Yes, tax payers will help fund it. Yes, the Pegula's will kick in. Yes, the NFL will probably kick in. It is what it is. I can see the state paying for infrastructure: roads and rail; the county, Pegula's and NFL and taxpayers covering the stadium. I can also see a plan for a new Sabres arena as part of that construction. When the stadium is built enjoy seeing the Bills play, and hopefully win. Change is life.

Bills Training Camp Day 10 (8/5)
purple haze replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
??? Singletary is quick, great acceleration, very agile. Good speed too. Don't be fooled by testing numbers. Watch him play the games. Games tell the truth. -
Why? How many games will he miss with whatever injury? His talent is good for nothing in street clothes.

Clarification. She is playing a 007 agent. Not James Bond. -
[Name Only Title] Ray-Ray McCloud

Even if he doesn't, if he shows well, he has practice squad eligibility, and they would probably keep him around on that. Again, IF he shows well. -

Oh, I didn't forget Ben, but as much as he runs his mouth, I've never heard him dog Tomlin. But yeah, he's part of the problems. If the QB is a blame shifter you got trouble brewing. And the GM doesn't criticize the QB, but makes him all powerful. As I said, this notion that one grown man can control another one is misguided. -

Under performed how? They haven't been below .500 in his tenure. They've made the playoffs 8 of 12 seasons. They are consistently good. They've been in two Super Bowls. I'm not saying Tomlin is a perfect coach. But this idea he is not a good coach is strange to the say the least. And most of his players do respect him. You're talking about AB and James Harrison, two malcontents. And in Brown a player teammates criticized openly.. And who, Leveon Bell? He had issues with management moreso than Tomlin, and yet another player teammates criticized openly. Meanwhile Tomlin has coached hundreds of players. -

Yes. A professional locker room is not like other locker rooms though. There are other concerns. Could Tomlin just get rid of his problem children for continued problem causing or no? If the answer is no, that's his biggest power. Keeping the peace and discipline sometimes means getting rid of the problem. That's not feasible in the NFL. Big Ben and AB won't change. And the organization will not let the coach cut them. They still weren't really even trying to trade him this spring until they had absolutely no other choice. And this ain't high school or college. Get rid of Ben there isn't another equitable option waiting to take his spot. -

Belicheck has power in the Patriot organization that no other coach has. He can get rid of players and they know it will happen. Any other coach has to deal with owners/management. And Belichick still can't control everyone. A lot of players leave for that reason. -

It's lackadaisical to treat grown men as grown men? Is he really going to cut his backbiting, but HOF caliber QB and selfish, but HOF caliber WR? Would you? That's the only way to truly ensure control. The GM and owner are going to allow that? The GM that referred to the other players as kids the QB was "in charge of"? Most of that team loves Tomlin. In life one grown man does not control another grown man. If you really want to to do something that another person does not want you to do, there is nothing they can truly do to stop you from doing it until after the fact. And that's without a contract being involved.
