I don't want to see Lynch traded, but you raise some good points. BUT after saying GB has a poor offensive line you say dealing Lynch to a team like GB would be good and mention getting offensive linemen in return. You don't mean getting offensive linemen from GB do you? If we deal with GB we should focus on getting one of their linebackers.

Why is it when Fitz started the line blocked better and the WR's were suddenly open? That wasn't the case the first two weeks under Trent's direction. It wasn't the case last season when Fitz replaced him and saw better results. Edwards was done. Good luck to him in J-Ville, but he was done in Buffalo for good reason. He had multiple chances to take the reigns and he could not do it. Period. Fitz is not the long term answer either, but he is a gamer who at least competes.

Trent Edwards to have a new team by 4pm tomorrow

Yeah, those five yard passes on the third and twenty will really kill the Bills. LoL -
I am suspicious of open roster spot

Have you seen LJ play this season? Slower than dirt going uphill in a stiff wind. He looked terrible in before the Skins cut him. -
Bulaga doesn't even start for Green Bay and when he plays he plays GUARD. Give us a break.

Not true. All depends on one's definition of how long "not far away" is.

Sullivan is nothing more and nothing less than a WWE "heel." He plays his role and he does it consistently.

Michael Lombardi Quote On Edwards
purple haze replied to jabtot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Can you explain how the move might have been made based on panic rather than analysis? They did not have to release him. They did so because Trent proved he was not a gamer. That's the only way a player can truly be judged. He outperformed the other QB's in the practice setting and in preseason games. But when the live bullets flew he reverted back into a pumpkin. If you recall Jauron's coaching was indicted. The offensive line was indicted. Both were given as reasons why Trent might not have succeeded. So a new regime comes in knowing that information. They give Trent a fresh start. They coach him up. He performs well enough in preseason. Then games come and he is straight terrible. They replace him with Fitz who goes in and shows he's a gamer. Suddenly the line can block a little better; suddenly receivers are wide open down field. There is no reason to put Trent back in after that or even broach the idea. Try to trade him. No takers. Cut him. Sounds like they analyzed the situation perfectly. Fans complain about Edwards then he's cut and people still complain. Give us a break and be glad some dead weight was released. -
Say what you want about this new leadership
purple haze replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's where your logic is off. Mediocre might as well be worst. Either way a team isn't winning enough. Sometimes you have to weed out the junk and you take a step back to begin moving forward. The new regime is doing okay for now. Won't happen overnight so save yourself the angst. -
Fitz did not beat out Trent during the preseason. By all accounts Trent performed better in practice. We all saw him perform better in preseason games. This coaching staff had to see Trent play in real games. That's the only way to truly judge any player. Trent reverted back to form. Fitz is a gamer, just like he showed last season, and he looked better than Trent in a live setting. So Trent is gone. There should be no issue with the coaching staff. Eveybody wants a guarantee, but there are none. Trent could have taken his preseason performance and built on it during the regular season, but he's not a gamer. It's refreshing to see him get the axe once Gailey and Co. found that out for sure.

we cut our losses with the worst player in the NFL
purple haze replied to berndogg's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This makes no sense. Everybody wants to see more production; maybe we will, maybe we won't, but it makes little sense to cut a first round pick after a year and a third. Society has become too much about instant gratification in general. In terms of NFL experience Maybin has accumulated precious little. I would be more concerned about Chris Kelsay getting an extension at this point than Maybin. Maybin has no sacks, Kelsay has no sacks, Torbor and Davis no sacks. Maybin is far from alone with a lack of production on that defense. We need to stop focusing on one guy. They are a bad TEAM. Lot of blame to go around. It's better to let him play and see if he can step it up. Like you said there are no superstars behind him so why not let him play at least? There are no better options. -
This is the BIGGEST UNTRUTH that Bills fans continue to tell themselves. The pocket is behind the interior Oline guys. Watch some of those sacks that are gotten from D-ends and OLB's and see if the QB could step up and avoid them. That's what they are supposed to be able to do. How often do they not step up because there's too much pressure up the middle, then the pressure off the edge has an easier time getting the sack. ALL of these interior guys get their lunch taken every game. They have trouble up the middle just as much as around the ends. Watch the games closely. The Bills can improve everywhere on the line including G and C. I don't know why people insist that Wood, Levitre and Hangartner are somehow miraculously opening up holes that the OT's are messing up. Hangartner gets bullied, pushed around and driven back often. I don't know if he even makes the right calls during the game based on the inability of the line to handle any type of pressure. Levitre gets bossed too. And Wood takes his lumps. He's okay, but far from the stud everybody wants to call him. In the end Levitre might be a good backup and Wood should maybe be playing center. Green needs to have a seat as soon as possible if he can't do any better than he's been doing. Bell is doing okay. Much better than last season. He's making none of the penalties we constantly saw him make last season and he's holding his own against the pass rush. Considering his experience level this is very encouraging. Between him and Wood we might have two keepers in the starting line-up. Meredith can't play LT. He's getting crushed when he steps in for Bell. He needs to go to RT.

You can't be serious. So he'll gladly go to Oakland or Cleveland or whatever team that is sorry enough to be picking first? Come on man. Give yourself a break; you will make yourself sick with all of that negativity.

Belichick on Lynch (and Spiller, Fitz)
purple haze replied to VA Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think what's good about Bellicheck's comments are that folks get to see how players are viewed from a person in the profession vs. what we as fans see. Fred is good, but I have said it before and will say it now Marshawn Lynch has so much more upside it's not even close. -
Serious question - What if the Bills leave town?
purple haze replied to beggar13's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No such thing as a curse. Things are the way you let them be. City could be better if the electorate didn't let the local gov. be ineffectual as it has been for decades. Bills could have won those SB's. Now the Sabres and Hull in the crease was some BS. Love football so if Bills left, and they won't, but IF, then I would find a team with stable ownership and tradition that I knew something about. I would likely go with an old AFL team. -
Randy Cross calls out Lee Evans, Bills WRs
purple haze replied to LGB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Man, you can't be serious. He's not trying because Trent throws to him ONCE in a game? He runs the routes that are called; he doesn't call the plays. BTW, he runs all the routes you say he doesn't run, not that the facts should slow you down. Granted the QB sucks is where you could have stopped your post. Evans can't throw the ball to himself. Last week when he was open and Trent was willing to throw the ball down the field to him Trent missed on one and Evans got interfered with on the other. Go to a game, sit in the stands and watch the WR's run their routes. You will see Evans being double covered most of the times with a safety giving deep help and guess what else you will see: Evans open enough to get a pass thrown to him, but your boy throws the ball five yards from the line of scrimmage to somebody else who is open enough for his weak sauce mentality. I hope they trade Evans because we might actually get something for him. And then you all can see how good Evans is with a real offense. To say he doesn't try is asinine. He should have NEVER resigned with the Bills. Kudos to him for thinking the best and sticking around. -
Colts waive OL Tony Ugoh
purple haze replied to DanInSouthBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why? At some point the young players have to play in order to earn the confidence of the coaches and the fans. It won't nor can it always be a veteran or a "name" that gets on the field. Sometimes the best player is a guy that's already on the team and just needs a chance to show it. -
Nobody can figure out in advance how a player will perform once they get to the NFL. The scouts watch tape, workouts, talk to coaches and trainers about the player and form an opinion. But it's just an educated opinion. Draft is a crap shoot. Tom Brady was supposedly not athletic enough; he went in the 6th, only got on the field due to an injury and will go down as one of the best QB's to play in the NFL. We all know of first round busts at many positions, but especially QB. It is what it is.
-
It helps the Bills if one of their WR's gets injured. Roosevelt can play.

Back in the day an NFL team would play a college all star team. I think they did that up until the late 60's.
