Zach Ertz about to be traded? [Edit: or Not]
purple haze replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No need to apologize. You raise good points. I just think Beane, based on his comments, is ready to make a strong move at that position. His assessment of the TE position was spot on. We will see soon enough what he prioritizes. It’s going to be fascinating to see. -

That’s not really addressing the position. They have cheap, young, developing vets now in Knox and Sweeney. They need a guy they can count on. That SB window is open now. To me, you prioritize resources to areas that will support your franchise QB: O-line and TE. The cap should be going back up in 2022, so structure contracts with that in mind. -
Zach Ertz about to be traded? [Edit: or Not]

For a 6th or a 7th, why? The odds of a late round pick making the current Bills roster are long. Ertz would be better, over the next few seasons, i.e. their Super Bowl window, than what the Bills would draft with those picks. When Beane spoke of the TE position it’s obvious he is looking for an upgrade there. Ertz is an upgrade. Not saying Beane will trade for him, but a new TE is coming and that TE won’t be just a guy. They will be proven (Ertz, Kyle Rudolph, Jared Cook) or a young guy with big upside (Jonnu Smih, Hunter Henry, David Njoku). I believe Beane prioritizes this over Milano. And he should. -
Spotrac: freeing up cap space for Bills

They don’t. But their offensive line did when it came to run blocking consistently. -
Gabe Jackson to be released

Like I said, the competition he will get is the type of competition he should be able to beat out. It wouldn’t be a player who is obviously, hands down better. -

I agree. That said, he wasn’t a 2nd round pick. If the Bills don’t bring back Mongo that might be a strong reflection on Boettger. As for Ford, unless he is just butt naked incompetent during camp/pre-season, he will be in the starting lineup. -

They’ll get him competition but the type he should be able beat out. I think they like Ford a lot More than some of The Mafia does. I hear you. Decisions decisions. I’d rather they keep Daryl Williams. Whatever they do the line must improve in the run game. The OL cannot be allowed hold the team back this coming season. -

Or Morse is out, Mongo moves to Center and Jackson and Ford play OG with Boettger the swing IOL. -

Kyle Van Noy cut by MIA, should Bills target him?
purple haze replied to nato7412's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why do you think he won’t cost in the same ballpark as Milano? If they don’t want to pay Milano I can’t see Van Noy either. I think Beane will pay a FA this year but not at LB. I think they’ve chosen to gamble on Edmunds being worth the big second contract as opposed to giving it to Milano during a reduced salary cap. I can see Beane spending, within reason, on DL, OL or offensive playmaker with speed (see Curtis Samuel). -
Deshaun Watson officially requests trade from Houston

All that’s true. Maye can be re-signed. Williams might be included in a deal, but it’s not a certainty. depends on how Texans management views him. That organization has issues. Can’t assume they will do what makes sense. Mosely’s deal was terrible. He hasn’t played. Has the time off given him renewed health and energy or eroded his physical talents? We’ll see. if all three aren’t there, and Jets still get Watson, push that cap money on the offense and try to win shootouts every week. -

They definitely do, but they have the skeleton of a defense. Maye, Mosely and Williams is a strong middle back to front. Offensively, if Watson is there who doesn’t want to play with him and get paid at the same time? He fast track’s their rebuild, which will rely heavily on Free Agents - which can backfire - but if you’re staring into the abyss like they are now I roll with it. -

The Dolphins and the Jets, at least, can stock the Texans with a bounty of high draft picks in the next couple years, which they don’t have now, thanks to Bill O’Brien, and a player or two. The glut of picks in such a short time frame might not be available next season. It’s best Caserio make the move now if he wants a strong and quicker jumpstart to their rebuild. -

Jets are in the NYC Metro area. His off field marketing profile ($$$) will go up exponentially. And, from reports, he likes Robert Saleh. No word on his opinion of Dan Campbell. Jets also have $ to spend on FA and I’d be willing to bet several would come to play with Watson. -

Watson has a no trade clause. He has no reason to okay a trade to the Lions. He can say no and still maintain leverage over Texans’ management based on the fact he can simply not show up until week 10 if at all. -

Don’t count on that. Williams had a good bounce back year and before he got hurt was an All Pro. He’s getting more than one year from some team. The need for OL help is too great. -
the missing link - an Alvin Kamara-type player

A pass rusher would help. I think it comes down to what they decide to address in free agency. Who they keep, who they cut or let walk away. -

I hear you, but Etienne could be there at 30, which is basically a second rounder. At that point it would be hard for any GM to say he’s not one of the best talents left on the board. Because the Bills pick so late in each round those other players might not be available when the Bills pick in rd 2 or 3. They are built to win now so usual operating procedures can be adjusted.
